Janey, I had to giggle when you were talking about how your bubblegum vistas kick-started your love of gardening because same!! And when I say same, I mean YOUR bubble gum vistas started my love of gardening! I have them out front and center in my front flower bed and in my large planters on either side of the front door.
Also, I had to tell you that when I watch your videos I feel like I'm watching a friend. You are such a phenomenal speaker and I just adore everything about your garden! ❤️

Hello again, Janey. I can't get my eyes off your pool. It's 99 degrees here and I have no AC. It looks refreshing.
I'm glad you showed the crepe myrtle tree. I bought a small one on clearance and I've been deliberating planting it. I have the large tree variety and it looks like its going far too big for my small yard. Seeing how large yours is and the shade it produces helped me decide against it. Plus, I hadn't thought about the mess. Thanks!

It's no wonder your neighbors the are happy you guys moved in. I hear all the time about how it takes some yrs for a garden to look full and lovely, well you just now proved them wrong. The front yard is so lush and lovely already, I bet people think it's been there forever. Great job, I'm guessing there wasn't anything down the side, where you planted your cottage garden.?

I love looking at the journey of my garden and enjoy seeing others as well. I have to tell you, I saw photos of your front yard with the swoop of supertunia bubblegum before I ever saw your channel. I grew up in Davis and my folks still live there and are a few neighborhoods away from yours. My dad saw your yard in his bike ride and was so impressed that he took a picture and sent it to me, knowing my gardening habit. When I saw your yard featured on GA and looked up your channel, I was like, hey! I know that yard, lol! My folks have a similar east facing dry shady area along their front yard as your oak tree garden. I’ve told them that they need to take a look at your garden on their next walk for some inspiration. If you see an older couple studying it, it may be them lol.

    • @DigPlantWaterRepeat
      @DigPlantWaterRepeat  2 ปีที่แล้ว

Haha that is amazing Jennifer! I love that! Those bubblegums aren’t quite the show stopper. I’ve had people take impromptu photo shoots in front of them, I then drive up and scare them but I never mind! It’s cute! Tell your parents to say hi I’d love to talk about Davis gardening! 💗

Thank you. I really needed to see your video today and didn't know it. I became aware that I was supposed to watch your video because it kept popping up as a "comparison video for me" every time I left TH-cam and logged back in, at least 5 times today, there ya were. After choosing a video to enjoy your video was right there in the column of "next you should watch"! After the last one I really knew the gig was up! Your video was recommended which is totally bonkers cuz I was watching foot surgery!!
I know our feet get tired working in the garden but still!!! I couldn't make sense of it till I watched and you gave me so much I don't know how to thank you! I have become so discouraged that I'm thinking about cementing in the whole yard and painting it green! It was my Grandpa that always said my Grandma would do it in a heartbeat if she could've. Now I see the sense in it. However, your video of then and now really helped. Thank you!

Good morning. I think ones garden will never be done. You hit the nail on the head as you are continually changing and moving plants to different spots as trees will grow and some things will get trimmed and what not so some area will become shady and other parts will become more sunny. One may think there is too many plants in the garden however there is never too many because there may be plants that are not doing well or not at all then one needs to change out. The whole idea is to make sure there is no dirt showing so that no weeds can grow. You should have done a before and now for the cottage garden. That would have been a huge change. Anyways love the video and seeing what you have done has really inspired me for my 2 gardens. And for that a big thank you. Enjoy the rest of your day with Jason and take care.

Had a very successful garden last year but it was a LOT of work, especially bringing in the soil and mixing it all. I want to expand it this year but take it easy. I've got sandy Florida soil, so drainage isn't a problem. I ask myself why I need to create elevated row? If anything, the soil here is a struggle to keep wet. I used soap as a wetting agent. During the drought I fought tooth and nail to keep everything alive. While I got great harvests last year, I did an area where I just tilled the ground, no amendments, fertilized and planted peanuts. I do have drip irrigation. And I got a great peanut harvest. I'm questioning why I don't do the same thing again with other crops like Thai eggplant and okra and long beans? Thinking of tilling 6 inches, putting down ground cloth, spreading a little sulfur to lower our PH, which is high. Fertilize and plant away. Spray copper on leaves to keep the fungus at bay. Any thoughts?

Before and After/Now photos are always fun to compare. I never think about taking photos of what we have done with our backyard (habitat garden) until we have already made the change.
You have done an amazing job with your garden in a short amount of time, and I am sure the neighbors love having you in their neighborhood.

How encouraging! I a, just in my second year of creating gardens around my home and spaces to relax and enjoy so you know how sparse and blank the small starters are looking. But there is hope that as they grow and getting established they will fill in and look beautiful. I’m so encouraged by seeing your video! Your gardens are just awesome! Hugs and love from Texas!

I looked back the other day of my spring garden tour from last year and laughed at how much I managed to pack in and change in just a year. Love how you referenced it as a journey and not a final destination. Also laughed at your hair reference, I totally got it 😆

Thank you for sharing this video with us. Absolutely inspiring. Wouldn’t it be neat to add a large fountain out in the middle of your grass in the front yard? You could enjoy every time you got in and out of your car. Or working in the yard. Or the neighborhood could enjoy it. And what fun researching for that special fountain.

This gives me so much hope! We moved into a new home in December and there was virtually ZERO shrubs, flowers, trees. Only lawn! Horrid! So I've been working away planting in lots of perennials. Question: how much trimming or cutting back do you have to do on the ivy espalier to keep it from encroaching on your eaves/roof?

I love before and afters/now videos. What an amazing transformation in such a such a short period of time. You truly have great vision and inspire me for my garden. I agree, that house was meant to be for your family (and your garden). I love your videos, you get right to the point, not a long intro, you're not trying to sell us anything and you're so articulate. I can just sit back and enjoy your garden.

Incredible transformation. I enjoy watching. I've had to change out some of my landscaping. Been in our newly built house for almost 10 years. The landscaping that came with the house left a lot to be desired. So most of that got pulled out. And it's been an ever-changing project ever since. This year especially since we are struggling for water here in this California desert. But we can still have our beauty with less water thirsty landscaping(not giving up my small lawn however, it provides cooling in the afternoon/evening) 😊

You've done an awesome job with making a ho-hum landscape into a beautiful, lush garden! I had no idea you had only been working on it for two years. Impressive!
Perhaps the reason the one Limelight hydrangea blooms earlier is that it gets more reflected light from the water in the pool because it's closer to the pool.
