    Never really considered them a metal band honestly or cared to listen to them, but back in 2004 I had a friend who had an extra ticket so I went to go check em out live and...... They blew me the fuck away! I was very impressed seeing them 20 yrs ago. Their vocalist can WAIL onstage and has a very dynamic range in performance, total crowd control and stage presence, they KILLED it live so I give mad respect to this band even though its def not my cup of tea genre wise

      Necrotic Nick- I just lumped them in with the nu metal pack even though they didn't entirely fit there either. I was a fan from the rip with the debut but seeing them at Tattoo the Earth in 2000 definitely cemented my fandom. They're great live and Lajon is a beast live. Dude can croon so beautifully and bellow with a ton of power. I'll probably always have a soft spot for this band.

    Sevendust are one of the best bands to come out of the whole nu metal or alternative metal movement of the 90’s. Nearly every album they’ve put out has been good and this one’s no exception. I think that this new album is their best since Kill the Flaw.

    4 minutes into your video and, Wow! You guys REALLY breakdown 7D's music to a T. Great job so far... And as I continue to the end, it is perhaps the BEST video describing Sevendust I've seen. I'd like to add to anyone who hasn't seen this band live, their albums don't do justice to their live performances. They sound WAY heavier and way louder. Choreography among the guys is crazy to see how they don't miss a note. And let's not mention the most hardcore fans (as I am). Sevendust is a true gem of the genre. Thank you for this excellent depiction. Phenomenal job.

    Messenger has one of the most powerful messages I have heard. Let The Devil Win is definitely written by Clint as it rings of his solo work. With his struggles with addiction it hits home as his expression (should hear him tell the story of him being detained in a Slovakia Prison that got him to get clean). I have seen them over 20 times and are my sons favorite band. Also the low growls are Morgan and the higher ones are usually Clint. Quick story about introducing them to a friend. He heard the Animosity album and said he sounded like he may have been in drum corps when younger. It was a compliment because no one really plays that way.

    This album is shaping up to be one of my favorites from Sevendust. Really riff-oriented. In some ways even riffier and better than Home. And the melodies are great, as usual. To me, this is a pretty original album. I can't really compare it to any other Sevendust record. It's its own experience and entity. The lyrics are some of the best as well.

    To me, the reason I'm still a fan of 7D is because they are not sell outs. They keep writing according to their root sound which are LJ vocal, heavy tuned guitars, crazy morgan drums, bass, solos, growl, scream, backing vocals. They might sound radio friendly nowadays but still u can headbang to every track just like headbanging to their debut album (or previous album).

  • @SophiaAphrodite

    When you talk about a locked in sound. You are definitely right. When Clint left they went heavy for 3-4 albums. So the melodic sound is definitely Clints influence. But yes, this album is not in the top 5. Blood and Stone was better. But I prefer the melodic sound. My top 5 in order.

    If you sample from all of their albums, you could absolutely make a death metal album. Especially between "alpha" and "black out the sun" . Best song ever is "murderbar"
    Also the electronic opening were used a ton on hope and sorrow

      Necrotic Nick- I don't know about "death metal" but I would definitely say you could make their heaviest album to date there. They've definitely used electronic elements before but I feel like this had a bigger focus on them.

    Your typical Sevendust album, like your comparison with CC, you can't expect much variation but it's always solid. I do love the first track though, really beautiful, then again I can listen to Lajon sing the phone book !😁

      Necrotic Nick- Yeah, Lajon could sing a Taco Bell menu and it would be awesome... and would probably be better for you too lol. Sometimes that immediate familiarity is just the thing you want to here.

    Pretty good album. Has 2 or 3 songs that I find kind of average but decent but that’s about it. I enjoyed this album more than I thought I would. I think it’s a step up from the previous album Blood & Stone, an album I do like though. I probably like All I See Is War more but still, I thought this album was pretty good. I saw someone comment that All I See Is War was a dumpster fire. I really don’t get that at all, I thought that album was pretty strong. Many great songs from that album like Dirty, Risen, Moments, and The Truth. Some of my favorites on Truth Killer would be the title track, Won’t Stop The Bleeding, No Revolution, and Fence. Anyways, thanks for the review guys.

      Necrotic Nick- Thanks, man! I think it's on par with what they've done over the course of their career and there's really solid standouts here for sure. I think there's more I'd come back to on this one versus the last 2 honestly. Not that those are bad but I do think there's more that stands out. Honestly this band really doesn't have a bad album in my book. They're super consistent and you really only get the slightest of changes between albums but they're good at what they do which keeps me coming back.

  • @DamnableReverend

    I've never listened to a Sevendust album, and had no idea they had so many. I do know that the singer was doing something with, i think, the guitarist from Striper recently? There was some kind of Striper connection anyway.
    I do remember hearing a song or two in the late 90s and -- not really enjoying them. But I'd be willing to give an album a shot. One thing that makes me leery a little bit is the vocals. Do they have any albums that lean a little less heavily, maybe, on the singing? I'd probably give that a shot first and see what I think. The idea of R&B-influenced hard rock doesn't sound bad at all, nor do all the syncopations and so on, but I really dislike Linkin Park, and pretty much anything to do with so-called nu metal (sorry to sound like one of those old crusty metalheads, but it is what it is I guess)...still, if you have any thoughts, I'll go for it.

    • @thrallsofmetal
      @thrallsofmetal  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Necrotic Nick- I wasn't aware of Lajon doing anything with any of the members of Stryper but Lajon in general is way more of a singer than a growler. Cold Day Memory, Alpha and Black Out the Sun have some heavier sections that are a bit more abrasive for them but I wouldn't say this band is too much like Linkin Park though. The nu metal tropes are still there but they're pretty good at it. If anything it's worth checking out.

    Hard to go wrong with Sevendust. It's so cool that they're still out there doing it and turning in great records. Agreed, I'd like to hear them spread their wings a bit, but they know how to write hooky riffs, big choruses, and you're never going to go wrong with Lajon's voice. They deserve to be a lot bigger than they are.

    • @thrallsofmetal
      @thrallsofmetal  ปีที่แล้ว

      Necrotic Nick- I've been a fan sine the debut and while I pretty much know exactly what I'm going to get with each album they still execute their sound exceptionally well. I'd agree as much as I wouldn't mind some variety in their discography their formula works and Lajon still kills it. They've deserved to be bigger for years but I'm glad they're at least still successful at this.

    I remember when Sevendust first came out. And I kinda liked them at the time but at that time I was into so many other groups and into alot of heavier groups. I wasn't really into NuMetal much at all. But that being said I did however get into them in 2005 with their NEXT album. which I truly love and believe in my opinion it's one of their greatest albums to date. And since then it's been hit or miss with the later albums now. I will be definitely check ing this one out for a few listens before I decide to actually buy it. Over the past few years because of this fucked up government and the fucked up economy. I have to be more selective with my album buying nowadays.😔but I thank you guys for another great album review. Necrotic Nick- Thanks, man! I've been following them since the debut and at the time I bit on the whole nu metal thing for awhile so they fit into my rotation a lot. I've stuck with them over the years though but I think after Black Out the Sun they've kinda just stayed in cruise control. It's not a bad thing to be consistent and I like that they've stayed with their sound instead of following trends. I can respect that.

      Necrotic Nick- I think this one's on the same level as the last few though I do like some of the more electronic flourishes here and there on this one. I just listened to a few tracks from this new album. To me the guitars have a almost dubsteppy like sound, idk. Not much of any real heaviness on this. The self titled debut was always where it's at for me. That album had a heaviness and overall sound that they never really matched IMO. Even the 2nd album, HOME is "MEH!" to me. However, the last three albums have not really done much for me. That includes this new one. It's not bad, just getting too mainstream for me now and the heaviness they used to bring is slowly fading away. Only a few metal tracks on "Truth Killer". Sick Mouth and Fence are great.
