It would have taken longer to make it out of something like wood to make it look good, but either way it's tough to make.

I once did a mock-up of an entire mansion (nowhere near as big as his but still) in hardcore and the ender man were my mortal enemies, then I died to a creeper and lost the world. :(

I'm gonna go ahead and say I NEVER made a dirt house. I usually dig 3 blocks down and close the hole above me if I really want to wait out the night at the start of a new game, or I dig into a cave/wall and do essentially the same thing lol. But I never built a dirt house, I always start with wood straight away and only dig little holes to survive the night.

I do have a suggestion, maybe you can convert a part of your dirt house/dirt mansion into a farm that way you’re never starving constantly. It’ll take ages for the thing to get into max production but once it does get to max production you’re never going hungry again.

It also takes longer to surface because worlds have a build height of 365~ and a depth of -64, caves that are massive usually go down to -50.

This is a great way to eventually upgrade your dirt mansion to other type of mansion so you aren't stressing on completing it right away and can just get the resources in a relaxing rate.

So there you go, the answer is no, Sugar Cane doesn't grow faster on Sand and its growth speed doesn't depend on which kind of block it is on. Now you can go and plant it wherever you prefer.

I've done a Dirt Manor/Mansion before. Nowadays, it doesn't sound too appealing because Endermen can just take blocks out of it on you.
Suggestions: Use different blocks for texture like mycelium, coarse dirt, rooted dirt, podzol and paths. Inside suggestion:
Make hallways inside leading to the rooms. Add farms, automated farms pretty much anything

I think it is unintentionally pretty logical, that sticks restore that much on the shovel. If you have a diamond tip and wooden lever on your shovel. I think the wooden part will be the weakest link and need restoring more than the diamond part. If you use it a lot, a new lever will most definitely help more than redoing the working diamond shoveltip 😇.
