A friend of mine got one of these from a vineyard which we were able to try out when doing a whiskey tasting. Not every one overlapped, but enough that it was fun to explore!

Yeah it really is a fun little activity. You do learn to appreciate some notes and learn new ones as well.

Great video brother. Have eyed this off and love the idea / concept, but haven’t pulled the trigger because whilst it’s an invaluable tool, it’s criminally overpriced.
So much so that I thought Macallan must have released it 😅
Your suggestion of just buying the herbs and aromas (I.e. a lemon) and smell everything is the way to go.
There are also other aroma kits on the market for a fraction of the cost of this.

Hahahaha it wouldn't surprise me if Macallan had a finger in this 😂
'Whilst it’s an invaluable tool, it’s criminally overpriced' sums it all! Thanks for watching mate!

    €300?! holy crap - I'd pay €50 tops.

That kit looks great… much work and effort and Research must have gone into it which I think justifies the price…. But as you say… better to share with a serious group.
      Cheers 🥃

Yeah it is expensive and yes it is useful but at the end of the day it's only worth how much you're willing to pay for it and whether you think you need it.

@@justwhisky Oh yeah massive research went in to it I'm sure and to get the extracts of all the aromas would've been hard work too. It's very useful but like you said John, better to get as a group. Cheers!

Interesting, I didn't know there was an English version of it, but then why keep only the French initial name on the cover ? (for copyright reason I guess?). Anyway Im' seing this box for a long time (as you mentioned it, it is not recent) & didn't decide to buy it, it is expensive & as its a necessarily a chemical recreation, it's a limited experience...Interestingly though, it is not that far from the special kit of 49 flavours (some being placebo ones, mind you) they put in front of you along with a computer to evaluate & train you at specialized hospitals here when you've lost your nosing ability following a virus (not only "cword" mind you) like I did in 2015 (and it did last several months !). They also asking you to try a selection of botanicals every day/week to help & see if it comes back or not. So, yeah indeed, if one can"t afford this, and even if you can, to train your nose, for me nothing replaces a genuine every day experience like you said, everywhere you can (I wrote about this on my website) & to discover new things every year too, travel & discover other countries scents & fruit, etc...Besides, I know Martine Nouet, our biggest whisky writer here (& a fantastic food & whisky pairing expert) along with guys like Serge Valentin, she lives in Islay since more than a decade now & I guess has the best time of her life !

Thank you for your insight Greg, I always appreciate it.
Some placebo ones eh? I would be pissed off if I paid for this set and some of them were empties 😅
Yeah it definitely is a useful piece of equipment but not at this price! Go out, smell different things and try to memorise them is a much better and fun experience :)
