I totally love this song! You can feel the mixture of pain and hope. It's so bittersweet. Esmeralda's been screwed over and yet she STILL has hope. I wish I could say the same of me, but no. My faith isn't as strong as Esmeralda's.
When I watched the stage recording of this song, the part that got me was when they sang "Let it come someday" together for the first time. Phoebus puts his hand on Esmeralda's face and she hold it and cries. It's wild to see her break down while trying to stay strong. She knows she is going to die and has finally found someone that will understand her and be with her until the end. Both Quasi and Frollo were obsessed with her (Quasi became enamoured with her after she was the first person to genuinely show kindness to him and he saw her as pure and angelic, Frollo is ovb) but Phoebus was the only one to treat her as an equal and love her truly. uggghhhh I love this song.

True, we must fight, but we need to remember it's a never-ending battle. As long as there is humanity, there will always be change, for better or worse. Though it's easy to think in absolutes, it's not realistic. We'll never have complete, everlasting world peace, just as we will never have complete, everlasting worldwide suffering. But we can have peace in one place at a time if we work hard enough. Unfortunately, those who seek to destroy that peace will always return to tear it down, but if we lose hope, sit by and let them do it, then the cycle, which must continue, will not continue. All we can do is our best. We will win, and then we will lose, but when we lose one fight, we can win the next. Such is the nature of the world, till all is dust. .... I am writing this at 3:30 AM... I love this song, and connecting it with Anne Frank doesn't seem inapproriate, but your comment reminds me that there's an excellent, undeer-appreciated Michael Cohen-Enid Futterman musical based on THE DIARY OF ANNE FRANK, called YOURS, ANNE (it premiered Off-Broadway in 1985, and in 1996 was adapted into a song cycle called I AM ANNE FRANK).
What breaks my heart is that this is a prayer of a character in the medieval dark ages, about the 1300's. People were facing disease due to poor living conditions, religious persecution and ethnic cleansing, and starvation due to poverty. If you look around, and I mean REALLY look around, not much has changed, has it?
As an historian, what breaks my heart is that people still think that Medieval era was a dark age. It was not darker than any other era, and, as you say it, every period has its flaws. Please remember that this song does not reflect the accuracy of medieval era: it's a song from a musical, inspired by a movie, inspired by a romantic novel set in 1482 (and not the 1300s, which was a completely different period). We're far from historical accuracy here. I hope this doesn't seem critical. What I mean is that it's perfectly okay to enjoy this musical, as long as one keeps in mind that it is not a documentary about 1482 Paris.

I wonder if this is Alan Menken reflecting on his life and his loss of his close friend (Howard Ashman) to a disease that particularly targeted him because of his sexuality. Like the rights of outcasts (LGBT, black, etc. rights) aren't quite perfect yet but (a) they're better than they were when Ashman was alive and (b) perhaps Menken, though this song, is expressing hope for the future.

While I sympathize with your intentions this song does not really apply to the lost of a building. It is about the suffering of people and the injustices faces by the lesser. The lost of a building that has become more of a tourist destination does not really apply to this song. I enjoyed seeing Notre Dame but this song is about something more than just a building.
All of Palestine, must stand up, to their true enemy-their oppressive, over-bearing, murderous leaders. To make friends, with their neighbors-the Jews, and to stop making jews their enemies, and to stop oppressing women Palestinians.
After reading the book, I don't think Victor Hugo could have cared less about the gypsies. He called the Court of Miracles a hornet's nest and seemed to be under the impression that they were all criminals and child-stealers. In fact he was closer to Disney's characterization of Claude.
@@thegizzardofmars7453 Yeah, nobody can really argue that Hugo had some messed up views. He doesn't even seem to care all that much about the characters he writes - they're just props to illustrate his philosophy. But I do agree with OP, because his whole philosophy is basically that the world sucks, but someday it'll be better. And that hope in a future utopia is what this whole song is about, ya know? :)
I’ve loved this musical but I never found this song more relevant than today. This is the anthem of the outcome of the Philippine Elections… Someday Philippines, someday… someday you’ll be better, even if that means we’ll be gone

@@trueblue6201 It may just be a tourist site to you, but to others it represents so much more than that.
I saw this musical at my high school 2 days ago. I almost cried, especially when Esmeralda started crying and Phoebus was holding her.
mira mesa?
This song sums up how I feel every time I read the news
played this for my sister and it brought her to tears 😢
same
I dedicate this song to the people of Palestine and all the outcast of the world.
End the occupation
All of Palestine, must stand up, to their true enemy-their oppressive, over-bearing, murderous leaders. To make friends, with their neighbors-the Jews, and to stop making jews their enemies, and to stop oppressing women Palestinians.
The harmony at 3:03 I was speechless
The fact that this still applies to everything going on today...
This is one of the most saddest songs that I ever heard!
BooBop1987 but yet in its sadness there's hope !
@@jonathanreed5509 Yeah that is very true!
we did this musical at my school last year and just listening makes me miss it so much 😫
She does an amazing job. I also love Chloe Agnew's version! Any Celtic Woman fans here? :)
Yes.
Very positive lyrics,
Sadness with absolute faith
God...this in 2020 is just.....
its like Victor Hugo himself wrote this song
Stubs 87 if Victor Hugo was alive toady and saw this and Les Miserable, he would've have been very proud!
Pokémasterchaz99 that’s a lovely thought
Pokémasterchaz99 Sadly, i don't think his grandchildren loved the animation of HOND
I never comment on videos but this shatters me so much; I literally sob every time I listen to this song.
Some day....when we are wiser......I hope we can hear the bells of Notre Dame again....
Brings tears to my eyes everytime
Stunning! So applicable to the times we're living in.
(6/2021)
Absolutely beautiful!
Someday the world will be better. But it is up to you to make someday come today.
2020 here I am binge watching the movie's songs
They play this song in the 50th Anniversary Epcot fireworks! It’s so beautiful!
This was in my feed. I needed this today.
@Adam Ostrowski Thank you for uploading this. For uploading all the songs and making a playlist. Im happy it hasn't been taken down.
one of the best musicals ive ever seen. i always come back to this album. the cast, the score, everything is perfect.
What a beautiful song. The waterworks are real.
So glad to see this have a new life in Epcot's Harmonious!
I love how the beginning sounds like the beginning of “God Help the Outcasts” from the movie
I’ve loved this musical but I never found this song more relevant than today. This is the anthem of the outcome of the Philippine Elections…
Someday Philippines, someday… someday you’ll be better, even if that means we’ll be gone
So powerful and painfully truthful
What a beautiful vibrato
I'm sooooooooo excited to go see this done by Utah Festival Opera this summer!!!!!!! I'm sure it will be amazing!!!
Beautiful song. I first heard this from Voctave. I can’t believe I missed this from Hunchback of Notre Dame. I wish everyone will listen to this. 🙏
It is impossible to not cry on this.
Hello depression, my old friend! Was wondering where you were
We need this TODAY. 💜
I'm listening to this song like yo when is this day gonna come cause I'm still waiting ??????
If anyone is wondering the original song is in Spanish and sung by Luis Miguel and the name is “sueña”
This song was glorious from the start. But after Phoebus joins in and they do a duet, it becomes an epic masterpiece worthy of praise.
And don't get me started on the lyrics and message behind it
BRING THIS ON BROADWAY NOW!
My very most favorite Disney song ❤️
This is a song from Disney I wanna see get a lot more attention.
Some day soon, I sure do hope
Here from EPCOT!
They couldn’t have picked a better song to end that show.
Bring on the tissues...❤️ It's like it was written for 2020.
Today marks a tragic day for our beloved Notre Dame fallen to ashes.
This song to me is heartbreaking because it makes me think of 2020 and the news today and it breaks my heart. I wanna write a song just like this.
I used to believe
In the days I was naive
That I'd live to see
A day of justice dawn
And though I will die
Long before that morning comes
I'll die while believing still
It will come when I am gone
Someday
When we are wiser
When the world's older
When we have learned
I pray
Someday we may yet live
To live and let live
Someday
Life will be fairer
[PHOEBUS]
Life will be fairer
[ESMERALDA]
Need will be rarer
[PHOEBUS]
Need will be rarer
[ESMERALDA]
Greed will not pay
[PHOEBUS]
Greed will not pay
[ESMERALDA]
Godspeed
[PHOEBUS]
Godspeed
[ESMERALDA]
This bright millennium
[PHOEBUS]
This bright millennium
[ESMERALDA]
On it's way
[BOTH]
Let it come someday
[PHOEBUS]
When the world's older
When things have changed
[BOTH]
Someday
These dreams will all be real
Till then, we'll
Wish upon the moon
Change will come
[PHOEBUS]
One day
[ESMERALDA]
Someday
[BOTH]
Soon
This is like the song “Vivre” from the French Canadian musical 😍
I like this song & first of all I thought 'why didn't they include this in the Disney version?!' But then I thought about it & maybe it would be too similar to 'God help the outcasts' and they are probably thinking that children would get bored! I still think it's a beautiful song though ❤
God Help the Outcasts actually replaced this song, they decided they wanted a more quieter song for Esmerelda.
This song is the credits song! It's not sung by Esmeralda, though, or a harmonious duet, like this version, so you may not have recognized it.
Katie'sBookCorner It's sung by the a trio group. I forget their name.
One of the bands that sang "Someday" at the end credits of the movie is called All-4-One. The others being Eternal and Celtic Woman.
Judith Barnes This was created after the movie...
This song always makes me think of a good friend. We loved to sing this song. But we had a falling through. And I just really hope it's only temporary
This song remids me so much of Imagine.
Someday is basically Somewhere from West Side Story
