I KNOW RIGHT?! they have (had?) insane lock in general, and it shines so gorgeously bright in certain segments. also, it's so great to see more people revisiting this classic every now and then, hope you're doing well (:
@@jakeharvey3582 Also, do Rasmus and Jakob switch parts sometimes? I think I’ve seen a few videos where Jakob sings lead and Rasmus sings Tenor. I think this is the case on their Hunchback of Notre Dame medley.
Rasmus is such a great lead. A pleasing voice that doesn’t only rely on nasopharyngeal resonance. The Swedes understand more than anyone that you need both ring and color in your voice, and no voice is complete without either.
This is great. I haven't heard an international champ that had such a natural 'singing' sound in a very long time. It took the swedes to make this happen. Will everyone else please do this, too? Bring back unaffected natural vocal production, match vowels, phrase musically, and the rest takes care of itself. :)
Well done guys! We were all waiting for this moment, here it is, at last! I hope this means a long a fruitful career ahead, with lots more tunes coming our way. Bravo again!
I only wish I could have been there to see it live. Alas, finances wouldn't allow that. However, I did spring for the live feed this year, and I can say that I was NOT disappointed in the least. I'll be doing the same next year. Congratulations, Ringmasters.
Awesome! Interesting to note, this is a rare case in which the "hanger" on the tag is the baritone and not the lead or the bass. Incredible arrangement. These guys are ridiculous. I bow at their awesomeness.
I love the song, the arrangement and the beautiful execution by Ringmasters. Singing in their second language with an apparently effortless technique, bringing artistry and emotional impact to a awestruck audience. It was an amazing experience to witness live, and it translates pretty well in this video. They are worthy Champions!
I know, I was there when they performed that, but, seeing as these guys are Swedes, and their enunciation and expression on the right words is bang-on, I think they have a shot at the top spot. There's obviously other great ones, like Platinum's Smilin' Through, and Gotcha!'s If I Had My Way, but these guys did a top job!
I grew up listening to the vintage because my father sang it. It is different - it is for the love of harmony and just real music. Competing had a whole different meaning. The new stuff is great too. I am impressed with all the young people with musical schooling.
I need to find out the progression from 2:52 to :56. It's amazing. Not very barbershoppy but definitely wakes the ear.

Les visages, les mains, les expressions, les attitudes, les voix, la justesse, tout y est! quel bonheur, quel talent, quelle pesfection! vive la musique vocale!
When I was new to barbershop (I still am comparatively lol) I heard you guys do this song and really fell in love with it. I really enjoy hearing you sing it and I am proud that I was there to see you win it in Portland. :D Congratulations guys, you are amazing!
Bravo! sensational, passionate, intoxicating, brilliant, unforgettable, exhilarating, mesmerizing, dreamy, bellissimo, perfection. Thank you for excellence in artistry. My soul has soared because of you. All the best.
I first saw Ringmasters in 09 during the Winter Convention in Pasadena....they did "Love Me" there and almost brought the house down...however, they did the tag much much differently....it would have been so much better if they had done the tag for the Internationals how they originally had done it in 09...and yes, they did "sharp" this version....well, actually, the lead did and the bari, bass and tenor moved with him...which is a sign of a GREAT quartet....
As a former Sweet Adeline, I can definitely say.. the expressions are a huge part in barbershop! :] Would you want to watch a performance without expression? Plus, usually in barbershop, the cornier/cheesier it is = more points. :)
Their tone is absolutely nuts. My favorite part of this is the bari-lead suspension at 3:14- That could not be any more locked . Also, I just want to say that I haven't seen green/purple fringing as bad as :30 since VHS days. :p
this may not be their best performance but they did SHARP the song and they are all extremely talented, if you're jealous have some ice cream instead of crying on youtube
You've also got to realise that the halls/stadia used for contests such as this one are pretty darn big. The camera picks out these expressions from point-blank. In the audience, however, this diminishes with distance. Going over-the-top means you get to project your expression out to the audience.
I wander on as in a dream, My goal a paradise must be, For there an angel waits ‘twould seem, Yet lo’ dear heart, ‘tis only thee. Suns may shine to light my way dear, Wealth be mine for aye dear, Queens may pledge their riches too; Yet the world would still be lonely, With such virtues only, Life to me dear, means just you. [Chorus] I care not for the stars that shine, I dare not hope to e’er be thine, I only know I love you, Love me, and the world is mine.
@ABarbershopbarber....If you mean the progression on 'Thine e'er be thine' I think it's a G to Fm7 which, as it's in Eb makes it a III to IIm7....I think.....whatever, awesome performance and well deserved win. They rang the crap out of it!
There is a very simple solution to anyone that wants to complain. First, go win the international. Then, you have the credentials to say someone else is bad and have it mean something
See these great Artists from November 7. / 13. - 18. and 20. - 25. 2018 at the BAR JEDER VERNUNFT in BERLIN! Diese außergewöhnlichen Künstler sind vom 7. / 13. - 18. und 20. - 25. November 2018 in der BAR JEDER VERNUNFT in BERLIN zu erleben!
Here is the thing. I was at Internationals and I heard them. This is not their best performance. The other 5 songs that they sang were absolutely gorgeous! They definitely earned 1st place with those other five, but I was actually shocked by this performance being where it was. I was hoping it would be better. You should also hear them sing their national anthem live! I can't put into words how awesome that was! Night 2 was their best night. A song from that night should be put up!
Just so you know, this EXACT arrangement was sung in 1994 by the Jokers Wild in the Quarter Final round (the year they won BTW), and in 1996 by the Masters of Harmony (I was singing with them then AND in '99). Also, the word you're looking for is HARMONIC structure - enharmonic means interchangeable, such as Db/C#...Barbershop, for the most part, is progressing, not suffering.
I agree. It is very barbershop in structure, and some of those chords in there, oh my word, I wish my quartet could do as well! A good barbershop piece has ma. 7ths, and a 9th or two in there as well as a few good dimisheds and half-dimisheds for good measure.
There is actually a key change there. The chorus from “I care not...” to the second “suns may shine” is in a different key to the rest of the piece. 2:20 is where it shifts back to the original key. I only have music for this song in a range for women, so in my music, the piece is in A flat major, and the chorus shifts to E flat, then back to A flat where you were wondering about. I don’t know for sure the keys they’re in here, but yes, they do modulate there.
The expressions and the like are also part of enunciation that makes the words understandable. And I still can't shake the feeling that these lyrics are wrong, and the ones that Lunch Break did are the correct ones.
Jackman24601, you should take a look at Crossroads performance of "Lucky Old Sun" from 2009 on this same channel. Video quality is not as good but the performance was one for the ages!
MAN that lock between Rasmus and Emmanuel at 3:15 when you hear Jakob and Martin cut out for just a second is absolutely insane.
I KNOW RIGHT?! they have (had?) insane lock in general, and it shines so gorgeously bright in certain segments.

I need to match the names with faces and also their parts lol. Who is who?
@@GamerStickslol Sure thing! From left to right, we have Emmanuel (baritone), Martin (bass), Rasmus (lead), and Jakob (tenor).

In 50 years I'll still be proud to say I was there for this.
im starting to worry we might not make it that far
That Tenor Bb from 3:31 is insane
It's Jakob for you. One of the few full voice barbershop tenors
OMG how well do these guys voices blend together? the almost sound like one person singing in harmony! fantastic performance! wow!
Well done guys! We were all waiting for this moment, here it is, at last! I hope this means a long a fruitful career ahead, with lots more tunes coming our way. Bravo again!

That bari/lead lock from 3:12-3:17 hits like a freight train!

Earle Johnston My whole body was shimmering on that last chord!!! Right down to the toes and to the top of my head!!

holy moly this was absolutely nuts. something about those Swedish voices that lock so well
Awesome! Interesting to note, this is a rare case in which the "hanger" on the tag is the baritone and not the lead or the bass. Incredible arrangement. These guys are ridiculous. I bow at their awesomeness.
I think the sheet gives the hanger to the lead but Ringmasters chose to put it in the baritone.
My chapter did this as a competition ballad. Absolutely love this tune.
This is possibly the best ballad I've ever heard, the expression and stage-presence is amazing!
This bass looks so classy.

They were so locked in at the end. Brilliant.
The end was incredible! So strong that it felt as though the bass dropped 2 octaves down, my head is banging!
This never gets old!
This is the first time I have heard this quartet and my jaw is on the floor!!
Wow, that whole performance was amazing!!! 2:15 "Wo-o-orld"... a-mazing. It just rang so nice to me.
Makes me think of the 1974 Soundtracks. My favorite quartet of all time. Joe, Ray, Don and Doug!

Lemon Squeezy is another quartet from Sweden. They won the collegiate comp! :-)
Still loving this and singing along with Martin! Eventually l will know every part.
I don't know about the haters, but I thought this was fantastic.
WOW!!! Great job you guys! I almost dare to say that this is one of, if not the best, versions of this song that I've heard. Beautiful job!!!!
They did the tag this way because David Wright (who arranged this song) recommended it. It was a good way to make the "KIB-bers" happy.
Also, they have improved greatly even in the past year!
These guys definitely earned the gold. Well done fellas
This is truly one of the best quartet performances of all time. I wonder if they have Harrington coaching. My guess is YES!
Gave me chills!
They are locked as HELL from 1:48 onward.

That overtone on the word "mine" from about @3:26-3:29 though!
