    Thank you for sharing the dahlia procedure, it is quite a lot of work but so worth it. Gardening is tough work, and most satisfying. I have tubers in vermiculite presently, waiting for the eyes to appear but after watching this, I think I will place them into small plastic pots with a good mix of compost and potting soil and get them started to become more established. Hopefully all shall go well. Kind regards.

    I absolutely love you guys!!!!!!!!! Every time someone asks me about my dahlias I refer them to your video " How Geoff and Heather grow dahlias" because that is where my journey began with growing dahlias four years ago. I am a late starter at 65 years old now but oh how it has blessed my life and others I have shared the flowers with. This year I am trying to grow dahlias for my granddaughters wedding in August. I live in Utah, USA and by the first week or two of Oct. I have lost them to frost so I have to enjoy mine for such a short time. Just love your wife--you chose well. P.S. A new love of mine is hardy hibiscus--have you ever grown them? I can not be without them!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    My 3rd year growing dahlias. Year one and two were... not always successful but your videos have set me on the right track. I sprouted about 20 as you did and they are now thriving in the garden. Thank you for taking the time in your busy season to share this with us,

    You can transpose your excel list into the 20 plants across the back of the border. Just copy a few from your long excel list and the right click on your mouse, and see the transpose button. It’ll paste them into a horizontal line for your plan ! Great to see you using technology for the garden.

    Hi Tom, you can pinch out as many times as you like, you end up with shorter plants, stronger stems and bigger flowers. But you get less of them. My aim is to get as many flowers as possible and to let the plants get as tall as they like, but I discard any varieties that aren’t strong enough to give me the right effect.

    Looks like your neighbour is going to put more effort on his garden this year ;). Must be not easy to "compete" with a gardener like you, eheh. I would love it. I planted mine 62 Dahlias in pots on a terrace. Huge effort but big satisfactions. You are really inspirational to me. A gardener from Italy !

    Thanks so much for sharing your knowledge. Helps me greatly as this is my first year growing Dahlias well any plants really. Although Iv had a garden for all my married life this is the first time I have the pleasure in making a pretty flower garden.
    I’m hoping and keeping everything crossed that it might look quite good lol 🤞🏻. Thanks again x

    Love your channel and have been visiting/commenting regularly. I've become enchanted with dahlias and test drove- planting several last year. This year, I have plenty that are overwintered and ordered a bunch that are hardening off prior to in ground planting. I appreciate everything you share! Thank you!

    Hi Anya, there’s still plenty of time to pinch out the growth point. In fact some growers pinch out twice (“double stopping”) to try to get larger flowers on stronger stems.

    Haha...you guys are funny...love it. I use 5/8 conduit pipe for stakes. They are cheap here. Love your collection!

    Hi Laurel. I suggest you take the top growth point out of each stem, otherwise the plants might get too leggy.

    I love your videos! I have tried to do as you do. But have a couple of questions. What labels do you use and what do you write with that doesn’t disappear. We got 40 10 ft rebar stakes . Do you use stakes all at the same height? How tall do you make them?

    Hi Geoff, Heather, you have a wonderful Dahlia garden and Informative videos. We are trying to grow two dahlias from tubers in a large pot here in California . One of them is doing great( more than a foot tall), the other (Cornel) is very slow, only couple inches tall and now the lower leaves have begun to droop and wilt. Do you have any advice on how to recover it?

  • @Dahliaholic
    @Dahliaholic  3 ปีที่แล้ว

    Try checking the Cornel tuber. It has probably rotted. If so, if there are new roots emerging from near the stem the plant may survive. If not, it is unlikely to make it.

    I love what you do. Missing your videos 2022. Hope you both are doing well. Could I ask what thickness is your rebar. Also am I correct in thinking you only use one support per plant. would love to see a video of how you do this. Last yr I used 3 or 4 bamboo canes for support but I hated seeing too many sticks. So this year planning to invest in rebar and copy your technique. Please please do more videos.

    • @Dahliaholic

      You’re correct, I use one stake per plant. The rebar stakes are 1cm wide. Geoff

    Very enjoyable video as always. Nice to see what you do at what time of year.
    With the virus in a plant, you said it probably transfers to each plant of the same tuber. Does the same happen with a well selected cutting from that plant ?
    Also do you pinch them out now that they are planted.
    Thanks for great video and all the info.

    Can I ask a question about pinching off / stopping out?
    I am quite new to this but have planted 35 dahlias this year. I followed your advice and pinched off the little growing point on all of them. Now I see other people snipping off a LOT from the tops of their stems,
    I think for the same purpose. Is this something I should do as well, or is it a case of doing one or the other?

    Hi, some of my salvia tubers have sent up 5 or 6 shoots from the base, not just one. I am growing the Bishop series for quantity rather than size of flower, so do I retain all of those shoots and cut out the top of each leader in that one plant?

    The tuber with the virus, was it stored with the other tubers? Are you concerned about the area of soil it was planted in last year? I'm just wondering how vigilant to be.

    • @Dahliaholic
      @Dahliaholic  3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I am not aware of any evidence that virus spreads from tuber to tuber if they are stored close together, nor that it remains in the surrounding soil.

    Is it too late to pinch out my dahlias? I forgot about it. Now it’s very tall. 2ft. It’s a bishop of landoff. I didn’t need to stake last year.
