We cannot forget that Iverson was part of the 96 NBA draft, which had some of the youngest and most brash players ever! It's not surprising that Price was upset with Allen, considering that Mark was from the old school NBA and A.I. the literal new school.

This is awesome footage. Think about how Iverson is TODAY, and think about what these guys were saying about him back then. And unlike today, there is no competition narrative or way for guys to correct the media narrative. What actually happened was of course the Bulls were the big dogs and I3 was the new guy, and when he spoke about respect, he didn't mean it anywhere near the way the media blew it up as (like he didn't respect Jordan or the Bulls - they made it LITERAL). Jordan was Iverson's favorite player and since he was in college he couldn't wait to play him.
Anyways, you just get forced that perspective about him back then. But he was such a NICE guy and super respectful. Nobody back then really personified to me a guy trying to do the best he could with what he had than Iverson. But in the league, in the media guys just had this idea about him that wasn't anything close to his character and it was because he was a confident, a little cocky but wanted to be himself. And when you see him even today, he's the same - you can say whatever you want it's your opinion and that's the way he lives.
Another fun fact about Iverson. In 2002-2004, Iverson looked forward to playing in the Olympics. All these other guys thought it was cool to say 'no' to it but he wanted to do it and was PROUD to do it. But you know what? Fans thought it was cooler to cheer AGAINST him and Marbury. Because they were 'thugs'. Two guys that had a lot of charities and would shoot the sh!t with you if you're just as respectful to them as they are to you. Anyways, that's my I3 take. Guys had an idea or bias against him without even knowing him back then and I think that gets missed a LOT today. Sure everyone likes to talk about the 'legend' but in all honesty, Iverson had it ROUGH in the NBA. Even the officials were a-holes to him.

  • @cwvos

You could realistically look at it as the literal "Changing of The Guard"!
The 96 class was brash, extremely confident almost to the point of arrogance! They were young thoroughbreds, ready to feast an stake their claim, making they're mark on the NBA Stage, with Iverson leading the way.
He alone was a severe headache for then Commissioner David Stern.
Everyone won't understand this, but Allen Iverson culturally change the league, an I'm not just talking dress code an personal appeal.
A.I. brought (An1-Rucker Park-Street Ball) in a controlled format, as closest to the league as it would ever get!
He forced a change the league fought against an the league lost.....
And as for Price, he was lethal! I always felt that Price would have lasted an been more durable an less susceptible to injury if he would have hit the weights more working on his entire body.
On court basketball skills an fundamentals an I.Q. was not his problem. Neither was conditioning. MP physically needed to be stronger an needed to be better physically prepared from head to toe...
To me, that was his nemesis, which ultimately led to his injuries.
I often said Steve Kerr was Mark Price 2.0! If Price wouldn't have spent so much time in Cleveland an would have played in one of the bigger markets, he'd have gotten a Chip with someone.
He was just as good an clutch as Reggie Miller! Cleveland just never had squads strong enough to get past the 1st round of the playoffs.
It also didn't help that they always found themselves matched up against MJ an the Bulls in the 1st round either....

    • @mustangmaniac1983
      @mustangmaniac1983 3 ปีที่แล้ว +6

That's not entirely accurate. In 1992 and 1993 Mark Price was on the Cavaliers and they made it to the Eastern Conference Finals in 1992 and the Conference semi-finals in 1993. You're correct that they often ran into the Jordan led Bulls and wound up losing both of those series, but they were some great series and the Cavs would usually give the Bulls a run for their money. Growing up in Chicago and being a Bulls fan I recall a lot of those games and the battles that were waged. I have a lot of respect for the 80's-90's Cavs and I think they were good enough to win a championship, if not for MJ and the Bulls, but they stopped a lot of great teams from becoming champions. Great times back then...

Can't say your wrong 83. My points are all basically from memory because back then I followed any an everything that was happening in the league. Good points, but me also being from Chicago an, an avid Bulls fan late 80's and throughout the 90's, yeah Cleveland may have been on a quest, so to speak, but your not going to tell me New York an Indiana were seriously worried about the Cavs after 93!
Granted, they were on the radar in the early 90's an respectable, but towards the mids neither Indy, Chi-Town or N.Y. looked at them as a real threat/nemesis.
It was almost like to me, Indy an Atl could never come out of the trenches.
From a personal standpoint I blamed Lenny Wilkens for that.
I never particularly liked his coaching style or philosophy.
He won a lot of games an all, but to me he had Williams an Brad Daugherty an Nance an them boyz playin to soft!
They just weren't physical enough to me an to a degree just got bullied, especially by Detroit.
Then again though, they bullied everybody.....
Cleveland did have their moments though, your right...◼

    • @mustangmaniac1983
      @mustangmaniac1983 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

@@cwvos You make some good points and I agree that the Cavs dropped off in the mid 90's because their window to win a championship had closed by then. After the Bulls beat the Pistons in 1991 the Bad Boys were done and the Knicks picked up that bruising style of play, a natural evolution really.
I believe that the battles waged by the Bulls and Pistons made Chicago into the dynasty we all know now. The Bulls had to get over that hump and once they did they never looked back. I don't think they would have been as dominant if they had not gone through those wars.
As for Coach Wilkins, I think that he was a great coach but couldn't get it done when it mattered most. It would have been great to see him win a ring as a coach with Cleveland or Atlanta but it just wasn't meant to be. The only time I was worried about Indiana was in 1998 when they took us to 7 games, but otherwise I never believed they could win it all. For a while I thought Orlando would be the next big power in the East, but MJ and the Bulls put an end to that...
One thing we can agree on 100% is that back then basketball was awesome and must watch. I haven't watched basketball in almost 10 years now, I can't stand what it has become. Just my opinion though and they're like assholes, everybody has em and they all stink...

We CERTAINLY AGREE ON YOUR LAST POINT FOR SURE!
Brother I have so many record Bulls games on 📼 that I've transferred to 📀. Dvd's such as Come Fly With Me, MJ To The Max, a 6 dvd set composed of they're run through the 90's, espn classic games recorded, all kinds of stuff.
83, certain games I still attempt to watch, but man I remember there'd be playoff games I'd leave work early to get home, get comfortable to be ready an see.
NOT TODAY'S GAME THOUGH! I wouldn't waste my time.
No defense, no post play, no dominant bigs! I know exactly what you mean.
They're paying these young guys millions before they've proven anything an with the one an dones, they don't have any fundamentals, no I.Q an a lot of them don't have the drive to want to be successful or great!
They want to run up an down court shooting 30, 35 foot uncongested shots, or either they're going to the basket on occasion for a freebee, as if they're in a layup line or something.
There have been many times that I've been so DISSATISFIED with what's on currently, I just end up shutting the cable off an watching one of the old allstar games I have recorded or Bulls playoff match ups against the Knicks, Pistons, Pacers, or either their Chip series against Portland, Phoenix, Seattle, or Utah....
Real basketball! Not this stuff they play today...
No I'm trying to focus on the Bears, who to me have a legitimate shot at the playoffs if they'd just get rid of Nagy❗❗❗😡◼

Mark Price led teams took the MJ Bulls to a decisive game 5, I'm guessing you never saw Mark Price play one second in his career besides on youtube. Mark Price went head to head with Isiah, Isiah said Price was one of the best in league for three years, you see Price is muthafucking guarding AI 40 feet from the cup AND staying in front of him and CROSSING over AI and pulling up in his grill on the other end. 95% of the guards in the NBA didn't try to get into AI's jock that far from the hoop cause they would get COOKED but look at veteran Price in his shirt. Ty Lue had that kind of quickness AND GUTS to TRY to get up into AI but only on one end, Ty Lue is "good", while PRICE was in his jock defensively and pump faking his ass and dropping jumpers on the other end. I lived in Philly, seen Prime AI and I also saw Prime Mark Price do his thing against the Barkley 76ers. Mark Price was getting his against ANYBODY, Isiah, MJ, Mo Cheeks or AI. Mark Price was an elite player in the league, a whole, whole, whole lot more than "good".
