They're not designed to fight against melee enemies. The roar is to give the opportunity for quick headshots, which is a godsend on higher difficulties where breaking their shield is an achievement in and of itself lol.
The elites seemed pretty tactical (dodging, moving to a safe distance, throwing grenades) while the brutes always charged them head on. Makes sense that the brutes would start overwhelming the elites as the numbers increased (especially since the hammer has a wider range of effect). Anyway, cool battle Gamecheat! While you're doing Reach, you should do Jackals vs Skirmishers (or Skirmishers vs Drones)! :D

yeah, that sums it up really well. also, elites hide when their shields are down and throw grenades, which the brute heroes never seem to do with hammers, athough they are capable of it.
I'm impressed, was thinking about attempting to describe it myself, but you beat me to it, i sincerely think the owner should pin this comment, for those who want further insight into the technicalities.. Although, i've seen brutes hammer themselves, and their allies, when i lure them into trying, or a bunch of them close together on me, so i think they actually can do that... Granted, this was on firefight mostly, and part of it was from grenades being detonated by the hammer shockwaves.

I hate how the elites spawned on the hill and bridge. Separating themselves in the later rounds would always cost them the victory cause the Brutes would stick together. So many elites getting themselves killed trying to fight 4 brutes at once.
to me it seemed like they just went for an ambush, and left some elites to fight the brutes to get their shields down. they mostly teamed with two or three under the bridge, picking off brutes one by one. also, I thought their grenade throws were great, and their AI makes them hide when their shields are down too. The gravity hammer did become much more effective once numbers started adding up, combined with no friendly fire from hammers, they were good. btw, the brutes can always throw grenades, but the ones with hammers never seem to. also, people seem to mistake these brute hero, for chieftains.
I love the mobility and built of the elites on halo reach very quick like the elites are supposed to be none of that garbage shit in halo 3 - 5 where the elites are bulky and hella slow
Shows me again why i think Halo Reach is the best Halo yet. Both, Brutes and Elites show some big differences, makeing them unique to fight against. In Halo Reach, Elites are alot more agile, fast and accurint. Will Brutes are heavier, sluggish but also more destructive. I know, those differences where already present in Halo 2 and 3. But they nailed it better in Halo Reach, if you ask me.
i think so 2 and think recently they have made elites so weak and wimpy, elites are calculated fighters, not as intelligent as humans but there like samurai almost, and enough intelligence to see through the prophets they're pretty big to, but there not stocky like brutes, there agile, brutes in full stride are probably faster and they are stronger, but elets are still noticeably stronger than spartans, and can definitely hold their own against brutes, power and skill wise and they have tactical advantage even if brutes are stronger, and they have allot of health, in halo 5 and 4 and now halo wars 2 the elets just aren't that threatening anymore, where as in reach you really need 2 people against an elite (legendary) or to have a powerful weapon or stand back if you want to face them, every time you see an elite you have to work out how you're going to kill it, because they can run in or even out maneuver you in an instant, there's nothing wrong with having the powerful brutes in command just don't sacrifice the elites for that.
Well it depends. If I'm an Elite with an energy sword like this video I'll sneak attack and use the energy sword Assassinations for them. If you're talking real life. I would just keep running and juking, hoping the Brutes just get bored and find someone else to kill.

Reach elites were the best and most toughest elites in the halo franchise. 343 industries completely ruined the elite. Elites have always been stronger than brutes and scarier. But ever since 343 took over elites are just as easy to kill as Jackals. Sword elites don't even frighten me on halo 4 and 5. I miss seeing an elite become enraged pulling out his energy sword and roaring to come after you, that's when you knew you had to abandon ship. If you look at Halo wars and Halo reach elites are massive strong and fearless. But check out what 343 industries done to them.. an absolute abomination to my favorite halo species. I hope Bungie one day takes over the halo franchise and fixes what they have done.
But Halo Reach elites move slightly faster compared to your base Spartan-III speed, can now wield Concussion Rifles, Focus Rifles & Plasma Launchers, & Armor Lock your grenades. That's how much more powerful they are in Reach.

+Reverend hogs are cruising along on the highway and swerve to avoid a bunch of moa right around a corner unfortunately the highway is on a cliffside. scorpion drivers are powering behind the hogs and see the moa, thinking the moa are no match for dat 66 tons of HE spewin', dee-vine intervention unfortunately a rockslide occurs right in front of the group of moa milling about said highway, crushing the tanks or at least damaging the treads enough to disable them. _the moa knew all along_
+CheddarBacon Ultras are actually somewhat more challenging than Generals. If you look at their astetics, they look more like the counsilers from Halo 2. Who knows.
+Alejandro MiddleCorn Are you crazy in halo reach the first zealots you fight get 30 shots and all of the ultras you fight only get 20 shots (but for some reason can still take 2 grenades). The only elite ultras that were tougher then zealots were the ones in halo 2 because they had 40 shots and the zealots only had 20. The zealots at autmun had the same health except one had dual wielded pistols and one had 40 shots with a fuel rod gun plus energy sword. By the way the zealot generals had 30 shots as well and they were also better then ultras.

This is pretty interesting. It looks like the Elites generally beat the Brutes one-on-one, but the Brutes stick together more, allowing them to press the advantage more often, which fits the in-game portrayals of the species well. Good design.

you should revive some spartans on lone wolf and see how long they survive, not noble team, just like 10 spartans, maybe some marines, and see how long they can last

Although I like Elites more than Brutes, Brute Chieftains were better as miniboss-like opponents. Making them sticky, supercombine, and overcharged immune was a smart move by Bungie, and there zig-zag strafing during combat with the hammer makes them extremely difficult to snipe.
I liked the challenge and that you couldn't just go and mindlessly shoot everyone without thinking of your approach. As much as I loved Reach, the chieftains were a joke in that game.
Oooooh rigt, I forgot those fuckers were inmune to sticky grenades, that was so unfair. But they are not even the biggest problem, the REAL problem was that they were always surrounded by an insane number of other brutes, you literaly ran out of ammo when you got to face them. I had to escape from the one in crows nest, I spent like an hour in there, after countless deaths I managed to kill like 12 brutes or more (don't know how many they were)and I still had some weapons but they weren't enough the chieftain.
the strongest elites in reach are zealots they changed their armor to purple and they typically have slightly higher health then ultras they dumbed them down from halo 2 cause in halo 2 elite ultras were easily the strongest enemies to fight
Brutes were never as good as elites. If you notice in reach, you only come across around 2 or 3 elites and the rest are grunts and jackals. But when fighting brutes there's about 6 or 7 of them and less grunts and jackals. This shows the brute ai was weaker and more dumb than elites.
Halo 2 and 3 take place a few weeks after reach, cannon speaking the brutes didn't evolve in this small time period, the only difference is in gameplay and different brute factions

That reminds me about Reach planet.. Sangheili Legions Battle First encounter enemies, Jiralhanae Chieftan and Brutes warrior.. then the High Hierarchs and Arbiter_(Halo war 1) Lost too many Elite army's during battle Brutes chieftan and Brutes warrior.. Whatever Arbiter_(Halo War 1) made his choice for killing three prophet of Hierarchs in Halo Timeline.. (meanwhile) the whole Humanity were disappearing and were Not Found in Halo Timeline..
Looked to me like the brutes won more rounds but, the elites one more small scale fights. Elites had better tactics but, brutes seemed a bit luckier and more deadly in numbers.
That is the first time I've ever seen Brutes win lol I like seeing all the different AI's from Halo 2- Reach it is very cool. I want to see the ODST Brutes against Elites next!!!
I love it! Please do more for Halo Reach. Maybe try doing them on different levels or parts of levels to make it more interesting. Maybe mix up the ranks too
i like how the halo 2 manual says that brutes are as smart as the elites while later on in gameplay you find out that this is really far away from the truth
I hate that the Reach Elites only have that one dinky swing with the energy sword for the most part, they lost all their cool sword animations from the original trilogy. It just looks weird having them not lunge at all.
It'd be awesome to see some base defence stuff, for example a fort of marines fending off of various covenant units whilst hunters try and attack their base or something
It seems the elites are missing some of the file animations from halo 3. They only seem to be using a default slash attack. Whereas in halo3 they had a forward thrusting, down-slicing attack.

at least Reach can handle 60 ai at once unlike Halo 4

the strongest elites in reach are zealots they changed their armor to purple and they typically have slightly higher health then ultras they dumbed them down from halo 2 cause in halo 2 elite ultras were easily the strongest enemies to fight
Brutes were never as good as elites. If you notice in reach, you only come across around 2 or 3 elites and the rest are grunts and jackals. But when fighting brutes there's about 6 or 7 of them and less grunts and jackals. This shows the brute ai was weaker and more dumb than elites.
This takes place before Halo 3

Halo 2 and 3 take place a few weeks after reach, cannon speaking the brutes didn't evolve in this small time period, the only difference is in gameplay and different brute factions

Sangheili Legions Battle First encounter enemies, Jiralhanae Chieftan and Brutes warrior.. then the High Hierarchs and Arbiter_(Halo war 1) Lost too many Elite army's during battle Brutes chieftan and Brutes warrior.. Whatever Arbiter_(Halo War 1) made his choice for killing three prophet of Hierarchs in Halo Timeline.. (meanwhile) the whole Humanity were disappearing and were Not Found in Halo Timeline..

Looked to me like the brutes won more rounds but, the elites one more small scale fights. Elites had better tactics but, brutes seemed a bit luckier and more deadly in numbers.

The elite ultra was always my favorite design and rank for an elite! That & the elite warrior in halo 4.

Elite AI is much smarter than the brute AI.
However, the brutes have more raw power.

I love it! Please do more for Halo Reach. Maybe try doing them on different levels or parts of levels to make it more interesting. Maybe mix up the ranks too

I hate that the Reach Elites only have that one dinky swing with the energy sword for the most part, they lost all their cool sword animations from the original trilogy. It just looks weird having them not lunge at all.
