Still cant believe its been over 30 years for this song, in the early 90's i was working at a comic book store and this song was on the radio all the time... good times.
I know that 4 Non Blondes is considered a 'one hit wonder, but this whole album is 'lightning in a bottle'. I still keep Bigger, Better, Faster, More in my rotation.
I completely agree. People make fun of this band, but the fact is that the whole album was great. Absolutely love "Spaceman" and "Drifting." Linda Perry (as many know) also went on to be an amazing successful music producer and songwriter for other artists. But something a lot of people don't know is she also had a post-Blondes solo album called "In Flight" which is also great. (Though it's moodier than "Bigger, Better.")
3 Years ago this video passed 1 Billion views in February 2021 Linda Perry the singer has released solo work, and produced and written songs on albums by Christina Aguilera, Alicia Keys, Pink, Gwen Stefani, Courtney Love and Kelly Osbourne.
Whoooooo here we go guys!!!!!!! One of my absolute favorites. Linda Perry is a legend. She has written and contributed to so many amazing songs over the decades. A true musical genius.
I met them on Castro St back in the 90s, Linda and I were shopping for hats, I asked the name of her band. She said, 4 Non Blondes (I laughed and said Yah, I can understand that). She invited me to come see her at Josies. I had to works so I declined. Dear Mr President is another great composition.
The singer Linda Perry has been a massive success after having this one hit. She's wrote songs for or with every female pop star you could think of. She's probably most famous for writing with Pink but she's got hits with all of them.
When I hear Linda Perry, I can't help thinking of Toronto's singer/songwriter Amanda Marshall... girls of the 90's... power voices. My favorite 3 from her are "Let It Rain"... nice vocals, "Beautiful Goodbye"... dramatic and powerful crescendo near the end, and "If I Didn't Have You"... I just love the message of her lyrics!
I really, really like her voice! And she really is a talented songwriter. This song came out I think it was my final year of high school, so maybe like 92/93.
Man, sounds of my youth. I saw them perform this tune in a 10'x10' radio studio, where the morning radio "personality" would openly invite anyone who could get there early enough could hang out, have some morning coffee, and just relax during that "wake-up period" (which I did very often on my way into work). I was pretty much their age at the time, and we sort of all associated with each other. There was a kind of odd kinship there, in the foggy early mornings in San Francisco of the era. Damn, I feel old sometimes...
Great song writer. A bit eccentric I suppose but this is a great tune. I love 'Beautiful' and 'Hurt' a whole bunch and she wrote them. Her fashion was not just for the video, that's how she dressed maybe still does? So check out 'Christina Aguilera - Hurt' (2006) next. One of them tunes I get Goose Bumps from every time. Cheers.
This was a powerful group! So sad that they did not get more airplay! The whole album Bigger Better Faster was huge musically! Solid all the way through. You should try Spaceman, or Dear Mr. President!! 2 more songs off the same album. Actually, just pick ANY & ALL the songs off the Bigger Better Faster lp!!
Love this song it always seems to bring a tear to my eye 😢. I love Linda Perry ❤ she is such a beautiful person inside and out. Her voice is so rich and powerful. I guess the reason this brings a tear 😢is because I'm getting old and I still feel like I'm climbing that hill to hope and a destination .❤
Hardly anyone knows/knew the actual title of this song- "what's up!" is never actually said anywhere in the song. She only says "what's going on?" Perry did not want anyone confusing the title with the famous Marvin Gaye tune "What's Going On?", so she chose instead to use "what's up!"
Yep when I was a kid we had roller skating rinks. This was the 70's to early 80's. Our songs at the time were obviously from that time period and included Rock, pop, and (Lord Have Mercy ) ... Disco. 😂 So many memories . So many injuries that required stitches! 😂 We were fearless and crazy and stupid! But what fun!
In case it hasn't been mentioned, she has a couple pretty great solo albums. In Flight being the best of them, but After Hours is also well worth a listen and Deep Dark Robot is another worthy project she lead.
Hey guys!!! Linda Perry is amazing. Two things. One, this is the most famous song, but the album "Bigger better faster more" is awesome. I think that you should check it. Second, she wrote songs for many singers, like Pink, and others. There's a video in TH-cam "Letter to god", unbeliebable, Ozzy's wife introduced her and You can see her crying
The song was going to be titled What’s Going On but Marvin Gaye had a big hit with that title so they called the song What’s Up to distinguish their song from Marvin’s 🎶🎶🎶
There are some songs that just make me so happy. This is one of them. I like the music, the lyrics, the performance, and totally love the outfits. Outrageous is just another word for unconventional - yay!
Linda Perry left the band after the first album, from what I've read the rest of the band and the record co. wanted to do pretty much the same music/record as the first one. Linda did not. She went on to become a very popular songwriter for top stars. Great reaction!
We did plenty of roller skating in the early seventies. The song that mostly takes me back is Black Dog by Led Zeppelin. They always played it for backward skate . Don't know why I remember that. Lol😅.

This great song 🔥🔥🔥 was out in 93. Linda Perry is a great singer and songwriter. Wrote songs for Pink and others. The live video filmed at a pool event is just as good. Her vocals are incredible. I believe she can do justice covering J. Joplins Piece of my Heart and other classic rock songs. I really dig this song.
Linda Perry has written a ton of songs for other artists. She is a crazy talented. This is a great album. Other great songs on it are Dear Mr. President and Morphine and Chocolate..
Indoor roller skating was actually at it's peak in the late 70s/early 80s. Certain songs were known as "roller skating songs" because they would always be played, usually disco or even metal songs, but the biggest roller skating song of them all was actually Stairway To Heaven, which was invariably the last song of the night. Then came inline skates which made outdoor skating more practical, not to mention the disco floors being taken over by break dancing which not as many could participate in, and Indoor roller skating went into decline.
Got a suggestion for you two. Norah Jones... wonderfully talented, jazzy, bluesy, amazing voice... and... she did a duet with Dolly Parton! Ummm songs of hers... the songs that introduced me to her sound in 2002.. "Sunrise", "Don't Know Why", "Come Away With Me".. speaking of which, the album "Come Away with Me" is certified DIAMOND... just a suggestion though, do with it what you will ;)
Linda Perry. Had a lot of pent-up destructive anger. She shut herself off from the world for a while until Pink wanting to start a career was calling her and leaving long messages. Pink stayed with her for a while and that is when ... Get The Party Started ...was written and the beginning of Linda's 2nd life in the industry. She premiered a song Called ...Letter to God ...on "The Talk " with Sara Gilbert... She had them in tears.
I empathize with Sam. When I was a kid, I had a treasured set of matchbox cars in an attaché type case which I took to the playground one day. I went home without them, heartbroken. I've yet to recover. True story.
Steampunk is the look. Song is kind of a protest due to lack of women in the music industry at the time (late 80s, early 90s). Linda Perry has done work for P!nk and a few others

We had 2 things to do on the weekend if you were under 18. We had a movie theater and we had a roller skating rink and the roller skating rink was open on Friday nights. That style of dress is "Steampunk". A fusion of Victorian aesthetics and futuristic visions. It's not completely dead. I go to a local Flea Market and there are two young girls who show up often in some of the most interesting looks. Also a man in his 40 or 50"s with a Top Hat with goggles.
