Stayed there couple of months ago. Although I didn’t eat at their restaurants, we enjoyed our three nights there. We had upgrade for the corner roomier room with beautiful views of the city.
you have much better the reception experience at MO KL than my experience with MO Singapore when I was send to hot outdoor pool to wait for my room without any drink voucher offering
I think the voucher here was bc I booked with AMEX FHR and they didn’t have the room ready early. They didn’t mention that specifically though. Thanks for watching 🙏🏻
Aaah ... the pool at MOKL. One of my favourite places on this planet. I've stayed there half a dozen times and just seeing the footage makes me relax. It's worth paying for the club rooms - the lounge is really nice, the food / wine / cocktails are great and so is the service. I think your "upgrade" was a downgrade, the park view is much better. The pool deck view and the adjacent mall with an MRT station in the basement makes the location unbeatable in KL.
@@StrikerTube Rooms that include access to the lounge on the 26th floor. The lounge has great views and serves breakfast, lunch, afternoon tea and canapes cocktails and wine in the evening.
@@StrikerTube I have stayed at MOKL 6 times but my last visit was 2018. Always enjoyed it, I find it very relaxing, and the staff are lovely. The park view rooms are the best. I prefer to have breakfast in the club lounge than in the restaurant on the lobby level. Is the variety of dishes at breakfast on a par with MOHK or The Line at the Shangri-La in Singapore ... no, but the breakfast is still really good. Along with the staff, the best things about MOKL are the pool deck and the location. I think there is a Four Seasons across the other side of the park now which is probably worth a look and being new won't have many wear + tear issues in the rooms. Either way, Malaysia is and always has been a bargain, it is a wonderful country, and the food is second to none. We just got back from Pangkor Laut a few weeks ago. Enjoy your trip.
Surprised at that lowish, breakfast-included room rate - and some of the food offering is reasonably-priced too. Biggest surprises? The journey-time from KLIA and that wonderful back-garden. I would consider staying here when I'm next in KL. P.S. Just back from re-viewing some of your Rio videos. I'll compliment you on your very tidy playlists.
So happy you are back in the Far East!!! Somehow all the resorts and hotels have this “je ne sais quoi” that makes them feel extra luxurious and as a guest you feel extra special 🥰 Heading to Bali end of April and re watching your reviews there to make up my mind where to stay 🎉 Thank you for another wonderful video! 🙏🏼
Yes I agree hotels on this side of the world just seem to understand (and anticipate) the guest experience better. I’ll also be back in Bali in the spring but won’t have the new videos out in time for your trip 😅 Thanks as always for watching 🙏🏻
I think MO group in early days in Asia were luxury but not the Ultra luxury hotels which start in early 2000s with glitzy ads featuring Movie stars with NYC London Barcelona etc. See the difference in their property in KL, Jakarta,SG which are luxury business hotels completely has different vibes vs NYC, London etc. Thus it also translates why Jakarta and KL properties charge $150 for rooms vs $500-1000 for London NYC.
It also has to do with the market and the owners. The company-owned MO Bangkok is one of their flagships and commands rates in the $500-1000 range, the same for MO Hong Kong. In fact, I don't like MO as much as FS due to this large variation in the quality of their hotels.
Thanks for the review of an interesting MO property. Very strange to see the brand at this price point, offering facilities and service that are in keeping with the price but not the brand. Came to your channel via Bali videos. Love to see your thoughts on St Regis Nusa Dua and a few more Ubud properties, when you can :) Thanks!
I stayed here for 4 nights a couple months ago and pretty much agree with everything you covered here. Fantastic location, nice pool, dated rooms, sufficient breakfast, and average service. I also booked with Amex FHR and thought it was a great value. I had no issues booking the spa appointment though. Scheduled a much needed massage after a trip to the Batu Caves.
@@worldtraveler8372 I don't remember exactly but I chose the service that was as close to $100 as possible, but slightly over in order to get the $100 spa credit.
I agree with your opiniom, whether you get room even for free, for a class like Mandarin Oriental they 100% should fix all the oldish furnitures for the sake of Mandarin Oriental. I often find myself not treated the same when I dine with voucher, although i got it from gift after bought branded items.
Hey Kev, been a subscriber for a while, and this review was incredibly informative. Going to be in Singapore for an extended Eid holiday next week, so I'm making plans for a weekend visit to Kuala Lumpur since its a short flight away, and it has a Hard Rock Cafe so I can get more stuff for my international HRC collection. Also looking at the Intercontinental, but having viewed many, many of your vids, I'll go with this and make certain to ask for a park view room. Being from NYC, I'd much rather see greenery than more buildings.
Sure… hard to forget a handle like get2dachopper hahaha. For the right price the MO is fine especially if the location suits you well. Enjoy the trip and Eid Mubarak 🙏🏻
Another great review as always. A little surprised Mandarin Oriental would let their standard slip despite the pricing. On a side note FF do you use a phone and gimbal? Smooth camerawork.
A decade ago, I loved this hotel - mostly for the breakfast buffet. Even then, the room rates were very reasonable for the overall quality of the hotel. It's fun to see that there is a whole new class of properties that outstrip this (still fine) property. Hey Kevin, you've probably left KL by now but on your next visit please review the EQ Kuala Lumpur. I've seen architectural videos that show spectacular interior design. I think you'd have fun creating your own walkthrough.
Thanks for the video! So you said the MO isn’t the best that KL has to offer so I’m curious what other hotels would you recommend? I’m a huge fan of the MO (no pun intended to their loyalty program) but your video and other reviews are making me look elsewhere for my upcoming stay, mainly the Shangri-La, Grand Hyatt, and Westin Anyways, I’m curious where else you would recommend staying? Thanks.
Looks like MO properties in SE Asia (well at least KL, SG and Jakarta) have very similar issues….their saving grace are the location and legendary service….however, that didnt seem to be the case for MOKL, which is rather disappointing I really can’t wait for them to upgrade these properties
We often see reviews of hotels but rarely covers “Club Lounges” facilities. Considering most hotels / resorts are offering Club Rooms/Suites, this is surely a growing trend. With most of your mid-high end hotel / resort reviews, I’m inclined to assume your target audience is the more affluent “Club” travelers
At the end of the day, the vast majority of guests at any hotel/resort are not staying in club level rooms (and many of them that are received the privilege because of status). Often they represent a poor value for most guests. When they are a small incremental charge, then I consider them in the same way I would consider any other room category- based on what I think the overall best value is. Thanks for watching 🙏🏻
@@tfft Leading Hotels Chains collectively only constitute to less the 20%. If vast majority is your target audience then better review Oyo Chain, motels or 2-3 Stars which is more than 2/3 global hotels. The incremental cost of Leading Hotels rates is significantly more compared to aforementioned hotels, so they have even better value as most travelers spends a majority of day time outside visiting or tending to business. Never mind the fastest growing sector Digital Nomads (35 Mils) or Business Travelers (2/3 global occupancy) that would appreciate a conducive Club Lounge facilities environment. Of coz its also totally fine to just review like the other hundreds, if not thousands, TH-cam Hotels reviewers sharing their same perspectives. All the best in growing your Channel.👍🏼
Well the clubs are nice and all, but for me it is not worth it, I only book rooms with them, when I plan on staying in the hotel rather then exploring the city. Which is not that often. Sometimes I book rooms with lounge access and dont even visit the lounge. So not really worth it for me. If I was travelling for work, I would probably use them.
The problem with this Mandarin Oriental Kuala Lumpur is too family friendly. Not sure because the families are well off or what, kids were not as discipline (probably kids are under care of care takers) there were constant children running around in the lobby area, restaurant area in the breakfast hours. The club lounge mare supposed not to be used by children under 12, but parents do bring them in anyway and let them have free access to everything. This makes the club lounge a joke for business people and people who paid more for quietness so they can work, relax or conduct businesses. Also see that there are local couples bringing in 3 young kids, all staying in one room. For survival the hotel accepts clients that will damage the property and ambience and thus the brand, management needs to rethink about their business strategies.
Definitely dated, but for the price can't really complain. The pool area was striking in that old cushions, mildew all over the place etc. Need to replace the cushions and a good power wash
I stayed there for 2 nights in 2022. The bed sheets were torn with holes. But you won't see it as the broken part of the sheet was tucked in underneath the mattress. Bathroom features are really really tired. I won't dare to use or even step into the bathtub at all. Overall this is a hotel that has long passed its glorified days. I wouldn't stay there again even though it's very cheap. BTW, you pay peanuts money, you will get monkey. It's fair in some way.
I am living here in KL. I ve stayed in the MO before and it was a complete shit-show to be honest. The gym is fantastic though. I prefer the FS, but the pool is not as great over there.
