We go to Costco and Trader Joe's in this video. We bring 8 of our kids along with us: Elijah (17) Naomi (14) Noah (12) Anna (11) Chloe (9) Enoch (6) Melody (4) and Moses (age 1)
This weeks meal plan:
Monday: Tuna Melts, Dinner: Fettucine Alfredo and Broccoli
Tuesday: Chilaquiles, Dinner: (4th of July) Hot Dogs, Potato Salad, Corn, Green Salad, Watermelon, Cake, Root Beer Floats
Wednesday: Pasta Marinera, Dinner: Chile and Corn Bread
Thursday: Baked Potatoes with Bacon, Lettuce and Tomato, Dinner: Lasagna, Baguette and Salad
Friday: Fresh Mozzarella Sandwiches, Dinner: Salmon, beets, Cous Cous, Arugula
Saturday: Sandwiches, (Ham & Cheese) Chips, Juice, Watermelon, Dinner: Chicken Legs, Artichokes, Harvest Blend
Sunday: Shish Kebabs & Rice, Dinner: Bean and Meat Nachos

Awesome parents teaching their children the skills they will need to navigate this big world once on their own... So many parents cripple their children by doing everything for them... Then they go out into the world knowing nothing about shopping, budget's, nutrition or even how to care for a home on their own... I just found this family and I'm loving binge watching all the videos ❤❤

Amber, when you said Spanish Harlem, it reminded me of the song by Ben E King, "There is a Rose in Spanish Harlem." It's about a rose that grows through the concrete in the city, always shaded from the sun. The singer is enchanted by this beautiful flower and dreams of taking it to his garden. I look forward to your shopping hauls every week. I love how the kids prance off to the food court and get their pizza or whatever they decide to eat. Such a joy to see kids so well behaved, especially in these days and time. I am going to have to go to Trader Joes. I have never been there and so many people say they really like it. I used to put my 3 in one cart and had a 2nd cart for groceries. They had me put some lighter but bulkier groceries like paper towels in the cart with them and they loved to hide under them and pop up to ‘surprise’ other shoppers. Fun memories.
Fun fact about butter, it’s similar to wine in that what goes into the cow affects the cream, the time of year, there’s a lot of things that can affect the quality of butter. I’m from PA so at a young age we get spoiled with what super fresh good butter tastes like, and grass fed from the markets is pretty close.

My favored times with you all is when the Family go's grocery shopping at Costco and Trader Joe's even Target. I Like seeing the Kido's ask Mom for their snacks and getting to sample all the samples they like to try. And when Mo wants to help with holding the items to put them in the cart. Or when SWEET MELODY asks Mommy so politely if she can have something she wants. Or when Melody wants to hold the bags as a big girl to be with Chloe and Anna in the group. She's so Cute. I have no idea how you can afford groceries 😔. Most of my kids are grown and living on their own. I only have 2 at home now plus my uncle so for 5 of us my groceries with inflation are about $250 a week. I used to be able to get a week's worth of groceries for $140. Love all your videos 💜 can't wait for the next one.
Were in Alaska. Family of 6 with a $200 weekly budget. Our food budget has not changed even through pandemic or inflation.
Yes! Inflation has really been surprising. Also the local grocery stores around here don’t have deals because the rent for the stores and cost of labor is really high. I imagine things may go down in price. (At least I’m hoping so!)
@@kaylamorse769prices must not have gone up where u are. I think my issue is a lot of the off brand items are no longer available or hard to find. I'm also finding fresh veggies are not lasting more than a day or two I don't know why. So I make multiple trips in a week. Never had that issue before.
If you are concerned about the asparagus going bad trim the bottoms and put in glass jar with a bit of water in and lightly cover with a bag

The same goes for fresh cilantro. I cover the jar with a thin produce bag and place a rubber band over it leaving plenty of room at the top. They will last one to two weeks!

Im a fragrance free girl too! Ii like very faint, very particular fragrances. Very few scents, so I like that don’t give me sinus issues or headache. . I’ve only ever worn Jessica McClintock perfume, since high school.
I only wear it on special occasions and it’s a tiny mist that I spray and walk through. Lol
I hear you can get a hot dog and drink for $1.50 there. Not sure if they charge that in NYC, but I hope so. Sounds like a deal and I hear it’s a good hot dog.

Maybe having your Baker picking out a recipe, and then writeing out her own list, then discuss with you or Dad, then do all the shopping for it. She is not learning the most important skill of planning the cost. Just my opinion. Seems so confusing for everyone. I love that x

You might want to look into food boats instead of paper plates. They seem to be cheaper and you get more .
What are food boats?
@@monahardy978 the disposable paper concession trays you might get your hot dog or nachos served on. They come in various sizes and can hold 2-3 lbs of food depending on size. They are more economical to purchase for snacks and simple meals.
When a child is not in cart , and your putting groceries in the seat , where child sits , just raise seat part , and it’s safer so your can and glass food may not fall out , it covers where the child legs hang out !
I can’t stand food shopping but I like to watch large family do a weekly shop 😂

My family,( from California), use to steam them then serve with aioli-style dip. We would peel off the outer leaves, dip it, then scrape the yummy,” meat” with our teeth, eventually reaching the heart!

I do sew some but Pearl actually is much better than me and will often make clothes for the other kids.
How do keep all the fruit and veg fresh along with the bread and usual items that need to be in the fridge/freezer
Bread gets bad in the freezer.. makes the bread hard
It’s pretty tricky because we just have one normal sized fridge so we have to plan well.

We don’t have a Walmart here. We do have a Target. The food prices at Target are higher though usually. Although we can find some unique products there.

I think in order to answer that question. You have to know what you are actually asking. Are you asking if that's too high of a price for what they paid? Or is that too high for a week's worth of groceries for 10 people? You really can't use that figure for a week's worth of groceries because they went to another store in which I believed it was over three hundred dollars.
Could be worse? $1000/week is pretty high.

OMG, you probably spent more on bread and chocolate than most families spend on all their groceries. Most people don't buy all premium products.
Trader Joe’s bread and chocolate is actually very reasonably priced at least for this city. At our local supermarket, the price is much higher.

It appears that way and they dont seem to look for specials plus the kids add to the shopping cart without a worry. Its mind boggling to say the least.

Unfortunately in NYC there are not any specials. The local stores don’t have any unfortunately. I think the rent for the stores and the cost of labor here is too high for stores to offer deals.
When I go shopping it takes a few hours to make the list. Because I try to go through the ads to see what is special and then put them on the list if it's something that can be part of a meal for the week. Then I look to see online what electronic coupons I have. The store that I shop at sends me coupons so I matched the coupons with whatever is on sale and then I do most of my shopping on the first Wednesday of the month and yet the senior ten percent discount. The last time I went shopping. The bill was over a $160 and $70 of that was taken off the bill, and I saved almost fifty percent of the original bill. So are you saying you don't have anything like that?
No there are no flyers or coupons here. I’m not sure why. In California we always had that.
With inflation how do u survive...?...you must be very wealthy to afford so many children n a weekly high food budget..... plus all the extras like health insurance.... Etc......God forbid our economy doesn't tank n prices go up even higher....you live a risky life....😱
I wondered the same thing as when husband was not working $9000 rent monthly and $4000 groceries without anything else they advised they were living on savings ummmm!

I think a lot us have some of the same questions, just curious without judging. I think she'll come on and answer these questions because she's pretty good at addressing such issues.

Plus remember they also have Utilities, car rego and insurance, maintenance and gas, kids clothing and shoes. I cannot fathom it out som thing does not add up. They don’t seem to do Crockpot meals etc but can utilise two packets of Salmon.
