Father and Son Rescue Toddler From Highland Park Shooting

- Tom Brooks and his son Morgan are the heroes who rescued 2-year-old Aiden McCarthy from the Highland Park shooting. The father-son duo wants the world to know that the toddler's father did everything he could to protect his son. As the panicked crowd scrambled to get away from the shooting, Morgan saw the toddler pinned under his wounded dad, Kevin McCarthy. They were able to pull the boy from under his father by his arms. Although Aiden was covered in his dad's blood, they say he was calm.
His father knew his child was being saved. I cannot imagine how comforting it was for him in his final moments.
It was as if he was saving his last breaths until help arrived.

Mad respect to these men! Letting Kevin know he'd protected his son was probably the most heart-wrenching thing I can imagine. Kevin gave his life for his son. This father is raising a wonderful son. God rest in peace all of the Souls lost that day. That shooter will have his day of reckoning. I am positive of that.
The shooter will definitely pay not only now but on the day he dies. No one escapes the wrath of God whether they believe it or not.

The father is bringing up his son the right way. It was the SON that put the father onto the need and ignored the bullets raining down. Then they were both on it and doing what needed to be done. The kid knows what is important in life, and his father is the one that taught it to him.
Little Aiden McCarthy lost the chance to grow up with wonderful parents. A Father that was his Hero until the end. My prayers go out to all the Mcarthy Family, in-laws and Friends.

A fragile little 2yo, wide eyed, and saying "Dad shot? Mom shot?" and its heart breaking that a 2yo already knows about people being shot. He wont remember this time as he gets older, he will forget his parents voices, their hugs...only what his family will often remind him of, but one thing is certain, he will grow up knowing his father, as a last act of being a protective parent, saved him with his body protecting him.

My heart breaks for that little boy. These two didn't just save that boy, they gave his father some peace in his last moments by letting him know that his death wasn't in vain.
This a whole different story from what a couple said how they found the boy. A LIL confused, but a MAJOR BLESSING THAT THIS BOY WAS FOUND AND NOT PHYSICALLY INJURED

Hi, from how I understand it this father and son were the first to help them along with i believe the father's gf. They got Aiden out from under his dad. The father's gf was really shaken up about it and Aiden was passed off to the couple who then took him in until they could reunite him with family.

The boy is literally numb. He didn't cry but he's definitely traumatized. That "calm" reaction is the numbness reaction some kids get to trauma. He's so frightened he didn't react. Poor boy!

That just breaks my heart. For a lil two year old boy to know that his parents have been shot is incredibly sad. I thank God for these two brave men to see him and save him, and at the same time trying to reassure and comfort his father that everything will be alright.

This is so heart-breaking and angering at the same time. Here's a family, just wanting to enjoy a 4th of July celebration, completely shattered and torn to pieces. This poor little boy will now have to grow up without mom and dad....

As a parent, I literally can only imagine how terrified they must have been trying to protect their little boy. As someone who lost a parent as a small child, it is absolutely crucial that whomever is taking care of little Aiden be upfront, and honestly that his mama and daddy died, and can’t come back. He needs to be in therapy as well. My heart aches for this precious boy.

Unfortunately one ending with the loss of a father but in return that little boy had two angels 👼🏼 that day that came to rescue and save him. May not fully remember the attack but I think he will remember the two people that came saved him from sharing the same fate as his parents.

Poor baby. I know what its like to lose both parents to something that is uncontrollable. I hope he is doing well in his new foster home, and that his foster parents take care of him well. He's already been through enough. And for the father and son, brave enough to go the little boy, thank you. Who knows what could have happened if no one saw him, or simply just ignored him. FOR EVERYONE ASKING: There were TWO families that helped Aiden out after his parents were shot. The first family is this father/son in this video, and the dad's gf, Silva, shortly thereafter. If you read from this article, you will find out what happened and why he was then handed over to the Ring family (husband/wife) and taken to the Ring wife's parents till Aiden was reunited w/his grandparents. Copy and paste from Silva's partial interview with a news reporter:
When I came up from the landing of the stairs, my boyfriend had Aiden in his hands, where he had just got him from under his father who had fallen on him after he was shot," she said.
Silva's boyfriend immediately tried to stop Kevin's bleeding, knowing they couldn't help Irina. She said Irina was unrecognizable because of where she was shot.
That's when the couple handed Aiden off to the Ring family, who scooped up the little boy to take him to safety.
"I'll never forget. I pulled up, and I said, 'this is not our kid. It's not his blood; he's OK. What should we do?' And the cop said, 'we can't be babysitters now; can you take care of him?' We said, 'of course," parade-goer Greg Ring said.
Silva said she knew the boy needed to get check out but recalled she didn't have her wallet or cell phone with her. She said the blood on Aiden wasn't just his parents, that he had cuts too.

I used to support gun rights, but with all the mass shootings and the horrors people endure, my mind has changed. We need to stop young angry men from acquiring guns for this to stop.

I’m so glad they stayed with the father and comforted him and told him that his baby son would be all right during his last moments. That was definitely the right thing to do, and thankfully they were able to do it. God bless this father and son who rescued Aiden.

As a mother of a two year old.. this absolutely breaks my heart. He shielded his son and saved him from being murdered.. I hope his parents knew before they passed that he was alive and safe… I hope that little boy never remembers that day.

Same here! The other story it was a husband who went back out from his hiding spot with his wife to get the child then he took him to police.
It sounds like this father and son were consoling the father after they rescued the child. It's possible that woman from the other story, the one in shock, helped the father and son with the child and then maybe that couple ran into her with the child. Makes sense.

That dad was staying quiet for the son. If he was responsive there's a decent chance he could try and respond vocally, but didn't. Heartbreaking and heroic. I hope he eventually is reminded of who they were and what they did.
I hope the kid will be told the truth as that expert advised. Him knowing his parents died and his father protected him to the last will make a huge impact on him growing up. It might even direct the course of his life.
