Can confirm that memberships work anywhere. I used my Canadian membership in the USA until I had to renew while living in the USA. I then moved to Japan for a year and used my (now) USA membership there. I had to renew my membership while living in Japan. I then used my (now) Japanese membership in the USA and eventually back in Canada, when I returned to my home in native land.

Costco cashier chiming in. I see international cards almost daily (west coast). Lots of Mexican and Canadian cards. But we also get a good amount of Taiwanese, Japanese, and South Korean memberships. One more recent trend i've seen is that i've had like 3-4 British memberships in the past several momths. I love getting to see people from all over the world.

That’s true, I had the executive membership from Mexico and when I came to the us, I could use it, however the 2% in the purchases never was added in the account and when I tried to renew it, they couldn’t find me in the us system, so I had to pay a new one from here. 😢
The real issue is forgetting your card or losing it, can't be replaced and with proper id they will give you a temp one day pass..... But the real issue is the systems are always down and most times they just give you a random card number.. so returns are a real shit..... Also ordering online isn't a simple straight forward transaction.... I'm in Mexico with 10 years of all the issues... This year I finally just paid for a new card here...

That's not how you scan a membership card at the gas station, you're supposed to use the optical scanner unless you're using a costco credit card for both payment and membership.
If anything you ask them there is any issue, they'll fix it. Only thing a international membership cannot allow you to do that i know, is purchasing an item with a warranty clause, you need to have a US membership to have the warranty benefits

I work for costco. You can use a membership from any country. However, depending on the warehouse you are at it may take a supervisor to let transaction go through.

the main issue you would have with this is if its not set up for auto renew or if you dont pay it oyu need to get a new one. another problem is returning products from that country they wouldnt be able to convert the money. sometimes if you have issues on your card like if they block it for example sometimes they wouldnt be able to help you and you would have to remove the block there or see if you can call to get it done over the phone at the membership desk (im a former costco membership employeeeeee)
You just need to ensure the membership is active (not expired or you haven't been removed). You also need the physical card. And you can return items you bought with your card, but you need the receipt as international card purchases are hard to track or the purchase may have been rung under the store's generic number.

You can definitely use a Mexican Costco membership in the US my family does that literally all the time, they renew/get the membership when we go to Mexico in December (it’s cheaper down there) and use it here all the time

It works if you scan the card bar code at the pump instead of inserting it. It works for me, I have a Mexican membership and live in the US for 2 years now
The Costco card does not work at the gas pump because you have to use the scanner to the right of the chip reader. There is no chip like you would find on a credit card. I know this because Hy-Vee gas pumps are set up the same way, and to use your loyalty card, you have to use the scanner.
Any country Costco membership will be accepted and work at any US Costco. At the register just tell the cashier ur card is international and all they have to do before scanning ur card is press the number 7 and then the slash ” / “ button and then scan ur card and boom
My mom used a Mexican one in the US and they didn’t accept it but then all she had to do was go to customer support at the store and they did something so that all the machines will accept it

If you scan a barcode other than a membership card it will say you are an international member.
