Been using your videos on beginner trails as a guide for trails for my gravel bike! so thankful for someone like you who posts videos. It’s easy to find trails on Stava/ride with gps, but to actually SEE the trails in a video format before heading out is so damn helpful.
I’ve spent all this money on different apps to get good beginner trails, and so far, all the absolute best trails I’ve discovered through your channel! So thank you & keep them coming! ❤️
Appreciate the time and effort you put in to your videos and sharing the joys of mountain biking. For a beginner rider like myself in the San Diego area this information is gold! Keep up the great work 👍
I started mountain biking in Penasquitos. A lot of people do. There's an astonishing number of trails out there even despite all the construction is going on
Thank you for your time and effort on these vids, not only am I getting back into a mtb from a 15yr hiatus, I am doing so being new to the area as well, your work has been an immense resource!
THANK YOU SO MUCH for posting this review. Just learning mountain biking in SD, and planning to ride the trails in PQ soon. Really calms any concerns I have by being able to do a sneak preview "ride" through this video.
No worries! That's kind of the goal of the channel. I love previewing trails when I go to new places, so I thought I would put together something for San Diego.
Thanks again. I followed your Strava route this morning. 👍As a beginner ride I must say. Some trails were a bit challenging, but it was fun. We enjoyed it. On the way back. There were just so many hikers all in a group with dogs not on a leash too🤨
That middle section definitely gets a little technical, and it could put some beginners on the edge of their comfort zone. It's a hiker heavy area for sure, and that's a bummer about the dogs off leash. I try not to ride there on the weekends, and I bet today was just as crazy. I'm glad you were able to ride it!
Nice vid. Your 5 year old is a pro for riding to where you said you turn with them, kudos. Family riding together, or hiking together is always awesome and uplifting to see.
Nice little video - thanks.. I ride to here a fair amount as it is a just few miles from my house. You REALLY need a bell at RPQ. Lots of families or groups walking/hiking out there and even if you politely ding your starting a few hundred feet out they still don't quite get it. Especially that young kid who darts in front of you at the last second. Happened last time I was there - almost took him out and I slowed significantly for the hikers. Just need to be careful.
The bell is definitely a necessity out there. especially on the main trail. Once you get into the hills a little, it's not as hiker heavy, but a bell is still a good idea.
@@Giovanni6501 Cool. I went out yesterday and hit a bunch of the trails on my list. Little and Big Waimea are next. I think I might try to get an afternoon ride in at some point for those.
Great Channel. I recommended it to the beginners in a group I ride with. I've actually used you're Mount Laguna rides for myself. The section with the bridges is probably a little over the skill set of many beginners but they should have the good common sense to get off. If we think that a beginner is a pretty strong Rider we will take them up power line to the Mesa, do the single-track, and come down cobbles. Keep up the good work
Thanks! I think the rocky section in the middle may be a little advanced for some beginners, too. As long as people ride within their limits, they should be fine.
@@MTBTrailReview well I totally lied. We took some beginners out that way in the vast majority of them rode everything. They walked the rocks but one got ahead of herself and rode it before she knew what she was doing. They even did the whoops except of course the great big one at the very end
@@foxykc I think it all depend on the beginner. I've ridden with guys that have never been mountain biking and dropped into a black without a second thought, and others that didn't even want to go in the dirt.
I start at that trailhead now, since the one at Sorrento Valley no longer opens early. I ride PQ when I don't feel like driving to Cleveland National Forest.
@@MTBTrailReview if you do tunnels, there are alternate ways back up to the Mesa. The one I use has to go west in Deer Canyon and then come up switchbacks. There's other stuff down in that area that I haven't done and it would be good to see what that what that stuff is
This video brings back a ton of memories. Some 20 plus years ago, I'd ride my GIANT ATX 990 John Tomac Full Suspension Bike through this course with either my friends or my son. Always had a blast and this course opened my eyes towards the fun of mountain biking. Los Penasquitos is a great beginner course and always a great course to ride with friends that just want to have fun. Thanks for posting.

@@MTBTrailReview - You’re awesome! Thanks! 👍
Thank u! Im a newbie, this helps so much 🚲
Of course! Check out Otay Lakes next. It's a great place to progress as a new rider.

Live in SD and your videos help me a lot with discovering new MB trails
That's great to hear! That's pretty much the reason are started the channel.

Great videos ! Do you recommend Trek 820 as a starter MTB ?
It's a great bike to get stared, but you'll be pretty limited in the trails you can ride as you progress.

Oh geez I'm just remembering how disgustingly hot and muggy that September was now.
I like the weather a lot better right now.

So many fun trails at PQ with very little climbing involved. Cobbles/The Sh!ts/Tunnels and possibly Little Wamea!
I haven't done Little Waimea yet, but I've done the rest. I need to explore the western end of the trail system a little more.
@@MTBTrailReview Little Waimea is great if you connect it with the little jump line from Hopper. Big Waimea is fun, but it's VERY rutted.

This looks like a good video. I'll have to check out more of your stuff. I ride Orange County and Big Bear, but I'd like to start heading south soon.
