El Camino is a mixed bag, I personally liked it a lot. But there are things about it where I understand lot of other people disliking it for. The run time kinda makes the movie over stay it's welcome and the introduction to the welders is a little fucky in execution, but despite those flaws I had fun with it and thought it was a great addition to the Breaking Bad universe. Over all, it's an 8/10 for me which is the average rating I give for a BrBa episode. The two points being knocked off for its ridiculous runtime and the whole thing with the welders. [Spoilers] Plus it was nice to see Jesse legitimately happy again and escape the hell of New Mexico. Even if you hated the movie, you have to admit seeing Jesse smiling at the end of it all despite all the shit he's been put through is so great to witness.

I've only recently watched it but just from initial thoughts, I feel like it would have been better if it were maybe a series. To me at least it seems like Vince is best when he can evolve a plotline over a long time period, like we see in BB and even more BCS. When we see Jesse in El Camino, he's essentially a completely different person. He's gone through months of torture and Vince has to portray that along with all of the other changes in just 2 hours, so I feel it would have benefited from being a 1 season series with each episode being about 50 minutes. Another thing was Badger and Skinny Pete. I liked their inclusion but I would have seriously enjoyed seeing them being even more loyal to Jesse and helping him more. The antagonist is the embodiment of meh and it for me perfectly encapsulates the problems with the film. Series 1-5 was both a cat and mouse game between Walt and Hank but was Walt fucking everyone around him up, on purpose or otherwise. Jesse could have had a great three way battle between himself (PTSD), the DEA still looking for him after what happened with Walt and the Cartels (not sure how they could do that but he is the only one of the named characters at Gus' revenge on the Cartels that is left alive and if they know he was there, I doubt whoever's took over in Don Eladio's place would let that go). Along with that, it felt way too long for the very small amount of story there was. Like I'm sure Vince and Peter could make a brilliantly intense full season's worth of content as the epilogue to BB but this just wasn't it.
The only problem I have with Hank is that when he's recovering and moping he's really boring. Actually that's kinda true for all the characters. When they're moping around and not speaking to each other, they're boring.
I think it makes sense though since Hank doesn’t really understand how to be vulnerable and has been stripped of literally everything that makes Hank Hank. So him being boring was just him trying to find a way to come to terms with his situation and learn how to be a person again after realizing he isn’t that guy in the wake of everything that’s happened.
@@Hammer56Time Oh yeah! Totally agree! All the times any of the characters acted like this it absolutely made sense and should have happened. I think it would have been weird if Hank wasn't miserable around this time, but it doesn't make it any less boring to watch. Completely justified though.
I really like El Camino. It was a nice epilogue to Jesse's story, it was just that those flashbacks with Todd and Jesse imprisonment with those Neo-Nazis do take a bit too long, and don't do much besides getting us to hate Todd more and more and show us Jesse's horrible pradicament during his imprisonment.
Vince Gilligan must be a really huge Star Trek fan. Skinny Pete and Badger are always talking about Star Trek and they even got John de Lancie in the show
Most people don't like El Camino for the lack of action in it I'm pretty sure, which does make it a little unappealing but I think the movie should be seen as just a longer episode from Breaking Bad. It's purpose was more to conclude the series and answer the questions people had from the last episode. It also give some explanations to details in Breaking Bad (Like why Jesse chose Alaska). It felt like a more satisfying conclusion. Jesse finally gets to start fresh in Alaska, as he is I believe the only character that was directly involved in Walters meth empire who came out alive.
Damn, I hate it when I don't like something and people say "Ahh, you just want action. You obviously don't understand the deep emotional complexities of the plot" like no. My least favorite part of el camino was the dumbass gun battle, that's just a forced way for the climax to have an explosion. My favorite parts were the Todd scenes which completely lack action. But the movies was unnecessary, really bad, and boring.
