I never watched anything from Logan Paul, only heard of his controversies and fights etc. But he handled that situation extremely well, he legit tried to help the guy recover his pitch like 3 times and gave him feedback when it was clear he didn't prepare anything and what's his next steps should be. And he didn't have to do any of that, could easily say security he has no time for that.

@@TealeafRogers Most fans of influencer's struggle to discern the character and brand from person so the guy walked in there expecting the character but got the business and regardless of anything he did or does, the Pauls have moves and he's been doing it a long time.

I get 385 outreaches a month and I'm not even a content creator... They keep trying to get a hold of me to discuss my car's extended warranty. For real though, great video on this. Logan did nothing wrong. Honestly, the guy is lucky as hell he even listened to him and didn't have security drag him off. He could've totally gotten a job if he came to him with a proper pitch.

Following the great breakdown of the clip, I winced when Devin, a practiced brand expert misattributed that motto to LeBron or Jordan. I had to make sure someone corrected it in the comments. Thanks. Maybe it is a point that Hockey has lost it's market share in the role model category, but damn...that's like a political science major forgetting who said "The only thing to fear is, fear itself."

Devin just wanted to say thank you. About a year an a bit ago I stumbled on your videos about streaming and content. At that time I was averaging between 5-7 people and had no direction. Your videos and streams really changed my outlook on how to be successful. I started to really work on my content and now stream to 30-50+ people, have a successful tiktok as well as so much more. Thank you for all this incredible guidance you give us.

I generally can't stand Logan Paul but it's unquestionable that he not only handled this situation incredibly well, but also gave this guy the best possible chance he could.
I have to assume this kid has never really had to work for anything in his life.
Making 100K at 22 you've either done something incredible or you've been given a reason to think you need to know someone big to get big.
And to be so willing to give up that kind of income they clearly have no understanding of the value of that money.

Lying nearly off the bat will shoot a negative vibe to anyone right away. Not a smartly made move. However as always learned a lot from a nice quick video. Awesome work and I am actually curious as to what Logan thinks of what Devin says in this video. Would be interesting to see his thoughts.

Unfortunately in some areas of the country (due to inflation and the value of the dollar decreasing) 100K might not be a lot after taxes. HOWEVER. Both at his age and in Ohio that is a GOOD income. The people who have this money void though are the people who become uber wealthy.

The point is to go for the win-win scenario: like the example Devin gave - he wanted mentorship, in return he wanted to drive more business to Twitch. Both sides gained something. In comparisson, the guy from the video only wanted to take and provide little to no value.

PLEASE more videos like this! I feel a lot of starter creators don’t know they’re shootings themselves in the foot by thinking “oh just make content” and not understand you need to have some value to those around to make it in this market

As an MBA who’s been through countless successful and unsuccessful interviews, and received offers for every one of my jobs by selling the value I can give to that company, and who’s found mentors in and presented in front of every category of C-Level Executives, I’d like to say that every word of this video is gold.
I’ve recently worked to become a small creator building a business with multiple revenue streams, and the two most important things I’m bringing from my MBA knowledge, both of which Devin mentions in this video are: 1) Identify the value you can provide (in ANYTHING you are putting out into the world). 2) Practice properly communicating that value.

  • @thesalta72

This is the most REAL thing that I've ever seen from Logan. This is the real world side of content creation. When you are looking to work with a creator that is the size of Logan, you're applying for a job at a company just like if you were applying for a corporate level job at Walmart. You gotta be ready to show that CEO what you can do. It's not just enough to shoot your shot. You gotta practice that shot and make sure you're putting your best foot forward.

I think Devin's evaluation of this specific situation is spot on. It really seems like Logan Paul gave this guy several opportunities to present his case, and allowed him to recover from some self inflicted errors, at least twice to make his case.

Love this kind of content. I have so much to learn about navigating this world, but I'm doing my best to try and figure out what sort of value I can provide. I'm able to instantly empathize with people, understanding their backgrounds, knowing what kind of tendencies they have. I know how to analyze data and make predicitons based on behavior. On top of that I have a burning drive to constantly improve whatever it is that I'm working on. For some reason I've never been able to turn this into anything actionable, but I can't give up on myself. I face unique challenges but I don't think my chances at living a full life are over just because I happen to have some difficulties. The most important thing to me is what you said, that absolutely nobody will ever be able to do it for me. I have taken ownership over my lack of value so that I can focus on what I can control rather than wait for some magical fix to my life.
That being said, I am autistic and my unique challenges require me to seek SSI, now with the help of a lawyer. I don't want the rest of my life to be collecting the bare minimum from a permanent disability, however, and I want to build something for myself. I do believe I provide value, but it's difficult for me to know what that value is, but I will keep trying my best to improve and maybe one day I'll be that woman answering all those emails. I swallow my pride and I face my defecits head on. I study and analyze and try to create insights and predictions based on patterns in the data. There's a quote I heard in a webinar about business in the internet age. "The number one skill today is mastering complex systems and creating new value out of information." I don't think there's anything I do better than those specific things, and I just think I need to figure out how to focus it and make it work for me.

    agree with this all tbh.
i think one thing that would help people that are getting approached would be an elevator "response". that way they don't go around sounding shallow cos they're caught at a wrong time, or are unprepared for the complexity/depth of the ask they're required to immediately respond to.

This was very insightful, as someone that can't land a job as a programmer because I thought I deserve a shot and never really put in the work in alone studying because "I'll learn it there, that's what an internship is for!", it was really eye opening, I could see myself on that dude talking to a recruiter.

The interview grind for tech jobs is real. Keep working at it. If you actively track the amount of hours you spend you'll see it's way less than you expect. Every individual I know that has landed a job at a top tech company relatively smoothly put in 100+ hours a month for 6+ months. If you don't do that your chances are practically zero. Just the unfortunate reality.

When Steve Jobs first came back to Apple in the late 90's, employees were afraid to get in the elevator with him for that exact reason Devin gave about the "elevator pitch" Steve would ask "What do you do? and how does that benifit Apple" You had the max of 4 floors to give him an answer, but given the 4th the floor was the executive floor you really only had 3. If you gave him an answer he didn't like, he would fire you on the spot. Rumors I heard from friends, if you were in marketing your were pretty much fired, if you were an engineer you had better odds.

one word i didn't hear this entire video is entitlement, but i think its a one word summary of the situation going on and the mentality. if you cant provide value you cant expect to be given the time of day by someone who values their time, but people do. theres some insane thought process where people assume that because successful people are successful, they can leach some of that success and it will be ok. that is not how the world works and no one owes you anything.
i dislike logan paul for a number of reasons, but im impressed by how he handled this situation. he even gave the guy in the video a chance and asked him the right leading questions, who then proceeded to fumble and drop the ball. im honestly surprised how open logan was to the idea for the guy to give him SOMETHING to work with. and even when logan got nothing, he still proceeded to give the guy direction. props. great video devin.

Great talk. I very much feel this. I get this on a much, much smaller scale than you, Devin, but it always breaks down to "What value do they offer?' and "What's the opportunity cost?" Sometimes they're skilled and I can keep them on my radar for future opportunities. But skilled or not, it almost always ends with me encouraging them to be entrepreneurial. 'Create value and leverage for yourself, and just be persistent. That's when opportunities come.'

This is a great video lots of really useful information. Ngl I have also thought about shooting my shot on a couple of youtubers I know. Obviously I thought of a pitch before hand on what I could offer them so I wasn’t just asking for a general job. I figured I would ask to intern for them and edit there videos. I could provide them value with well edited videos as well as being able to pick there brains on TH-cam and content creation. This video has really shined a great light on these situations go down, how they should be handled, and the realities on truly being able to provide something of tangible value to these influencers so you’re not just coming off as another dude looking for a hand out.

This is great advice. I love videos like this as it helps me rewire some toxic parts of the brain that society instills on us. There definitely is the pressure to become more and more successful, everything needs to happen so fast too. But the most important part is actually the journey through which you become a well rounded person according to YOUR circumstances. It's a gradual process and takes time, some great deal of luck too if your goal is to become extremely successful. It's easy to get discouraged nowadays, but what's even the point of life if not to keep struggling and surviving?

I get asked for shout-outs occasionally. I'm not a big channel, so I don't get that many, but every time I go check out what they've got. More often than not, they only have a few videos, and their quality just isn't that good (poor camera work, poor editing, poor content, etc).
So I've started telling people this, "If you could get the best shout out ever. Let's say a HUGE creator in your niche did a dedicated video shouting out your channel. And it was the perfect shout-out in every way. BUT, it's the last shout-out you will ever get. Would you want it now?"
And there's a pause while they think about it, and the smart ones say, "No, not yet." because now they're thinking about their content and how they don't want that shout-out until their content is fantastic. Which is the point.

@@iwantedjusttom Most people know this quote from The Office ya but he did say it to the media back in the day. Fun fact: He said it in '83 *before* he went on to win 4 Cups with Edmonton.

As someone who has no connection to this kind of industry and is young and going into uni these videos and steams are always so interesting and informative and the advice is great. Love it. :)

One of your best videos. I have watched about 100 of yours so far and this is easily a top 3 of what I have watched in your channel.

I really enjoyed this video. Interestingly enough, the 2 tips mentioned in the video is a similar approach to how got my current position as a business director. Thank you for making helpful content on TH-cam.

You should look into motivational speaking, Devin. Feel like you'd really excel at it

Hey I just wanted to say I have always loved your content and I really appreciate that you've been putting out a lot more stuff lately. Also what I find shocking is that I dislike Logan Paul as a human being but this whole thing, I thought he handled that with some amount of grace. A lot of folks would have just had security drag this dude out of there.

This…. Was spectacular and I hadn’t heard about this prior… but I agree with what you said. In no way am I Logan’s #1 fan but he didn’t do anything wrong. However hearing your perspective really sheds light on the WHY he wasn’t wrong deeper and more meaningful… thanks devin this was one of my faves from you!

that's why i'm always so bothered when people just say "you gotta take the risk!"
yeah, taking risk is one thing. but so is gathering information lol
only a fool goes into risk unprepared. i'm not saying to take a lukewarm risk, especially if you're still young & have a decent background that can protect you from falling too deep.
no, but if you wanna make it, try to find the balance of not investing *all* of your time into "preparing" for the risk while at the same time, gather information beforehand.
it really feels like this guy slipped a million dollar life just because he didn't ask himself "so, if logan is interested, what am i going to say" lol
then again, because he shared this, he might still find an opportunity & others become the wiser, since this is just the perfect anecdote.
PS: Hm, elevator pitch, huh? Guess I gotta work one out. I really like that idea. In fact, it's so simple that I'm bothered by the fact that I haven't done that yet lol

I love that you’ve been putting out content devin…. You’re content is extremely important and valuable…. I’m glad you didn’t see this move from this young guy as idiotic… you understand that it’s important to develop your pitch and provide the most effective use of that time. Thank you my dude!! 🙏🏻

Logan has come such a tremendously long way. Say what you will about him, but for someone who started making random vines to TH-cam to becoming a talked about boxer is crazy. Not to mention how much he evolved since his controversial mess from a few years ago

I have a slightly different take here, I think you need to emphasize that you will make money for the guy you are pitching to and imply that he will lose money by not forming a relationship with you.
