Overall nice guide. A few things would be worth pointing out for new players, however: 1. You cannot leech using Berserk. (Edited, because I mistakenly thought Lifetap would work). 2. All res and attack rating Grand Charms are more useful than skillers. 3. Any source of cold damage risks shattering an enemy, which prevents you from using Find Item. A Cham’d Arreats is better than a Ravenfrost for this purpose. 4. Find Item is most efficient when playing on players 1, as a successful cast reduces the “nodrop” chance to zero, the same as players 7-8. This allows for faster runs and far more loot. 5. Treachery is only good if your merc doesn’t get dropped while waiting for the proc. Fortitude is far superior for this reason alone. 6. Berserk is most efficient at targeting rare and unique monsters, howling the others away, then single targeting and using Find Item. Whirlwind is a much better skill for general, well-rounded play. I hope this helps new Barb players.

Hey guys, I just discovered that the Act 5 Barb Merc needs to be lvl 87 in order for him to have 136 (Base) Dexterity for him to be able to wield the Lawbringer Runeword in a Phaseblade base without having to exchange the equipment used in this video. These being: Helmet (Andy's Visage) or Armor (Treachery Runeword). Anyways, thanks for the guide and awesome video, Xtimus - it makes me enjoy my Classic IK WW Barb so much more! Cheers
Hey there i know this video is older but i found it and i loved it! I will add that there are a few items that give physical resistance like fade and a few are Vamp gaze, Shaft stop, Shako, CoA, Stormshield. Max physical resistance is capped at 50% on any character (or merc) also! Again, thanks for the video!
This build is one I used to use back in the day for PVP. It's very fun to have max block and very high Damage reduction from Ber'd SS and Enigma. Leap to knock back the enemy (destroys Zons with Tgod on) then 1 tap zerk them. 1 Point WW + Angelics for those pesky smiters/hammerdins.

The Merc can almost always stay with you, once the real action started, it once he got excited after some slashing, unlike other Mercs that stroll leisurely behind while you do all the work in front.

I feel like such a moron. I had a 3 os mage plate that I sold because I didn’t know any better. It was on single player so it doesn’t matter too much but I will have to farm one again. Ugh.
Mistakes bro: 1. Life leech doesn't work on weapons if you're using Beserk because it's magic damage 2. Decrepify's physical reduction doesn't help Beserk because it does magic damage 3. Sanctuary aura on your merc does not buff your damage, it only works for your merc
You said you use arreat's because increased survivability, and you say it has life leech which is good, but berserk can't life leech... so that benefit is irrelevant right?
The only reason I don't like zerker barbs is because there is absolutely no way to steal life, be that Life stolen per hit or Life Tap. however I really like running a Phoenix in the offhand it helps out so much I've found with survivability because of the redemption aura it offers.
Playable yes, enjoyable no. You want efficient aoe capabilities to level, you'd either go for the frenzy or - imho the better choice - a shouter. Shouter with duo spirit performs well enough to get you through nightmare and with some transitional gear, even hell
if this a budget build because its terrible, the only reason you do a ton of damage with out crushing blow is the sanc aura reduces physical resist by 100% on undead and 2/3 of chaos is undead. thats the only reason its doing so well is that sanc aura

Berserk just seems so clunky and is Enigma dependent. I’d recommend budget barbs roll with Frenzy. You just need a single Lo rune for a grief and Lawbringer. I run a max find item frenzy build that rolls through everything. Find item is an amazing skill because it gives you a 75% chance at players 8 loot even on players 1. I’ve horked an Ohm, Vex and Cham so far this ladder among other items. You just have be selective on what you hork and run efficiently.
The REASON why you use PhaseBlade is everything but not because of the repair, thats Bullshit on a high level. The reason why you use PB is the Weapon Speed and Weapon Range
I just made a pitzerker barb with grief etc and came to conclusion this charc is very slow with clearing packs. You just hit the boss and leave the rest of the mobs behind. Are you not just missing out drops like that? Especially with find item. Doing pits is extremely tiresome with hitting carvers one per one. Maybe im spoiled with my foh/smiter paladin. I clear big packs and bosses in seconds.. Killing speed is the most important thing in this game..am i doing a lot of damage with pitzeker? Dont feel like it, 7k holy bolts is faster
One simple error is that you don't have 95% chances to block, you were showing attack rating there (chances to hit), plus max block has always been 75%
Collect low lvl weapons so that your barb always has good weapons for his lvl. It's a little difficult at the end of nightmare since there are not many good options at that level, but if you can reach lvl 59 and equip grief then hell will be a walk in the park.
Useless. Waste of HR's. Give him a Cham'd Vamp gaze for the Life Leech which has MDR and PDR on it too. Fortitude is a lot better choice overall than CoH as well. Same with Treachery because of the IAS alone. Or a Cham'd Arreats Face Slayer Guard or even Demonhorn's Edge Destroyer Helmet which has +3 +3 +3 to all Barb skilltrees & IAS & Life leech and on top of that if you get it in great shape, close to perfect rolls it can get over 600 defense as well)

barbarian does not have good dmg output skills. is good character but not good hitter. most fast barbarian can be with frenzy and ww. i do not play this game for years but just from the point of view how barb is designed you can not make real killed. barb was great when you first started play game like new back then. when no so strong items was out there. barb was able to leap attack and never miss also use any weapon for that purpose. nowadays has all characters easily all barbarian abilities like resist to all elements, good defend, speed, critical strike and so on. this rendered barbarian obsolete in every way. hard punchers are nowadays everybody just speed and amount of hit per sec matter. another note. it can be fun to have fast running barb with run/walking speed maxed like lighting. quickly advancing on his enemies. shouting and yelling them away while breaking bones of bosses. but not matter what it is more nice in my head then in real game. but if you can hoard mobs on one place and use ww to lay them on the ground it can be good addition to build. idk about enigma when barb can leap and run fast maybe to rethink that build a bit to get on it some additional physical or elemental dmg to make it work better. but it will be very expensive anyway.

I swapped out the Andy’s helm for a crown of thieves with 12ll and +25 to dex to be able to use the other gear on my lvl 71 barb
Arreats face also has dex on it

You should put a crescent moon in the other hand for the merc. He will proc static and the weapon does much more physical damage.

An even better way to give potions to the merc is SHIFT+1, 2, 3 or 4, instead of SHIFT+click on the potion. Keyboard shortcuts are always faster.

To be fair, with the plus skills bonus, you can still do decent damage with Concentrate, and a backup in case there are magic immunes.
He didn't mention this but it really helps to use concentrate as well so you can life leech

How do people play with the F keys? I have everything rebound in one small cluster so I am super fast always with all the controls.
I'm an F key player. I don't like having to remap everything and then I wouldn't know what to remap the actual keys for character screen and stuff to.

@@aetheriality It happens rarely. Running Grief, Grief gets the killing blow 9/10 due to the damage disparity between the two weapons.
I don't think phase blade looks cool in d2r, it looks like a piece of plexi glass, to go for the looks I'd make it in berserk blade.

It almost isn't worth going higher than P5. Can i kill stuff P8?, sure, but i get more exp quicker on p5 and the item drops are basically the same.

There is option for giving life stolen per hit for mercenary. Use Chain of Honors its more expensive then treachery but is a lot better.
