  • Santa Cruz (Spanish for 'Holy Cross') is the county seat and largest city of Santa Cruz County, California. As of 2019, the U.S. Census Bureau estimated Santa Cruz's population at 64,608.
Situated on the northern edge of Monterey Bay, about 32 mi (51 km) south of San Jose and 75 mi (120 km) south of San Francisco, the city is part of the 12-county San Jose-San Francisco-Oakland Combined Statistical Area.
Santa Cruz is known for its moderate climate, natural environment, coastline, redwood forests, alternative community lifestyles, and socially liberal leanings. It is also home to the University of California, Santa Cruz, a premier research institution and educational hub, as well as the Santa Cruz Beach Boardwalk, an oceanfront amusement park operating continuously since 1907.
The present-day site of Santa Cruz was the location of Spanish settlement beginning in 1791, including Mission Santa Cruz and the pueblo of Branciforte. The City of Santa Cruz was incorporated in 1866 and chartered in April 1876. Important early industries included lumber, gunpowder, lime and agriculture. Late in the 19th century, Santa Cruz established itself as a beach resort community.

SC Local here - cool vid and all, but how you gonna do a video on Santa Cruz and then go ahead and leave out nearly EVERYTHING we're famous for lol! Ya know, the beach; West Cliff & East Cliff, the SC Boardwalk, the SC Wharf, the Surf Museum, Longs Marine Lab (you came within feet of LML at the end, too), UCSC, Downtown SC (I mean sure, you spent a second downtown, but that was it) etc etc etc.
Maybe/if there is a next time - don't just drive up and down Ocean and Mission St the entire time? Santa Cruz has so much amazing and beautiful sites, yet you sadly missed 99% of them Lol! No hate or disrespect, btw, just some legit and constructive criticism is all 👍🏽

Well he showed the SC I've known so well since the 1980's. Haven't been to the Boardwalk since the mid 1990's and did the Cliff Drive thing back in the 1980's. Something I think Santa Barbara does better.
Pacific Ave was closed to traffic the day he drove around so he could not drive down that. So he did Cedar and Front.
Absolutely love SC but still really miss India Joze (the original one that closed in the '90's), Cafe Pergolesi (spent so many afternoons on the deck outside over the decades) and buying so many great books in Logos and the Literary Guillotine bookstores. All gone.
Well at least you can still get a good sandwich for lunch in Zocolis and sit outside and watch the world go by.

@@kbezier7484 No. Just, no. Pac Ave being closed doesn't negate a single word I said. He still missed the majority of what makes SC unique, regardless of how homogenized, sadly sterile and weird/dumb your view of our town is (which really sounds like a made up BS story anyways, frankly, given how out of date all your goofy, tourist-esque references are).
      Cool story, though, I guess

@@paynekiller75 I've been a very regular visitor to SC since the mid 1980's. With quite a few friends from there over the years. How long have you actually lived there? Do you really live there? Or do you actually live over 17 in SJ somewhere? Like Sunnyvale. Because that's what you sound like.
Pretty much all the places you mentioned are basically tourist spots. No different from someone saying the "real" San Francisco was Fishermans Wharf. That stupid. The places you mentioned are not the places the locals hang out in. At least the locals I have known for many decades.
This video is more the "real" SC than the tourist spots you mentioned. Which is why these dash-cam videos are so interesting. For people who actually know these places well. Plenty of "Tourist Spots" videos on youtube. Maybe you should go watch those instead.
Yeah sure. I know nothing about current SC. Like why Pergolesi went out of business a few years ago and why the pizza place that was to replace it did not work out. Did they ever sell the building? Is that a recent enough SC reference for you? Want to discuss the current City Hall politics of Pacific Ave? Not a lot has changed since most of the businesses were in marquees after Loma Prieta. In 1989. Way before your time I suspect. Its the same old same old. A SC tradition that never changes.
To anyone who has n't visited Santa Cruz. You definitely should go. Its a great place to visit and still one of the most unique small coastal cities in California. The home of the Banana Slugs..
And yes, I do know how they got that name. Do you?
So stopping copping an attitude. Santa Cruz is a fantastic little city so stop sounding like such a d*ck about it.
