Linda Perry (lead singer) is not only an amazing artist, she's an amazing songwriter, producer, mentor, all around good person and an iconic force to be reckoned with in the music industry. She's written and/or produced for artists like Christina Aguilera, Gwen Stefani, Pink, Adele, Alicia Keys, Courtney Love and James Blunt just to name a few, and she's started two successful record labels. She's a longtime trusted voice and activist for woman's rights and all things LGBTQ related and she came out as a lesbian in the early 90s, despite it being a time when some might consider it a poor career move. She was married to and has one child with Sara Gilbert from The Rosanne Show and Big Bang Theory, for quite a while, unfortunately they split up a couple years ago. My adult daughter looks up to her immensely and through my daughter I have come to greatly admire Linda and all she's done for women in music and for artists in general, she's always made sure the artists come before the industry, and that's the way it should be. Great reaction as usual!! ✌💚
Filmed in the bands' hometown of San Francisco, CA. The video's low budget forced the group to shoot in a friend's living room. The band and crew were in constant fear of being thrown out of their exterior locations, as they couldn't afford filming permits. Half the budget was spent flying the crew up from Los Angeles. 4 Non Blondes formed in 1989, they signed a record contract after only one year. The band took their name from a band member's observation: "Look, we're 4 non blondes". Linda Perry was the lead singer and this was her first band. Combined number of bands the other 3 non blondes had played in at the time: 41 Linda brought 15 different hats to the video shoot. Linda says she called the song "What''s Up" Because it is her favorite expression, and "What's Going On" was already taken. This album sold 8.000 copies in it's first year, 5 million it's second. The director wanted the band to come up with things to do that showed their personalities, but only Linda had any ideas. She wanted to be naked in a bathtub covered with gumballs. But the record company said: "what's up with that?"
lol given the filming challenges it was absolutely the bestest darn music video i have seen in a long time. so much expressions! the emotion and fun they were having doing it.... as rebels! tryin it on basically. and just how well it came out afterwards 1000% one of my favorites
The story of how Linda Perry wrote the song beautiful for Christina Aguilera pretty amazing. It isn’t a exact quote, but it was something along. The lines of Linda Perry was playing the song on the piano, and Christina Aguilera asked what is that. Linda said something along the lines of if not a song for you you wouldn’t understand it, but Christinaultimately said I do know what it feels like to not feel beautiful
Try Franz Rhythm Family. They have covered it twice. Once on Franz Rhythm channel about 3 years ago and a second cover a year ago on Franz Rhythm Mom Channel. The lead singer just recently turned 16 so she was about 13 on the first cover,
This was one of the best free concerts I ever saw in the mid 90s in Cincinnati. I was into metal, and you have to appreciate talent when you experience it. I was kinda awestruck that the live experience from kinda far away towards the back of the crowd, I was absolutely captivated. It makes me so happy to see someone young experiencing these songs I grew up with for the first time. You need some Collective Soul, Blind Melon, Spin Doctors, and maybe Bowling for Soup
Lead singer Linda Perry was in a relationship for many years with Sara Gilbert {sister of Melissa from Little House on the Prairie} from the TV show Roseanne ✌💖☮

I heard this song for the first time on my 25th birthday. I've loved it ever since. "25 years and my life is still trying to get up that great big hill" If only I had understood how young I actually was.
San Francisco Grunge Rock at its finest, hell yeah !!! I lived in SF at this time - in the Inner Sunset near Haight St. - goin to hear open mics all over The City: Tribolectric, Jammilton, Lonnie Lazar, Bryan Harrison Band -- I love ya'all
I love how much retread this song got from the Netflix show Sense8. It was in one of the fan's favorite scenes, and was just such a fun scene/song combination.
I remember when this song came out, and I love it even more now. And just about every time I hear it, I still have the same reaction you did. It's such a beautiful song that I can't help but tear up. And I love telling my son "buddy - sometimes there are certain things that are so amazing, they bring a tear to your eyes."
Linda Perry has helped these singers find their unique voice and helped write some of their biggest hits: Pink, Christina Aguilera, Gwen Stefani. Worked with Adele, Alicia Keys, and Dolly Parton. She signed James Blunt in the US.
Without doubt my most favourite song from the nineties, could listen to it on repeat and never get bored of it! The only song of Linda Perry's I know of is Knock Me Out which features Grace Slick and is on The Crow City Of Angel's soundtrack.
I had this video recorded off of MTV on a VHS tape. This song was followed by the video for Mazzy Star's song Fade Into You. So now I have to go watch that. It's another great 90s tune. Totally worth checking out on the channel.
Hi there. Another great video from yourself. Just a brilliant song that I still have on my playlist to this day I don’t think she realised how big she would become because she didn’t really like the spotlight. Thanks once again for a great video and please keep them coming because you do such a great job. Blessings to you from England.
I remember as a kid doing an internship in the Bay Area, I ran into Linda and I didn't know who she was. When my friends and got back at our apartment they played this song telling me that's who I was talking to. While I was there I took up playing guitar, it seems like another lifetime ago.
So this came out when i was thirteen or so. I do remember our music teacher saying she did impossible stuff on that album. Unfortunately people at that time also said she never really seemed to live up to it live. What I did not know however, is that she did write for so many other great artists. Thanks to this youtube thing and comments I learned about that which otherwise I wouldn't have.
Awesome reaction and what a great tune. There is a 3 piece all girl band called The Warning, 3 sisters from Mexico, and are bringing back rock & roll. Check out one of their new songs "Hell You Call A Dream" live from the Pepsi Center. They have so many great songs, it's like they never write a bad one. Their new LP "Keep Me Fed" drops June 28th.
Good On You!!!! I hope you get time to listen to this whole album..... Really great stuff and unexpected paths to explore.... I always wanted Linda and Johnette Napolitano from Concrete Blonde to do an album together..... Another powerhouse voice is Johnette.. Thanks for all you do.
This was the bands only hit. Only album released I believe. As others have mentioned Linda Perry wrote a few hits. "Get the Party Started" sung by Pink. "Beautiful" from Christina Aguilera.
Iconic song & video. Linda Perry is incredibly talented. Not only does she have an incredible voice, is an incredible writer but had done a lot of writing & producing for many artists.
I was a young thrash metalhead picking out a dozen albums for the Columbia House "for a penny" deal. After selecting all the "good" albums, I had a few selections left, so I grabbed 4 Non Blondes and Crash Test Dummies' God Shuffled His Feet to enjoy as jokes while stoned. Completely shocked when both albums turned out to be masterpieces that I still listen to today.
Others have mentioned that lead vocalist Linda Perry has written hit songs for a number of other artists. This was 4 Non Blondes' only studio album ("Bigger, Better Faster, More"). There were other singles including "Spaceman." Interstingly,. There was another radio hit from this album, titled "Morphine and Chocolate," which apparently was not released as a single according to Wikipedia. Like you, I am mesmerized by Linda Perry's vocal prowess. She can go from Sweet and lovely to piercing and coarse and back all in the same phrase. While nobody has a voice like Linda Perry's, I'd love to suggest a tune I think you'll really like. A lot of sources call Sinead O'Connor a one-hit wonder for her cover of Pirince's "Nothing Compares 2U" (which, if you aren't familiar with the song is worth a reaction). However, she was already well-known in the Album-Oriented Rock (AOR) world from her previous album, "The Lion and the Cobra" which had a couple of songs that got a lot of airplay on AOR stations. The first, and biggest hit was a song called "Mandinka" which I think you will enjoy.
Linda Perry is awesome, such a fantastic songwriter...from the same album you should check out something like "Morphine and Chocolate", and from her solo "In Flight" album "Knock me out" (Feat. Grace Slick). She never actually wanted to front a band, she just wanted to write songs...and she's written some amazing songs over the years for quite a few people!
You make me thankful that I was around when this version was released; I haven't actually heard any other version, because this version is just perfect for me; it shows her powerful voice, and her delicate voice so well. Thanks for the reaction.
This is one of the first CDs I ever bought after I got a CD player in 1993. The entire album is great. If not filmed for reactions, you owe it to yourself to check out their full album Bigger, Better, Faster, More!
They do a killer cover of the Led Zeppelin song Misty Mountain Hop. The whole LZ tribute album is great. They are on it. Hootie and the Blowfish, Sheryl Crow, Stone Temple Pilots, Duran Duran, Helmet, Cracker, Blind Melon, Tori Amos singing with Robert Plant.
Linda Perry was a definite big crush of mine! She’s still beautiful today, if not more. Her voice always gives me chills also! Her resume is absolutely crazy! Brilliant song writer! Such a damn shame that they only released one album. 😢
This is the 2nd single from their only album, released 30 years ago, in 1993. It was their biggest song. Linda Perry is the lead singer and rhythm guitarist. Linda left the band in '94, and the band broke up not long after that.
I've said since this song came out and was never followed up that it stands out as the best one hit wonder song of all time. I was a teenager when it came out and it is still great
Wow I haven't this original version in a long that was cool, the lead singer was married to Sara Gilbert from the Roseanne show and now The Conners show.
This is so trippy, I just heard this 1 hr ago for the 1st time in years! And here it is again! Whoa... Ohh God I'm stoned. Great song and great you! ✌️🫡
I wish she continued to perform instead of giving away her creative writing to others. She had her own reasons for sure but still I feel like she robbed herself of an bigger career and us of her talented crazy voice which is a zillion times better than any other singer she wrote hits for. Can you imagine if she went on on her own writing and performing herself, with Four No Blonde and solo!?? She's simply amazing and she can do any song, from soave smooth ones to gritty dramatic ones effortlessly! This song is probably the one I listened more than any other during the Grunge era, aside Stone Temple Pilot, Pearl Jam and most importantly, of course, Soundgarden and Alice In Chains/Mad Season which are the bands I kept listening to even when the Grunge era was over. PS: I'm curious to see a reaction of yours to Spin Doctors, Aileen. I hope many others agree with me so that band might have a chance... those guys were a breath of fresh air when the Grunge was fading away...
Great song, takes me back to the Summer of 1993 when I was 16. Can't believe that was 31 years ago. I don't think I have ever heard another song by them so I will be interested if they did more too.
Lol I need to get more on par with the more classic rock. I have heard this at bars before, wow never knew it was by them. As always great review you always bring your all!!!
Linda Perry is incredible, her voice is one of a kind! It's not a popular or well known hit, but her duet with Grace Slick from the Crow: City of Angels soundtrack, "Knock Me Out" is stunning.
Fun fact: lead singer Linda Perry went on to write iconic hits for the likes of P!nk and Christina Aguilera in the 2000s. Her résumé is crazy!
Little did Linda know when she wrote this song that her destination at the top of the great big hill of hope would be writing "Get The Party Started"
She also produced a lot of music, even outside of her songwriting. She's produced songs for James Blunt, Gwen Stefani, Britney Spears, Joan Jett, Alicia Keys, Celine Dion, Adam Lambert, Miley Cyrus, Adele, Dolly Parton have all worked with Linda Perry across several decades.

Aileen i knew you would love this song and everything about it.
I never get sick of listening to this song.
Keep rockin
The first time I heard this song. I fell in love with it!!!!! listened to it 100s of times and still not tired of it!!!!
Linda Perry was a definite big crush of mine! She’s still beautiful today, if not more. Her voice always gives me chills also! Her resume is absolutely crazy! Brilliant song writer! Such a damn shame that they only released one album. 😢
I am telling you now, that vocal range is amazing. This is another band I can say I had the privilege of seeing live in London, England in the '90s.
This is the 2nd single from their only album, released 30 years ago, in 1993. It was their biggest song. Linda Perry is the lead singer and rhythm guitarist. Linda left the band in '94, and the band broke up not long after that.
She can sing anything. She used to be in a zepplin cover band. Check out Misty Mountain Hop 4 non blondes.
I've said since this song came out and was never followed up that it stands out as the best one hit wonder song of all time. I was a teenager when it came out and it is still great
Somehow your reactions take a great songs and make them greater. That’s one hell of a talent!
Wow I haven't this original version in a long that was cool, the lead singer was married to Sara Gilbert from the Roseanne show and now The Conners show.
Your reaction to this song is so beautiful.
Ooooohh that smile at 5:40!! Keep it going, with much love and enthusiasm!
You should listen to Pink's version live in London where Linda Perry is playing acoustic guitar!!
Always love a good Aileen reaction! You're reactions are so raw, honest, deep and fun to watch. Great video!
Great song, takes me back to the Summer of 1993 when I was 16. Can't believe that was 31 years ago. I don't think I have ever heard another song by them so I will be interested if they did more too.
Love this song, and enjoyed your review!
She is AMAZING!! I could never get tired of watching this video or hearing her sing it. Unmatched.
Well I always love seeing your reactions!!
Yesterday I had a Marathon of you!! 😅
It was a great present for me cause it was my birthday.
