You didn't show the final images so maybe it ended up looking different. But in the video it was showing a "harsh" gradient (versus a smooth gradient) where the vertical and horizontal planes meet, if you pull the front edge of backer color forward a bit so that the vertical and horizontal planes are more gradual in the back corner the image will have a smoother gradient. The down side is this also reduces the effective area you can use for staging your items.
