Just to be clear. That "upwards of a billion dollars" in concessions from Canada was announced in December 2024 and is to be spent over the next 5 or 6 years. This was not a concession. Also, more fentanyl and migrants flow north across our shared border than flow south. So yes, Canada needs to do better at securing our border. This was not a concession, it's necessary.

In this new world order, cartels have risen to unprecedented power, each dominating its respective region. China harbors powerful Chinese cartels, Mexico remains controlled by its own drug syndicates, Russia sees its criminal organizations flourish, and South America is overrun with ruthless factions. Even the European Union has succumbed, with drug cartels becoming a dominant force.
The turning point came when the EU and China signed a controversial treaty, effectively legalizing the drug trade. While they framed it as regulation, the reality was a global shift that empowered the cartels, allowing them to operate openly and even take control of their own governments. This agreement sparked worldwide blame and controversy, but the most vocal opposition came from the United States.
Refusing to sign the treaty, the U.S. doubled down on its efforts to block illegal drug trafficking, enforcing strict measures to combat the expanding influence of these criminal empires. As the world descended into chaos, a new war emerged-not just between nations, but between governments and the cartels that now ruled them.

U.S. consumer demand is higher than the demand for U.S. goods on the other side. U.S. consumers are programmed to be rabid consumers before they can walk. In addition, goods from abroad are usually more affordable to U.S. consumers than U.S. goods are to international consumers.
All of the countries involved, especially Canada and China, have worked with the United States to stem the flow of fentanyl into the country. Even though Mexico has made some efforts, it has its _own_ drug trafficking problems that complicate matters.
Indeed, it's easier to reason when you take politics out of the equation. 🙂
