      @@GROWSOMETHINGGREENtoday Thank you too! By the way, I was thinking about repotting my mint from its claying soil to a more loamy one. I watched your other video on mint hoping to see how you might split up a mint plant but it never happened! Do you have any tips or suggestions for that?

    • @GROWSOMETHINGGREENtoday
      @GROWSOMETHINGGREENtoday  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      If your pot is badly tangled in anyway..what u could do is soak in water so your soil can loosen out and then its easier for you to split them up. So long their stems hv roots mint can regrow back very quickly. So loosen up the soil and single out stems or sections with roots n plant them back into new soil. Water regularly by keeping soil moist...Put away from direct sun or harsh temperature for 2 to 3 days..then they be good to go out again

      But I succeeded after trying the water bottle method. When roots started to form, I planted them in soil. 2 out of 20 survived, and after a few months, these two started invading my gardnlen.
      My advice to you is to plant as many as you can. Eventually, some will survive.

    Once a year I trim low and let my pot dry out, then don’t water it for a week till the nest like bottom stems have dried, then I light it on fire 🔥, couple minutes then water to put out anything still burning, they come back and my nest mess is cleaned up. The ash probably good for it too, so it seems, no knowledge of science behind it to support, just my observation.

    Hey there! I tried growing mint trice and they all died. The first two i realised that it overwatered during the rainy season simply because the ony place i have on the porch with bright light is too near to the rain gutter.
    So the third time i put it on my backyard where it got bright indirect evening light. I put it right next to my thriving basil plant and only watered once and yet 2-3 days later i noticed the crown started to become black and affected stem would have wilted leaves. The soil is still moist so i ignored the plant. 2 days later, plant got worse so i quickly took it from the pot to check if got root rot.
    Overall root was fine. Only the crown turn black so i divide the plant, removed any dead stem, use hydrogen peroxide and repot again the remaining plant with healthy crown with fresh potting mix. And it still died.
    I don't understand how this happen. I gave them the same care that i gave to my basil and yet they have different outcome eventhough technically they're from the same family species.
    Since you're fellow Malaysian, maybe you know few tips on how to properly grow mint in Malaysian wheather. I really appreciate your advise. Pleaseeee help me growing mint too 😭😭😭

      Hi. Mint needs a bright spot like full sun :). You may want to consider moving it out to full sun area. But avoid one directional light like sun coming through directly one way. For watering and potting medium...go with well draining soil. My pot will get full sun and once a day deep watering. Do give tht a try

      @@thereerhunter2314 one TBSP yeast, 2 TBS sugar and a 5 gallon bucket of water. Now Fill the 5 gallon bucket with water. Take about a quart of that water and mix in the sugar and yeast. Let sit covered lightly for 24 hours. Not tight because it rises and will pop the lid off. Pour that mixture back into the 5 gallon bucket. Stir well.
      Feed each plant one cup of the mixture twice a month.
      Helps keep pests away and feeds the plant. I learned this from another Gardner here on TH-cam. I tried it and omg I was amazed. Results for growth and green leaves within 2 days and I don’t see any more pests around the plants. Can’t hurt to give it a try. Yeast is very beneficial to plants.

    This is so exaggerated. We have about 23 varieties of mint in our garden. Only 2 or 3 of them tend to grow out fast, the rest is slow and certainly not as strong as most native weeds. Even mentha Aquatica which is native where we live is not that invasive. It stays in areas about 3 square meters per family, never beyond that. Mint is not invasive. It hardly ever spreads through seeds, and the only way it propagates is when it has space and sufficient nutrients for itself.

    use TEXT TO SPEECH generic voices wow this is so hard to watch and why so much emphasis on cutting it back i get it it's like strawberry plants and no it's never been a dream to grow mint i'm only growing it because it's supposed to keep some pests away and you know what i want it to grow everywhere as long as it does deal with some pests (i can let it grow everywhere because of where i'm growing it).
