I was really excited about the orient express game, then i watched a play through. Way too much stuff going on. Everything you said is exactly how I feel about it. My guess is that a whole lot of people are going to be disappointed when they get it and realize how heavy it is. And it will be all over the second hand market.
To me, Orient Express is much more like Arkham/Eldritch Horror on a train than a dungeon crawl/DMD. I saw it in person at GenCon. It’s not as fiddly you appear to think. Your actions as an investigator are quite manageable when taking your actual turn. If there’s a person at the table who can “engineer” the train and the portals, it’s within reason. Somebody gets to play this solo first before doing the teach/play…
I thought Orient Express would be overloaded with mechanics, but it all seems quite thematic and thus easier to grasp. The vampire for one has close to 0 upkeep and he only MIGHT attack every 3-4 turns. Do you shield the passenger's from the horrors outside by closing the curtains at the cost of making the vampire deadliest due to the lack of light? The landscapes are revealed as the train moves, and essences are placed due to the number of possesses passengers. Monsters run along the train, and the faster the train goes, the easier the monsters are "defeated" And the deduction puzzle is fairly easy. To me this is the perfect crisis management coop with a cool theme, and I can work with the fact that players can't sit on opposite sides.
as the main artist of DIVINE RIGHT, I'm disappointed you criticized the rulebook where it is clearly printed on the What's in the Box section "An emailed PDF link (free) to the 300+ page of the complete Third Edition Online Rules for those who want to expand their world further." We spent the last decades working on this. We couldn't print that book as it would make the game too expensive and besides, the bulk of the fans wanted the classic rulebook present. But the advancement to modern game is there. Your review was misleading.
Orient Express seems off for me. I don't like the way friends have to sit in a row to play. Vampire in Cthulhu mythos seems off. Mansion of madness with journeys expansion seem way more theme fitting. i would like a more detailed train non-cardboard, just looks like a kids paper craft toy. Monsters can be hidden behind curtains what!.
Horror on the Orient Express sounds like a return to the fiddliness of Arkham Horror 1st Ed. I'm a sucker for eldritch games, so I'm down with this. I'm all in rockin' the FOMO flag.
Backed aipocalypse, cascadia expac/travel game and under our sun. Im not seeing much coming except for two games im excited for, grimcoven and the other is the one im super wxcited for lands of evershade. Cant wait for that one. Unless something pops up unexpectedly i guess ill just have those two to back this year.
I like the unique gameplay for HotOE and I am looking forward to the campaign mode expansion. I'm curious what that will look like. I think the game looks pretty simple - do some actions, resolve an event, move the train. And unlike Nemesis there are easier difficulty levels.
Hello...Orient Express is simply to expensive: 160$ just for the basic package. The highest is 364$. It's simply to expensive(the kickstarter highest pledge was 229$...now they charge 364$...).
I'm safe from crowdfunding this week. Later this month, I don't know. CMON is launching the GOW game. Then, in late summer, Mythic Battles Isfet and DC Heroes United by Monolith and CMON respectively are supposed to come out.
I really wanted Horror on the Orient Express. However, sooooooo much going on. They should cut about 1/3 of it out. I backed and then after reading the rulebook and watching the video, I decided to cancel. Great review!

Yep, the amount of managing the game requires seems insane. And the actual player decisions/actions seem very underwheming in comparison.
I agree, plus the stretch goals are few and far between
I spend 4-6 hours to learn Frostpunk, then I tried Scenario 1 three times and failed, never went back to it. This game gives me the same vibes

Agree, no idea why he says dungeon crawler in every video, not even remotely close. It's a crisis management game, with some theme aspects
Exactly, someone gets it. It is not a Dungeon Crawl.
Excuse the poor explanation of Awkward Guests and Divine Right! Check them out to get it right/better than I did this week! I apologize!

Cat Packs is the surprise campaign of the week for me. The price is good unless you get sucked into the extra bling and add-ons.

Base game for Orient is 135 msrp and the expansion will be 35. As always, enjoyed the video.

Very!
I loved the MB campaign layout but I can see how it's not for everyone.
I passed on Orient Express. I feel its more of sell on the name "Cthulhu" and not the game itself and after I read the Rulebook I gave it a no go!

Thankfully, I am safe from all of that...
GOW game? Sorry don’t know what this means…

You and I are totally opposites. Can't wait for Horror on the Orient Express and absolutely zero interest in Millennium Blades.

Did robot quest arena base pledge last month think April an easy pass on it all month
