Franz Joseph Strauss est un corniste et compositeur allemand, né à Parkstein en royaume de Bavière le 26 février 1822 et décédé à Munich le 31 mai 1905.
Il est certainement plus connu pour être le père de Richard Strauss, le grand compositeur allemand (à ne pas confondre avec la dynastie des Strauss, compositeurs autrichiens de musique légère). Né à Parkstein, près de Bayreuth, il fut l'un des plus célèbres cornistes de son temps. Il occupa la place de premier cor solo au Festival de Bayreuth et, à ce titre, participa aux premières auditions de tous les opéras de Richard Wagner.
Franz Joseph Strauss is a German horn player and composer, born in Parkstein in the Kingdom of Bavaria on February 26, 1822 and died in Munich on May 31, 1905.
He is certainly best known for being the father of Richard Strauss, the great German composer (not to be confused with the Strauss dynasty, Austrian composers of light music). Born in Parkstein, near Bayreuth, he was one of the most famous horn players of his time. He held the position of principal horn at the Bayreuth Festival and, as such, took part in the premieres of all of Richard Wagner's operas.
