  • Easily create photorealistic and reflective puddles using 3D elements in Photoshop! Learn how to use 3D maps and the Vanishing Point filter to apply puddles into perspective, and then use layer masking and adjustments to create lifelike reflections.

      Me too. I was making an artwork a while back and during the editing process I kept looking at it and thinking how a puddle would make it look so much better but I didn't know how to do it.

    Such a great tutorial as always. I think as an added step particularly for a scene like this is to maybe somehow make a selection of the grooves in the brick pathway there, and add just a little bit of it to the puddle map like maybe just along some of the edges of the brighter areas. Because as we know if there are grooves in the bricks, there will be water following along the lines of the grooves at least somewhat.

    Thank you so much! I so love your lessons.
    I want to supplement it if u may. Any surface (especially glass, water and etc.) have a mirroring effect that depends of angel of your looking. If its perpendicular (90' for example) the surface looks like surface (for example it takes shadows), but if your look's angel is sharp enough - surface transforms into mirror. Less angel -> more mirroring effect.
    It works not only with surface like water. For example if you look in sunny day to your windowsill with different angles u will see this effect (especially if its flat and white).
    It also works well with shallow puddles. Puddles under your feet almost haven't mirroring, but if u look at it 10 steps back it will be almost 100% mirror.

    This is really good thank you. I think the only thing missing is a slight transform warp on the reflection to match the bottom edges in perspective, rather than a straight up reflect.
