The History of Haiti: Brothers in misfortune
    by Mikelson Toussaint-Fils
When Nicolas de Ovando became governor of Hispaniola in 1502, he quickly set out to make the colony a profitable asset to the Spanish crown. He crushed the resistance of the Tainos led by chiefs like Anacaona, Guarionex and Cotubanama. He establishes a more structured administration. He introduces an efficient tax system. He founded new cities such as Puerto Plata, Santiago and Concepción de la Vega.
However, there was a significant problem that also had to be solved. The Taino population reduced considerably by slavery, massacres and epidemics could no longer meet the need for the labor required by the economic ambitions of Spain in the colony. The solution was to pull men and women out of Africa to bring them to work by force in the mines and plantations of Hispaniola. How will this traffic start? What will be the relationship between the native Tainos and these new inhabitants of Haiti from Africa? Let's embark on this fourth episode of our series on the History of Haiti.

Dominicans been brainwashed thinking they always there, or decesdant of Tainos that survive all the disease. So they lying to themselves, thinking they are like Puerto ricans, no state hood, Cubans didn't get state hood until 1885 so only things you have in common is Spanish and Miami and Brooklyn. Haiti still 2 peoples, between the mullatoes, and the dark skin which is majority that's why there is problems. Same, all business includingy all Domincans presidents is lighter and soft hair the dark skin Dominicans are body guards, police waiter in restaurant or baseball players. Hispaniola were the whole island for both peoples slaves, and Tainos. St domingue, all belong to the french, Santo domingo way after that to Dominicans. You all didn't take it from the french, or spanish way to powerful so you all tied to Haitians revolution that happen in 1804 that's why you claim independence from the Haiti in 1846 we the same peoples from the past, to now majority dark skin living poor while the lighter complexion get rich.

Haitians are the ones that abolished slavery there. Starting with Toussaint Louverture and then again under Boyer.

Great work but the Haitian is the indigenous people of haiti. If you call them tainos, the tainos are the Haitian. My statement is backed by the Haitian Declaration of Independence

Haitians from modern day Haiti are descendants of Africa. The Tainos are indigenous to the island. What are you talking about? That island does not belong to you!!! And it never will so get over it

How do you translate "indio/indian" to dusky-skinned lol, someone needs some spanish lessons. Christopher colombus and those who got to meet the tainos such as Fray Bartholomew, Gonzolo Oviedo, Bartolome de las Casas, disgusting Michele de Cuneo described them as "indian looking with tan skin and straight hair". Africans slaves only arrived in the island after 1542 which todays black dominicans are descendants of. The current Haitians never met the tainos, they were extinct before the French brought them to the island. The only information the haitians have of the tainos are those that were given by the dominicans/spanish. Its comical how they need to use our sources because they know nothing of them YET try to twist them to fit their narrative. In regards to Haiti declaration of independence, congrats, you just discovered whites aren't the only ones who culturally appropriate. I mean it should have been a given from the name they choose to give their side of the island without having any connection to them
