  • In this video I take my first crack at using ebonizing lacquer and embellishing wax. I used these on a 9-1/2"x3" white ash bowl. I did make some mistakes as you will see but I really like the result once I got the hang of it!
I learned most of this process from Wayne Clasper at Wayne the Woodturner. Check out his channel to learn a ton about various turning and coloring techniques.

Great video and nice music to accompany the film. The embellishing wax sure brings out the grain.

As soon as you started spraying that bowl I was amazed that it suddenly took on the appearance of a rich satin moire fabric! Kudos to you, as well, for sharing your mistakes with your subscribers. Lessons can really be driven home when we see the result of an error.

Once again a lovely project and well presented. I like that you leave the mistakes in, we all make them

Beautiful bowl. Love seeing others make mistakes. Helps me learn that I'm not the only one.

New sub here. Love how you leave in the mistakes. That's how we all learn. The channels that work on a project that takes the minimum amount of time and everything goes perfectly are of little use to me as a complete noob. Channels like this that leave in the "here's what went wrong, why it went wrong, and how to fix it" are the best! I'm looking forward to binge watching your library.

That's a beautiful effect. Some purists don't approve of colour but I think it can enhance the natural beauty of the wood. Thanks for the video.

Nice to see you include things that don’t always work out.

I really like that. Great job.

That was interesting. Thank you for inviting me round. I’ve just made a dozen oak bowls and stained each one using a different Hampshire Sheen intrinsic colour (not color 😂). I think they look nice. 🌞
