Actually we do have Good morning, Good afternoon, Good evening and Good night but we rarely use these words in daily life because it's too formal and ancient.
Good morning = Arun-sawas (อรุณสวัสดิ์)
Good afternoon = Tiwaa-sawas (ทิวาสวัสดิ์)
Good evening = Saayan-sawas (สายัณห์สวัสดิ์)
Good night = Raatree-sawas (ราตรีสวัสดิ์)
But if you say hello to Thai with these words, they will impress with your Thai skill and don't forget to put Krab or Ka at the end! :)
You are totally correct. By the way, we use only Arun-sawas and Raatree-sawas in nowadays. I'm really sure if you use Tiwaa-sawas and Saayan-sawas to the people in new generation, all of them do not understand even in my generation. Someone don't know the words Tiwaa and Saayan already as you told me the ancient words. Thank you for sharing ^^
Actually those phrases are not Thai. They are translated from English phrases using the Pali-Sanskrit vocabulary and use them as borrowed words.
You are wrong.
Arun sawas is incorrect.
It should be arun sawat.
What you did is translate sor/tor as Sawa in that part and S(SawaS) in the second part, but you know perfectly well that sor/tor as a second consanant in a word is pronunced t/d or tor/dor so the correct romanization is sawat or sawad.
The thai is below-for all who cant read thai thevsecond and third character is the same andcisvcalled sor/tor and has a dual pronunciation in thai.
Thais know this but very rsrely translate it to englush character set acvurately and then wonder why we get it wrong
สวัสดี
