Honestly this was an amazing battle with no true clear cut winner. They are both on another level musically and I'm a 101 Alumni.

W to the fans, L to the rest of the bands in the SWAC
I was there. These videos don't do justice to how clear the Boom sounded. You could hear the layers of instruments. You heard the woodwinds from across the field loud and clear. It was so beautiful. SU sounded amazing as usual. But, these two programs are the pinnacle of HBCU bands. No winner or loser. Just excellence.
It’s something about southern that’s not the same anymore and I don’t get as excited with them anymore but JSU has came up to prove that size don’t mean a thing
Same for me ... Every since the euphos im like " meh " imo nothing beats how dark those aggressive b-tones under screaming trumpets produced ... Now its like one extremely huge trumpet section ! " meh "
JSU isn't that much smaller. They are crammed into a small corner in Mumford
When JSU play its just make my heart drop ..when they cut off the beat the tuba goinging in hard and every one playing ,but when su play they just sound like one big as speaker sitting on the stadium that give me all the feeling in what I’m looking for they both good but I love they way JSU arrangements are in music if su could go like that some times it would be a killing ..😂💯💗
Best two bands in the land. SU trumpets will always be louder because there's more of them, but JSU has a great trumpet section this year as well. I enjoyed JSU a little better based off song selection and arrangements in zero and 5th quarters. JSU's last song in the 5th quarter was appropriately named KILLSHOT.
Our tpet section has ALWAYS been louder. Even well before the bigger sections.

Are you Serious? I know they’re obviously gonna be louder if they’re 3x the size of JSU trumpets. In 2008 they were even so that was my point of reference.

12:03....I’m speechless. JSU came prepared and played their own game. Their compositions, like SU, was composed to bring out their best sound. Best battle I’ve seen thus far. If only JSU can be consistent like this year after year, then I’d make JSU SU’s only rival. Outside of that, SU is King.

I so enjoy when both JSU and SU bands match-up. The energy that both bands provide the viewing audience is unsurpassed... Of course, I am a proud product of "Thee" Jackson State University's "Sonic Boom of the South"... Now, I do have my personal viewpoints, but my passion for great musical energy is unbias.

honestly SU didn't kick JSU ass it was neck & neck. I'm a fan of Southern so yes I'll give them the edge but JSU handled bizz.. Both bands on their A game

Ok I’m a fan of both bands. They both were bringing the heat. I give a very slight edge to The Boom for song selection and musical technicality. I take nothing away from the Human Jukebox. I just guess it was The Boom’s day for a change. Love you both. Keep HBCU Bands relevant and entertaining. BEHOLD!
Jsu W ..... Its tough to compete with a band that is built on their lower brass in particular trombones and bass horns
JSU got the "W" for me! It's just something about their energy and sound. My goodness the TUBBBAAAAAS SHEEESH!! They aren't human lol! JSU's Fans are always locked in too! It's just a complete vibe.
JSU Tuba section is all time greats...hall of fame tuba section. They been holding number 1 for so long...jsu please bring back those mellos from 2017!!! And one more row of trumpets!! That's the ONLY WAY 2 hang with SU ...SU is the ultimate alliance...listen 2 them...omg...

Who won or loss will always depend on WHO'S LISTENING. So many opinions...lol. I personally listen/judge based on sound quality, arrangement/song selection, and how well they were performed. Thanks again for the vids.

(I was at this game) JSU was bringing 💨🔥 oh most definitely, but they were inconsistent it was more misses than hits ..SU was consistently getting on they ass. SU owned this entire game.

People out here confusing "Technicality" with "Musicality" JSU wins because nobody in their band sacrifices tone for Volume / literally every section in the band is tighter than SU's entire band. SU Plays high and bright and flashy, and if you watch the section fanfares, its just more proof that JSU is prepared. SU aint a marching band, they a marching BRAND.

I believe Su...one thing I've noticed about Su, they sound strong from the beginning till 1 or 2 hours after games are over. And if you listen real good Jsu starts off loud/strong then tappers off. Jsu tubes stayed strong, but the rest of their band seems to get lower with each song.

I was at this game, and given this was my first JSU vs Southern game as a JSU student, I think this is one of the best Zero Quarter Boombox Classics to listen to💯, I listen to this when on a regular or when doing homework etc... The Boom still got that DUB though Lol
Su 🎺 s phi d 1995. They need to put the bands directly in front of each other. The camera and therefore muc is closer to su. Thats why jsu tubas so much louder. Closer to camera and all on one side. Others instruments playing straight ahead. Anyway You can tell difference in raw sound hitting mic vs. From side. Peace.

Why is SU toying with J-State. That "Through the Wire" was too much. The trumpet parts taking it to the next level. JSU doesnt have the upper brass to compete.
