      We were saying afterwards how happy we were with how it went. Mike really knocked the ball out the park and went in to so much detail, felt like I’d been on a mini type rating! Glad you found it educational!

    This was a great stream... I learned so much.
    I used to work as entry into service lead for one of the first five airlines to introduce the 787 into service. Those were crazy times with a lot of new things and issues to deal with. Working with Boeing and the other suppliers was great and I have lots of fond memories working on the 787 (despite all the teething problems). The 787 has a special place in my heart because of that.

      That's so cool! Like with any type there will always be issues, one thing I learnt from Mike is the huge amount of computing power required for the 787 to operate, makes the NG look ancient!

    What a brilliant fascinating stream, thankyou so much! It struck me watching this that I grew up in the 80s 90s. Had flight sims, basic, but fun. I would have loved to have had access to real world pilots to ask questions. No Internet or youtube obviously. I basically had to work it out for myself. Flippin amazing, thanks for spending the time Gents!

    This was such an incredible stream filled with deep intellectual content and experience from two great Captains. Mike brought such a depth to the 787 that I have had to go back to basics and re-learn based on his experience and forget everything I thought I had learned ;) . Really hope to see you two great Captains take the 787 across the pond doing a shared cockpit. What a wonderful experience that would be.

    On Boeing philosophy being consistent. I would argue that this changed with the 737 Max. Boeing has always put the pilot in control of how the airplane does certain things. With the Max and the MCAS they made a huge change that was quite evident to me. Before the Max if the pilot wanted to get back in control of the aircraft all they would have to do is take the yoke and move it and answer the autopilot disconnect warning and they were in control of the aircraft. With the MCAS that was not the case. The pilots who crashed ended up fighting with the aircraft and very confused about why it was trying to nose down. By Boeing not telling pilots of this major change they literally killed people.

    When on stand do you have to pay for the amount of ground power you use (as in is it metered) or is it all included in the landing and airport fees.........Great stream, thanks to you and Mike.

    • @flightdeck2sim
      @flightdeck2sim  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Good question! Airlines have contracts with airports which will include the use of GPU/ground services. Interestingly if a GPU is not available we have a toggle in the flight log to report it, I'd take an educated guess that some sort of refund is received if no power is available.

  • @mwcalder95
    @mwcalder95 ปีที่แล้ว

    Awesome stream! Would’ve loved to see you update the cost index mid-stream to see if it amended anything - next time!
    Also, is the 787’s FBW the same as an airbus? Ie. No trim - just point and shoot? Or like a 737 just with no cables
    Also, would love to see a couple of circuits and landing with Mike putting through your paces and learning more about the HUD!

    • @ARandom777
      @ARandom777 ปีที่แล้ว

      Not like Airbus. Like previous Boeing's. It's speed stable FBW like the 777. You have to manually trim in the pitch axis but you trim for a certain airspeed to be kept as opposed to directly moving the stabilizer in flight in normal mode (in secondary and direct mode you directly move the stabilizer). Pitch inputs commands a pitch rate at low speeds and G load at higher speeds. Artificial force feedback provided. The Dreamliner in normal mode commands a roll rate like Airbus (the FBW 777 doesn't), allowing the plane to respond the same rate in roll control response, regardless of airspeed, weight or altitude and will maintain the bank when the yoke is centered.

  • @fn0rd-f5o

    @hevoksimpilot6359 ปีที่แล้ว

    Thanks to this stream I've flown 4 legs without issue in the 787 (and I'm an Airbus guy, imagine that!). So thank you, véry informative.
    Automatic descending at TOD works, I assume this was hotfixed. One other thing I noticed is that I have to trim the plane just after takeoff to keep the nose low when the airplane wants to gain speed. I did not expect this as the plane is supposed to be fly-by-wire?

    • @flightdeck2sim
      @flightdeck2sim  ปีที่แล้ว

      Glad you enjoyed the stream! From my understanding the trim system works by trimming for a reference speed. You need to trim out the forces with changes in speed but this only requires one push of the trim switch and the forces will be removed.
