    Hello, im a new subscriber, thanks for your videos. i see in the vid a lg silver washer, i was waiting for you to address that. perhaps it used to draw circles on the rock to get a circle to begin with, for guidance? please advise. Thank you, you are so talented.

    • @RockPainting101
      @RockPainting101  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I was going to play around with using it to do 2 circles to help with lines but found it hard to get it flat enough on the rock. You would need a pretty large stone to use it. (At least the size I had). I did end up cutting a template in a later video to creat a similar effect. It does work best with line style mandalas instead on the dot ones. You can see that here if you like! rockpainting101.com/lined-mandala-hack/ and welcome to the channel!! So glad you found us Nancy 😀

    Another easy tool that everyone has is the paper clip. Take a large one and unfold it 90 degrees. The end sticking down is the business end, while the unfolded part makes the handle. You can use smaller clips, but they don't give you much of a handle. This is one of my frequent go-to tools when I need to make small dots.

    • @RockPainting101
      @RockPainting101  4 ปีที่แล้ว

    • @RockPainting101

      Let the stone grab the paint. If you place the tool too far down it can squish it into an oval.

    • @RockPainting101

      This is one technique you just have to try and practice to get it right. I would suggest having a tester stone to practice dotting on a bit so you can get the pressure right. I think that is the hardest part of it all. You just want the rock to grab the paint. You don't need to press it on too hard. Good Luck with it Cathy! Thanks for watching :)

    When I start to paint my rocks for the first time am I able to put on a base coat and then paint? I have purchased paint pens. As well when using the color white when is it best to use it as I have tried it and found that it does not paint a dark white but rather a dull white color.

    • @RockPainting101
      @RockPainting101  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      You do not have to base coat your rocks. It is really just a preference thing or for design purposes. I base coat maybe half of my stones. As far as the white. Make sure to shake it up really well before using. Most paint pens are water-based. Different brands will also give different results.

      Thank You! I ended up touching part of it up with black paint and re-dotting. Since it was live I was moving a bit faster than I think I should. They are SO fun to paint!

      You can really get started with one color and use something from around your house for dotting!

      There are lots of things. I have used erasers. An unused one makes a good larger dot. You can sharpen the eraser end to make it a bit smaller for medium and so on. I talk about it a bit more here if you want to see! rockpainting101.com/dot-painting-beginners/

    I can't believe you paid $9 for your dotting tools! I bought mine from eBay a few years ago, the wood ones you have and the entire set cost me less than a dollar! I saw them advertised as tools for fingernail artists and knew they would be great to keep on hand and they certainly have been. There is just no need to pay all that money!
