  • Re-release: Newly added details regarding Ginger cut scene from "Gold Diggers of 1933", starting at 50:27. "Sitting Pretty" scenes replaced with better quality video.
Episode 1 of 6 previously covered Fred and Ginger's lives and careers from their births through 1934, covering their Vaudeville and Broadway careers.
This episode covers their Hollywood careers from 1929 until their first pairing in Flying Down to Rio in 1933.
This phase crosses over the last and is almost all Ginger. Ginger entered the movies in 1929, while at first still doing Vaudeville, Broadway and nightclub acts. She did 26 movies and shorts before Flying Down to Rio, slowly working her way up.
Fred continued his stage career through July 1933 before his first and only movie appearance before their historic pairing.
The subsequent episodes will be published soon.

Absolutely love what you have done here and you have opened my eyes to a lot of stuff I never knew about. My mum first showed me Astaire & Rogers when I was about 19 and I have loved them ever since. I did 'read' Gingers bio at the time and I think one from Fred or about Fred and formulated the opinion that their on screen chemistry came from opposites attracting and was chemistry only meant for the big screen with Fred perhaps finding the more extraverted Ginger a bit tiring in real life. I can't say that is really my impression anymore. Outside of what you have done here I was particularly moved by the Oscars reunion especially when he hugged her and said 'my baby' and she was beaming from ear to ear... Plus their was the RKO reunion and the piece that was written about that was sooooo moving.
You have taught me so much from your videos and I think its wonderful that you are helping educate us all and future generations about this wonderful pairing. Many thanks!!!

Your welcome. I create a lot of videos so people can see the actual scenes, but my passion is these detailed documentaries. I am filling in their careers now, and then will resume creating the 5 part documentary series. Without providing the background, I found it impossible to go through their two amazing, but incerdibly long, careers, without the length getting REDICULOUS.

Sadly, we won't ever see their like again...but they have affected the world in the best way possible- those who have acted in the films, silent and talkies, black & white and colour alike. As for Fred and Ginger, they made the world a better place and helped people get through life with a smile and encouraged people to laugh and to dance their cares away, over-all making a brighter future for America during the Great Depression. Because of this, they will live on forever!

Wonderful, just wonderful - and thank you for what appears to be a genuine labour of love.
My mom was a dance instructor in the late 40's and early 50's, and she always said that Ginger made Fred better than he would have been without her. Fine, I was a kid and what did I care - I was into sports. Mom also said the best dancers were the best athletes, which just sounded crazy, but ok - I loved watching old movies on TV and Fred and Ginger's musicals were some of my favorites. Time goes on, and now I start to see what mom was talking about, and when I watch these two dance I can barely take my eyes off Ginger. Even though Fred was the better dancer, she did make him better simply because they fit together so perfectly. Sigh...
Anyway, your documentary series is simply fascinating. I had no idea of their backstories - so much in common! - and how they finally came to be teamed up after separately conquering Vaudeville and Broadway. It's time to start watching their movies again...

Thank you... yes, I agree with your mother, and also dance critic Arlene Croce who wrote the "The Fred Astaire and Ginger Rogers Book". As to your not being able to take our eyes off of Ginger, I do the same, and in time I realized Fred's choreography in many of those dances was made to highlight Ginger. One interviewer started saying when she watched them, she only saw Fred, and Fred cut her off and said "then I am not doing my job properly". Fred was never better than with Ginger. Croce explains the levels of dance skill, and while Ginger was not 100% in the more technical issues, she was great at the highest level, expressing emotion.
I will get the third episode done fairly soon, I changed the approach because the documentaries get too long, so I am putting out all the supporting material first, so the documentary can just reference these.

Part 3 ??? This is really well done 👍 I’ve binged 1 & 2 and think it could b used as a blueprint to a mini series about Fred and Ginger

Thank you for the compliment. I am fairly knew to this, and started with the documentaries. I shoulda done my homework, starting of with Fred and Ginger's combined 136 year career is tough. I have made several versions, and they all get too long. I have finally come up with what will be "my style"... first, produce the uinderlying material, then build up to the documentary. I have to redo #2, removing the movie footage since anyone interested can drill down into that material on my playlists. SO... just about totally wrapped Fred and Ginger as a team, putting out their movies when they were apart, and as each area is completed, create the documentary for that period. I am working on it

I think you have a great style. Its simple and clear and conveys just what you want to say and we want to hear. Its nice and intimiate. Your voice is clear, personal and well paced so it is easy to listen to. If I was just to offer you positive critique for the sake of it I would say watch your spelling haha... I think in one video you put Bay Face instead of Baby Face etc... lol but its all good and one of the best things about You Tube is you don't need to worry about length but yes I think you are right on not dwelling too long on clips when imparting information. People can find the clips themselves from your channel if so inspired. But keep doing what you are doing. Its great and you are nailing it!!!@@thedriveinmoviehistory5327

Rumor has it the original writing was 1,500 pages, and she had to trim iot down from there. I have read a few other bio's, Fred's and Katherine Hepburn's, and Ginger's was by fat the best, the most detailed. Hepburn's was odd, different, really a collection of short stories.

LOL, it must be edit check day. Yeah, I know that, but my typing is not that good, and my spelling even worse. I catch most of the errors, but not all.

What a difference in the elegance and class in Ginger’s films when she began working with Fred.

Up to this point, Ginger had mostly played "common" people kind of roles, a few more affluent. We sometimes forget how young she was, only 22 for "Flying Down to Rio", never had acting, dancing or singing lessons, but had been steadily improving over the 22 or so movies she had done. She was "ready" by the time she joined with Fred for these roles. Up to this point, she had never really danced in a movie, and dancing with the great Fred Astaire, with his incredible talent and choreography skills, really made her shine.
