Holy Grail Toy Pickup - Kmart Newman Haas Indy Car, Tyco RC 9.6v Turbo Car (1993)

So I have finally been able to find this radio controller car from my childhood!
My original was accidentally run over by my dad's car in 1994, cannot believe that I have managed to get back into the collection!

I know that as of the time I'm commenting this video has been up for several months but I just wanted to say that watching this inspired me to purchase the Domino's Pizza version that I had when I was a kid. Only one point of contention is that Carl Haas who was associated with the Newman/Haas IndyCar team is not the person that is associated with the Haas F1 team, that would be Gene Haas of Haas automation.

I had one of these too. For my 8th bday in '93 i had a Tyco Wild Thing but shortly after it packed up and stopped steering. It went back to toys-r-us and I exchanged it for Nigel Mansell's Texaco Indy car. I loved it. Shame 8 year old me couldn't stop smashing it in to kerbs.... sadly it ended up in the bin. Next RC I had was a Ricochet - my dad picked something more in line with my skill set haha Great video dude - seeing it come out of the box - wow the aerial, the way the car aerial is tucked under all exactly how I remember it. thanks for the trip down memory lane.

I had the Valvoline version of this car. It was surprisingly good, even w/point to point. It's one of the rtr toys I'm looking for to update with modern proportional running gear.

Also, this chassis has an original manufacturing defect. Some of the steering knuckles were cracked by staked axle pins, not all of them were like this, some were only press/interference fitment. If you get one, look for cracks in the black plastic near the center of the front wheels.

That's fantastic Sean, I was also a massive Mansell fan and started watching Indycar when he went over there and discovered how far superior it was to F1, I've watched it ever since and love it
Was incredible when Nigel won the 93 championship at first attempt after winning the F1 title, he really could have won the Indy 500 in 94 too but for bad luck, amazing times
Love the car, amazing you found one new in box, I don't think the Target car is a Penske as they had the classic Marlboro sponsorship at the time the same as McLaren F1
I could be wrong but I think Jimmy Vasser won the title a couple of years later in the Target car and it later went on to sponsor Chip Ganassi cars

That's a bargain pal the nostalgic feeling that must bring is worth way more, should be easy enough to get new batteries even if you get them made
The car just needs a little TLC oh mate that's brilliant swap over the parts and away you go NO WAY what a score brand new very lucky and very well done Sean and your right it is fast lol
