I don't personally want modular building, mostly because I don't want to have to spend hours on just the amenities alone. I think the best thing would be large scale customisation, like a second story to a hotel or restaurant, rather than just changing the roof from planters to seating

I agree. At that point it’s just a different game. That said I do want lots of new customization options. All buildings should be customizable with a system like the amenities but reworked so more people will enjoy it. I don’t think it will have modular building.

bro, i just want to stick things together. im a bad modular builder, but simple decorations aint enough. i want to make a custom brige, or a cool viewing gallery, the game dosent let you. practically no one likes building everything on their own, because thats a big waste of time. if you want modular building, that dosent mean you want to build everything by yourself, but have more freedom to do it

Frontier listens to the entire community. But no, this video will not influence whether JWE3 will have modular building or not, because that decision will have been made looooong before this video and that's not something that can be changed.

    • @Jurassiccanonking
      @Jurassiccanonking 3 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

@@Finn_reif Yes they listen to her but there is nothing she can do at this point to influence something that huge in the game. And it’s not her opinions they listen to. It’s the communities. If Frontier used this channel as a guide for how to do everything we would be getting modular building because it won the poll.

I totally agree. Once you reach that stage, it feels like a whole new game. That being said, I’m really hoping for a ton of new customization features. • @thatoneguy6432
    @thatoneguy6432 3 หลายเดือนก่อน +3

Ok, here's my point: I think we shouldn't have Modular building OR prefabs, but a MIX of the two.
Here's why. In the current state of the game, creativity is always attainable, but you can only select prefabs and your park can only go as far as you imagine it, with having to take several "let's pretend"s along the way. Modular building can be great for if you want to do something different for your Sandbox builds. Want a concrete cliff that oversees youd dinosaur habitat, go for it! It also can let us finally *DISABLE BARRIERS*, giving new life to an already based game. It can enable more creativity into your sandbox parks and will ensure no park will be the same.
Now, what are the downsides? Modular building, as you guessed, is a *LOT* of work. Park's wouldn't be just click and paste anymore, but would go from taking a few days to a few months. It's daunting! And let's touch on not just the harsh work to make something so simple, but also Challenge mode and Campaign. Trust me, if your guests are wanting a single building like a potted plant all over your park, it's gonna get annoying quick.
Solution: Build and Place mode. Go between the two. Let's say you want a simple plaza with a rock wall, but the angle of the terrain isn't steep enough, switch to a modular path, place it around where you want your guests to see from, then build your curved wall! Then, once the foundation is done, click and place rocks all over the wall surface and your done! Now your guests can enjoy a few snacks as they watch some dinosaurs from the top of a cliff.
Also, this can work wonders for not just guests, but dinosaurs too! Make a option for dinosaurs to climb pieces so your spinosaurus can walk off a ramp into a lagoon or have a tree with a wooden floor so your Scorpios Rex can do what it did in the show: climb trees. But, let's say you built a wall, took a long time to do it and then realized "OH NO I LEFT THE SETTING ON!" No need to worry! Dinosaurs can't climb something to steep, so if your dinosaur tries it, it can't make it to the top. Unless, of course, you have a species like Scorpios Rex, which can climb things angles at 90*, then you better act fast!

In games that have modular building, I mostly don't use it. However, there are occasions where I want to make something special that requires modular building in order to do, which is why I want it in Jurassic world evolution 3. Aside from it being a dinosaur game and not an animal game, jurassic World Evolution 1 & 2 were better for me because they weren't overwhelming like planet zoo. You had to put tens or if not hundreds of hours into that game just to complete one zoo/park of your liking. It was extremely time-consuming, too. The only thing that stopped casual players from playing it was their own imagination as it would overhwhelm and take a lot of their time

I think you’re bang on with this Evo tbh and pretty much nailed the representation and explanation of what the community generally wants and would be very satisfied with.
I definitely want lots more customisation and perhaps a few prefabs or very useful building pieces but not particularly full modular building.
I do think the more casual but still creative style is the theme for JWE games too, which I can’t see Frontier changing too drastically.
But I would however, love things like:
Individually placeable letters to make signage
    Different styles of text
    Customisable planters, fountains, buildings
Fully height adjustable, rotatable, tillable foliage and decorations
    Vast decorations
    Vast foliage options
    Vast food/drink/shopping/attraction signage options
Vending machines, small food stalls, ATMS
    Customisable bridges and footpaths
Those music speakers from Planet Zoo!
Imagine different themes of music to match the biomes and also the option for Jurassic Park / World theme playing right near your park’s entrance!!! 😍

I don't really understand the argument against having both modular building and prefabs. Doesn't every single game that currently has modular building also have prefabs too?
I played Planet Zoo a lot, and have messed around with Prehistoric Kingdom just a little bit, but rarely used the modular building and still greatly enjoyed both games. I don't think it's common for people to feel dissatisfied with using the prefabs, since the alternative is that there's just "more prefabs and only prefabs".
I think having modular building + prefabs would be ideal for everyone. I don't really understand the argument against it, it seems to be arguing for fewer and more limited options for people.

I don't understand why people are against it because its something they won't use. Cool, stick to prefabs then. Tbh its the main reason I haven't played JWE2 seeing as Frontier proved they can do it already when they released Planet Zoo, I was bummed to see the same level of customization wasn't available in JWE2 which came out 2 years after PZ.

    • @EvolutionSquare
      @EvolutionSquare  3 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

I think you are misunderstanding parts of the video, because I'm not making an argument against modular and prefabs. Nor am I denying the obvious truth that modular buildings have prefabs - I use a PK prefab in this video as an example. (interesting to note PK doesn't have as many prefab fountains and planters as JWE2, and it doesn't have any skeletal prefabs, but that's beside the point).
The part "why not both?" specifies "both" as modular building *and* "non-modular expansion of the creative tools" (like the alternative I just talked about).
All I'm saying is: if the game has modular building, I will personally always feel like I'm failing at it. I don't get any pride/joy out of it, because I'm using the game at 10% capacity and it's constantly reminding me of a skill I don't have.

@@EvolutionSquare I agree most people would be fine with using the prefabs but I’d say probably 10-20% of the community would consider it lazy and hold themselves to the standard of using the game to its fullest which could create a community divide in play styles and make people who use prefabs feel like they aren’t any good at building when they really just prefer a different play style. It’s shoving 2 games in 1.

Ifeel itd be cool to have a custom decoration creator with parts of modular building. Like a section in the menu where its just a large room, a group of props and pre existing decorations to make preset decor, like maybe a dining area that you can place benches garbage cans and umbrellas all at once without placing them seperately, or even make your own unique decoration, like maybe a car decoration. I feel like modular building would be cool as long as it's completely optional. For instance, you place down an item and click on it, a menu would pop up allowing you to place parts on it where ever you want. You can still play the game like the old game, but the people that want modular building can go crazy with it.

the only modular building I would want is the ability to customize the park buildings like food shops, gift shops, drink shops, and the other quest facilities a little more, like giving us the ability to add more outdoor seating for the food and drink shops, and outdoor displays for the gift shops, where you can change the type of seats, what item is on display or even the locations of the seats and displays would be nice, modular skeletons would be nice, but not give us full customization to it would be preferable, like you can change if the skeleton is standing/flying or laying down, if it's in a scare pose or eating, and only some skeletons are customizable like that is good way to do that, giving us the ability to make completely custom hybrid skeletons will lead to some very weird displays. Just my thoughts on complete modular building.
Edit: You said exactly what I would want, and how it's not exactly modular building and just a more in-depth customization menu for decoration items.

You made a lot of good points in this video. I doubt JWE3 will be anything like Prehistoric Kingdom in regards of gameplay, I think it'll be like what has come before- but better, things we wanted in the previous games but were perhaps too big to implement into it. Some of my builds on JWE2 have taken me days to complete/perfect, I can't imagine trying to do that with a mind-boggling number of choices that modular building would bring. Like you said, what we need is variety and customization. I just want to make nice parks that don't take months to get one area complete. One thing I hope the sequel has is the ability for other players to visit your builds (you could choose to have builds private or open to guests sort of) and other players perhaps seeking inspiration could walk around your parks in the first person mode and be a guest, they could even rate your park with a star rating, and the highest rated parks will be at the top of a list when you browse parks to visit, or you could search directly a park if you know the person's gamertag.

I think JWE3 would benefit from an in between what JWE2 does and Prehistoric Kingdom with having modular rooms that can be combined to create different structures for example, to build the visitor center you would use a circular room and add a restaurant, gift shop, theater tour, and research lab, this would add more variety and management to the game! We could also expand on guests and employees with them being able to walk around inside structures and interact with them, with decor furniture and etc. This could be inspired by games like project hospital, Rim World, The Sims, or Two Point Hospital. Rooms can be assigned types (theater room, lobby, laboratory etc.) that have requirements of objects to be that type. Instead of the static repetitive buildings we have in JWE2 this gives more individuality and uniqueness that people seek with modularity in prehistoric kingdom and planet zoo without the overwhelming dread of building.

I think part of it is that people don't really have much faith that decorations will be super customizable without modular building. Having some customization options for a fountain would be great, but if its just three species and four trees, it would feel a little lame. What if I wanted a Nasutoceratops statue, but the closest thing available on the remade fountain is a Triceratops statue?
(I don't think I'd be able to do anything good with full modular building, but I understand why some people would be completely fine with just downloading a workshop fountain and switching out the statue)

This is the exact building style I'm hoping for in the next game.
Modular building as you described is overwhelming and time consuming. And does not make it overly accessible to get into for the average player.
But given the ability to decorate/customize specific aspects of building and decor sets would solve this I believe, and satisfy the majority of players. So given preset buildings and decor items so that players that don want or care to customize have those prebuilt items ready to drop down and move on. But give the customization and variety other players are seeking to design and customize their parks. Like you mentioned doing this with all aspects of the build catalog will give players seemingly infinite possibilities. I think combine this with having more flexibility or control over being able to intersect items its going to make a lot of players happy. Perhaps a modular building aspect similar to how we build aviaries and lagoons would be interesting so we can expand upon buildings to an extent. Or give us some opportunity to make indoor enclosures and alternatively indoor visitor areas, with modular building in that sense. I think there's lots of cool things the developers could do to make JWE3 worth while and unique.

For me, I don't want modular building like other games have (I'm mostly console, it would be a nightmare for us I think!)
I'd like something similar to Cities Skylines 2 with buildings like the cemetery where you can upgrade the building to add more modules to it, and make them customisable. That way you can upgrade the building how you want, and customise them to make them all unique.
Like a restaurant where you can add additional segments to the main building to make it longer (and thereby able to fit more customers), and those segments could be a mix of indoor and outdoor spaces, play areas for kids (or JWE 3 adds kids to the game)
People like to make the hotels in the game look custom made by placing a big hotel next to a small hotel, etc. They could give a main building, then you can add extensions to it, like a swimming pool or 10, a restaurant section, etc (which could also make buildings multi-use instead of a restaurant being just a restaurant and a drinks place being just drinks, etc)
So a prefab/modular mix sort of thing

I think variability and more options with things like fountains, as your platform with the Edmontosaurus/Mammoth statue being swappable example really shows the potential of a game, even without modular building. Dashing most of the building constraints and clipping would benefit a lot. Between that and more adjustment/modification options would be great.
Perhaps they release essentially modular building tools to build things that can be ported to the game through an in-game workshop, kinda like what's been available in farming simulator. So no modular building within the game, just modular building tools to create some custom stuff that you can add to your game. Time flies in JWE, definitely don't have time for modular building within the game. I feel that crunch in Planet Zoo. I feel this essentially modding/creator tools as a free downloadable program, would allow those modular buildiers to do extra creative stuff, because as a creative person, I occasionally like spending ungodly time just designing/building stuff, then just making it available in the game via in game marketplace to download and add to your park so you don't wait time in game while actively building could combine the best of both worlds.
As a very different example, Star Wars Empire at War isnone of my most favorite games. The developers released mod tools for the game. It's allowed the game to live and thrive over 20 years and is still one of the best strategy games ever. Everything from adding new buildings and units, resources, the easiest changing stats of some units that feel unbalanced or inaccurate to in-universe lore. They also had a map maker as part of the tools, which could be added into the game, via coding. This would just streamline the availability in game vs knowing how to modify the coding to make whatever new units, buildings, etc available (which would restrict it to PC). You could do the modular building designs on a PC, add it to your own personal "market" ( where it could be accessed if you have the game on other platforms other than your PC) or have it available for others on an open market that would be available to all players on all platforms the game is released on. I feel that suffice both sides of the coin. Also could potentially open up custom maps/islands/locations, not just building/decoration designs.

The modular building system is present in Planet Zoo, but I could not build a zoo that would fill the entire map. Because the game slows down as the number of pieces used increases. If the maps are going to be larger in the third game, I think there should be no modular construction because it can cause optimization problems. The lack of modular building in the game can be compensated for with advanced terraforming and more advanced building customizations compared to the second game. They should also be more generous with decorations.

I'd love there to be a happy medium, where buildings are built as they were in JWE2 by default, but there's the option to go into "advanced mode" to move about certain modular elements. That way you could just slap a building down & never have to deal with the modular elements if you wanted, or you could fiddle about with the bits & pieces.
The key is you would be starting backwards from Planet Zoo, with a fully decked-out building that you could add or delete elements from, rather than start with a frame & add to it.

I'd love a nice compromise where decorations can be put anywhere and everything would have a ton of options to edit said building from a menu like the amenities (just dial it up to 100), but I don't know if I'm willing to spend the hundred or so hours I have in both Planet games just to build a park with the modular building system that I'm content with. With the JWE games the stakes feel so much lower. I just sometimes want to scratch the building itch on that game with more decorations and options for walls and buildings. I couldn't agree more. I loved Evolution and still love Evolution 2, but I've tried getting into Planet Coaster, Planet Zoo and Prehistoric Kingdom, and I just can't. I'm not creative enough to come up with my own designs for every single thing, and just using stuff others built on the workshop feels like I'm missing out on the most important element of those games, and makes everything I do make feel awful in comparison, and I'm left more with a feeling of why did I waste my time, rather than one of satisfaction or accomplishment and ultimately I feel like buying those 3 games was a waste of my money.
I'd love for Evolution 3 to have more options in the ways you suggested, let me customise fountains with different plants and statues, let me choose a theme for my shops, and give me tons of prebuilt decorations, but don't just give me a ton of stuff and tell me to build it myself.
Evolution, IMO, especially with it been a part of the Jurassic Franshise, needs to keep a lower barrier of entry, be the "babies first park builder" of the genre, as it allow casual players like myself to continue to have fun building parks without the elements we don't enjoy, and is easier for newcomers to start with and if they enjoy it and want something with more freedom, the other games exist to fill that need.

The big downside to this, of course, is moderation of these things if sharable.

So for example lets use the skeleton building system from PH, instead of having every single bone, instead we could get lets say a Trex ribcage, the top of the skull, bottom jaw, both entire legs, tail and then the arms, and these are already pre built but configurable such as every joint being editable.
