- In this episode, I get a chance to get away for a day with some friends to do the one thing that I possibly love more than camping. We headed north to Baldwin, Michigan where (from my opinion) has the best trail riding in Michigan, for the kind of trails I like.
Every year older I get, I wonder if it's not going to be as enjoyable as the last, but every time I'm reminded this is my favorite place to be.
We arrived shortly after they had just groomed the trails, so in recent years, this was as good of riding conditions as I can ever remember. The fact that it had just rained more than an inch the couple days before, made it even more amazing, because we could ride close together, and not have to worry about just inhaling dust non-stop.
It's not camping, but it's still a blast. Come along with us as we spend the day on the ORV trails!
about 9 years ago we left bull gap and rode west of luzerne . we rode close to 130 miles on mostly 50" trails. i was 68 years old riding a 400 ex. .probably the most wore out i have ever been. but what an awesome time. still riding at 77
That’s quite a haul at 68 on a 400EX. I hope I’ve still got motivation to do it when I’m older. I’d probably have to have something with a better suspension to want to do that! Keep riding!
I have a cabin right off of H9 orv trail in Hale, Michigan. I love the riding up there.
On a BANSHEE!!!! 👍😃😜 HARDCORE!!!
I heard it right away! No mistaking the banshee!
Looking forward to the adventure they are doing at this very moment!
Next video has been leakes
gotta love the guy trying not to be seen taking a piss at 9:48
That may or may not have been intentionally shot and edited into the video for a good laugh.
Hello me and hunter love yo videos
3:04 I hoped he washed his hands! hahahahaha!
I made sure to edit that in! Didn't know if anyone would catch it or not. I was cracking up!
@@WeekendScampers 🤣🤣🤣I laughed my ass off. Woke the dogs up laughing! Great video buddy, Its on my to-do list for next year.
I live in the area you had some lucky rain normally those trails are all sand
Looks like you had a good time! Hope you learned a lesson about always having the necessary and proper recovery gear with you. What your buddy had is a recovery strap, not a tow strap (although it can be used for towing as you did). A tow strap has hooks on the ends and should NEVER be used for recovery, as you can easily kill someone that way. 👍
Yep it’s always a good time. We had all the gear we needed for tools and such, just overlooked the pin and grabbed the recovery strap instead of a tow strap. He’s a first responder so that was just the strap he kept with him.
Great video. Your lucky you didnt meet a jeep whiping around those curves like you did
It sometimes happens. On a quad you can normally get in the ditch pretty quick. I don’t ride as hard as I used to for that reason. We also go on weekdays so the traffic is almost non existent. I think we only passed people 3 or 4X the whole day.
great video! i love the luther baldwin area. where did you guys drive up from?
Northern Indiana. Ft. Wayne area.
What map are you using? Can you send me a picture of the map title? Or post the details so i can find it online. Ive never been there and would like to know as much about the roads and trails before i go. Thanks
We normally stop at Peacock Limited (local ATV dealership near Baldwin) and pick up an updated map each year and get ORV stickers for whoever needs them. That’s where this map came from.
How are the trails this time of year got a new scrambler looking to go the week between Christmas and new years
I realize I'm late to reply, but I didn't have an answer. If you look on the Manistee Forest ORV Club Facebook page, there's normally some halfway updated trail info there on a weekly basis. Someone commented yesterday that the trails were great right now.
Does club 37 still have good food?
Boy I bet it’s been 8-10 years since I’ve been there but last time we were there we just did burgers and it was decent.
Awesome video. Have you tried the Polaris Ride Command app?
Thanks Kevin! I have not. I had a RZR that I sold a couple years ago and wanted to try it in there but never got around to it. On a quad I just haven’t wanted to let my phone get trashed being exposed on the handlebars with all the dust and stuff that’s in the air while riding. Planning a trip to Hatfield McCoy Trails here in the next couple months I think. Will probably try to find something like Ride Command to use on those.
@@WeekendScampers Not knowing where you are is half the fun. Just ride!
Nice video. Is it legal to ride and camp overnight out there?
I honestly don’t know if you can ride at night. I’d assume no, but that’s my personal guess. There are a couple campgrounds out there that I know of. Some have full hookups and some are primitive only that are state owned and you just register right there on site.
Does someone actually groom those trails or were they just smooth from all of the rain?
They groom them on a halfway normal basis depending how much use they get and the weather I would assume plays into it. Of all the times I’ve gone, they’re more maintained than not. They overall do a great job with it.
Must have been some berries in the bush for him to be halfway in it.?? Time at 3:08.
I made sure to edit that part in!
lmao! That's what friends are for.@@WeekendScampers
Nice video looking to take my daughter there. Is it pretty flat and open? That's what she likes. Is there some places to stop gas, food? Thanks
Of all the trails I’ve visited in Michigan these are the widest and most maintained. You could pass two side by sides going opposite directions if you needed to, you’d just need to slow down.
If you stop at Peacock and buy a map it’ll show you all the roads you can take into the towns, but yes if you get off the trails you can go into most towns and get food, fuel, etc.
@@WeekendScampers thanks sounds like the perfect place. Is everything open now? From your videos looks like no big drops or tight curves. How far is the bridge from where you parked. Thanks!!!
@@Kawasaki-qb8hh I’m not sure what the rules for the winter season are. I know there was some discussion about ATV’s vs sleds and who could ride where when, but I think they decided the trails were open to wheeled vehicles all year. If you check out “Manistee Forest ORV Club” on Facebook, that’s the organization that grooms the trails and there’s lots of info over there. I’m just speculating so it’d probably be good to do some digging before you head there if you’re going late in the season.
@@WeekendScampers thanks much appreciated 👍🇺🇸
If it's a groomed snowmobile trail, ORVs are not allowed to be on them between Dec 1 and April 30, if there is snow on the ground and the trails are being groomed.
Why not have gas tanks on the sxs?
Sometimes we do, just depends if we know the area or not. Been going here many years and just haven’t ever needed it. Makes for a more interesting video when you run out too!
I don't recommend carrying gas on a sxs. I have a friend who was carrying a gas can, and somehow, it sprung a leak. He was never able to figure out why. Needless to say, his sxs was engulfed in seconds. He barely made it out in time.
We were so thankful his kids were not riding with him on that trip.
you r not on trail u r on route big difference
Take gas tank with you
Lake CO!!! I guess if you wanna ticket go to Baldwin, you are their source of revenue, p.m. me I’ll show you money all four wheels on the road, 25 mile an hour, not 26.
