Mozart: Vesperae Solennes de Confessore, Complete (K. 339)

  • One of the many sublime works by the titanic Johannes Chrysostomus Wolfgangus Theophilus Mozart. The famous Laudate Dominum is part of this work. This work is of course fully appreciable, and fully appreciated, only by actual Catholics (and thus not by followers of Jorge Bergoglio, stage name “Pope Francis”). Many non-Catholics nevertheless insist that they can fully appreciate, and do indeed fully appreciate, this work, thus displaying their boundless arrogance and ignorance. Would they also claim to be able to fully appreciate Buddhist works of art? Of course not. And they wouldn’t claim this of any other non-Catholic art, even though such art is infinitely inferior to the great Catholic works of art. Yet they claim the capacity to fully appreciate even the greatest Catholic artworks like this. Shameless, stupid modern heathens. Pitiful.

What a comment from the author! I am not a Catholic, not a true Christian, but I am full of admiration for the music and the lyrics. Just as I admire this religious music, I admire, for example, Bach's passions, Gregorian sacred music and so on. Why do you have to be a true Christian before you can appreciate and understand this beautiful music from the greatest musical genius ever?

Yours is the truly astounding kind of comment. As a heathen, you can’t possibly fully appreciate this music. To think that you can is the height of demonic hubris. Notice how many of your fellow heathens here in the comments are also infected by this hubris. Only adherents of the true faith-that is, Catholicism, outside of which there is no salvation-can fully appreciate this music. The rest can appreciate it only in a very limited way.

In the brain, the effect of music is first and foremost the sound, which is both evolutionnary hardwired and culturally learned, but tastes can be acquired so yes, I think anyone can appreciate Buddhist music just as much as actual Buddhists. Now, the meaning of the music carries another kind of importance, that's intellectual rather than purely automatic because of how hardwired for music and sound our brains are, and by being intellectualised, the meaning of the piece might differ but still be as strong as for someone who seeks religion in this piece, because that religious meaning isn't the same for every religious person and because for some people the meaning is as important, just different (often to be linked to personal experiences, or because one might be in awe of the sheer beauty and power this piece conveys etc...).

Restorationism has come to muzzle the Council. The number of "restorative" groups - there are many in the United States, for example - is staggering. An Argentine bishop told me that he had been asked to administer a diocese that had fallen into the hands of these "restorers." They had never accepted the Council. There are ideas, behaviors that come from a restorationism that the Council did not accept after all. The problem is precisely this: that in some contexts the Council has not yet been accepted. It is also true that a Council takes a century to take root. Therefore, we still have forty years left for it to take root! I'm sure people who have faith in Jesus Christ as Saviour and God and believe the scriptures ( the text of this work is Psalms and parts of the New Testament ) and understands music will appreciate this more than any Catholic who never reads Scripture and has little knowledge of music. Jesus told his disciples not to shut up people who speak well of him, Catholicism is one of many Christian traditions and Christianity is about a Person, Jesus Christ and not a denomination you should study scripture and become more enlightened, Jesus Christ doesn't deny anyone who really wants Him as their Messiah

It would be better to leave these controversies alone than Mozart's music, which hopefully has a longer and more honorable fate than Pope Francis, a pope wanted by the modal freemasons to whom Benedict XVI was too inconvenient. The same freemasons to which Mozart belonged, because Mozart was also a Freemason and like all composers had to make a living, writing music for the Catholic Church as well.

Francis isn’t an actual pope. Popes must be Catholic. But as a pertinacious and manifest heretic-indeed the most public heretic in the history of the world-Francis has abundantly proven that he’s not Catholic. Indeed he’s shown that he hates actual Catholicism with the white-hot hatred of a thousand burning suns. Hence, for example, he seeks to completely obliterate the actual (“traditional”) Roman Rite. Therefore, because Francis isn’t actually Catholic (recall that baptism is a necessary but insufficient criterion of actual Catholicism; one must also hold the actual Catholic faith), he can’t possibly be an actual pope. One cannot be the head of a body of which one is not a member.
Recognizing this is a matter of logic, of seeing objective reality, not of legal authority. One need possess no legal authority whatsoever to simply recognize reality. One need not be a traffic judge to recognize a speeder. One need be a traffic judge only to convict the speeder. But the factual reality of speeding was pre-existent to the legal conviction. As for Francis, any future legal judgment will simply be an affirmation of the present reality, which is this: assuming he ever actually held the papacy at all, he’s long since ipso facto fallen from office because of his pertinacious and manifest heresy spitting in our faces daily.
Much has been spoken of the dangers of not following a true pope. It’s time to speak of the dangers of following a false pope. We must, at last, pull our heads out of the sand. We must finally get real, really real, no matter how uncomfortable the demonic really real reality of Francis really is.

If we are to follow your reasoning (and the POV of Norvis Ordo Watch, et. al.) the turning point for the Catholic Church was Vatican II. Have any Popes since then been "real?"
And could anyone raised in the so-called "Catholic Church" since then be a true Catholic?
If so, then there probably aren't many truly Catholic people left to fully appreciate this music.
Well, I suppose the rest of us will just have to get what we can from it.

Whether you think Francis is the pope or not is irrelevant. The person elected by the College of Cardinals is pope. There have been millions throughout history who have not accepted the pope. Their non-acceptance does not make a person pope or not. You’re simply a non-Catholic who does not recognize the person elected by the College of Cardinals as pope. Nothing wrong with that. You’re simply not Catholic on religious grounds. If you say Francis is not pope on legal grounds then you’re outside of the body politic. Francis is recognized by 138 countries as the head of the Vatican City State, who’s head is called the Pope. You may not accept Elizabeth II as Queen of England or Joe Biden as President of the U.S. But they are. Likewise, Francis is Pope of the Vatican City State under international law.
