  • After a long delay, the paint booth is finally operational. It still needs some little tweaking and small things to button it up, but at least i am painting in it. The tube axial fan is working great.

    The one paint booth I ever painted in we kept a garden sprayer and misted the floor before painting to keep any concrete dust from getting in the air when walking around shooting paint. It seemed to help a lot.

    Of 20+ home made paintbooth videos I've watched, this one I'm thinking "this guy has an idea how to make something functional".... then towards the end of the video we see his shop and I'm like "ohhhh, of coarse....this isn't the first time he's put something together." 😍💙🔧

  • @GregsGarage
    @GregsGarage 5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    You need to find a mechanical louver from somewhere... They are powered and can switch on with your fan. That will allow your intake to open when in use and close when not in use. There are non-powered ones too that you can open by hand, but they aren't as cool.

    • @turbocobra
      @turbocobra  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      I have seen the ones that are made for the Fan outlet, and I definitely need that also to keep the critters out, but a louver for the intake would be huge! even if i built one, which would be fun to make, would be expensive in materials alone

    you know......if you make a plenum box in front of that tubeaxial fan....you would get way more pull from it!!!!! build it 8foot wide 8 foot high if you have that if not just to the top. and 24 inches deep!! you will be impressed! And maybe a screen over that fan so some kid don't loose their arm.

    Hi, I like the idea of your paint booth and I'm planning to make my own too, my question is how is the smell from outside the booth, does the filter helps reduce the smell of the paint? that is my only concern because I don't my neighbors to complain about me while I'm doing my painting works. Thanks in advance for your reply.

    • @turbocobra
      @turbocobra  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      the filters do nothing for the fumes, very strong smell, obviously depending on the type of paint, but automotive paint is very strong smelling

    Good video. Are you using explosion-proof lights and fan? (Which you should always use.) If so, where did you get the lights? Note that vapor-proof lights may be different from explosion-proof.

  • @roughlyEnforcing

    i've been thinking about doing something like this but struggling to figure out how to keep the building warm enough to get the paint to be in range. I'm guessing you live somewhere hot and this isn't an issue - but if you are gonna deal with this I'm curious if you have a plan .

    • @turbocobra
      @turbocobra  ปีที่แล้ว

      i live in texas, so its warm enough to paint 9-10 months out of the year and the 2 colder months there are also days that i could paint. I dont paint everyday, so i would just batch up the work and paint it on the warmer days of the winter. You can heat up the room, head up the items your goign to paint and heat up your paint, and do a quick paint job on something without the exhaust fan on, because that will just pull cold air in. then maybe after the paint has been sprayed and flowed out you can fire up the fan for a couple min to pull the overspray out, then get the heat back on yoru painted items to make sure they cure and flow out... so you have to be creative

    aye Mumbo jumbo, and another thang. You should of put your intake filters to the left and right sides of your diy booth like our freind pete's and many others. NOt the middle......In a side flow booth, the sides form two CURTAINS of air pulling contaminants AWAY from the center and carry them downstream, it's ok though, your still learning. Taking years, but learning. Your ok though, one of my booths is outside and has the whole wall of 20x20 filters like yours but more even in the doors and it's ok for them to get wet. Ive even rinsed them out some times.......wet your floors and wet sweep the water out helps alot

      The lights i got on ebay, honestly i wouldn't buy them again they are very cheaply made, the plastic is very brittle. But, they seem to be working fine and seal up fine. The fan is a Dayton 24" Tubeaxial non direct drive paint booth fan.

    those lights would not pass code for a paint booth, you cant have wires or even the lights them selves in a paint booth, also no fire suppression system. also the fan should have a duct with fire suppression.

    • @dhaley8847
      @dhaley8847 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      yea til some dies in a fire caused by a spark from the wiring and paint fumes! There was a fire at a maaco in richmond va caused by a badly maintained paint booth it happens all the time. This paint booth dosent even have a fire suppression system! So yea nobody gives a shyt as you say until someone dies, dummy!
