Tavares isn't worth his money anymore, if you are going to single anyone out. He isn't waving anything to be moved. Marner is not going anywhere. It's the cap that caused this financial conundrum. This next season is the no expectation season. The season after that is when serious personnel changes need to be made .

The Leafs are giving it another shot with their current core because they have to. With a new coach, they have a built-in excuse; perhaps Berube can unlock playoff Mitch. John Tavares' contract expires next year, freeing up $11 million in cap space. Mitch Marner will re-sign with a slight raise. They are fully committed to this approach.

Fully committed to a losing approach. They have manufactured excuse after excuse after excuse to cover the Core 4 lack of playoff success. They want to give this 10 years, or 15 or 20 to hope they finally figure it out? It's pathetic and it shows they're not serious about contending. They just want a team that entertains. And the fans let the organization off the hook because they are so enamored with having all this talent putting up gawdy regular season numbers.
Zach Hyman, after being priced out of Toronto, is a lot closer to winning a cup than this Core 4 will ever be. And he's doing what they constantly don't do, and that's elevating his game in the playoffs.

Marner should have been taken 2nd overall in the 2015 draft behind Mcdavid he is going to get it done in the playoffs relax all you leafs flies

@@BrianJenx Marner ins't a bad player, he's just making too much money. You would never think of getting rid of Hyman after the season he's had but he's making peanuts compared to Marner. Even if Holland offered Hyman for Marner straight up, you would be crazy to make the trade. He works out in Edmonton. Marner is more valuable asset than Hyman, if you can believe that. There is a reason Marner makes almost twice as much as Hyman despite the goal differential.
Let's make it make sense. He is not going to dip in performance, the real sticking point this summer going into next summer is how much to give Mitch. Mitch and Co. will not under any circumstance take a pay cut and he isn't going to be traded at his own volition. He will either sign with a pay bump or he will walk for free.

@@BrianJenx"He's going to get it done in the playoffs." Do you hear yourself? It's been 8 years and he hasn't gotten it done. He's not even on the same planet as McDavid. McDavid elevates his game in the playoffs. Draisaitl elevates his game in the playoffs. Marner becomes a ghost in the playoffs, especially in the latter parts of series. He played the full 7 games this year, unlike Marner and Nylander, and they still made more of an impact than he did.

Hyman's growth when he was in Toronto was obvious. He was getting better and better. But he was didn't play on the perimeter, or serve pizzas up to the opposition so he didn't fit the Dubas era mould! And Mason Marchment was too big a body. Matt Martin, too many bodychecks. Kadri, cared too much. The way that team has been mismanaged is awful. Congrats on the success Hyman.
