You can't really escape the high costs of living in Singapore, it is either you keep up or you can't survive, need money for everything, so work till you die, very stressful. Bcs of our weak currency. Altho our currency is gradually weakening, our inflation is not as high as the western countries (UK/US/Europe) hence why prices are not going up rapidly and that tourists with strong currencies can benefit greatly from our weak currency.
Currency manipulation and government subsidies. The MYR is deliberately not pegged to USD. Malaysia advantages to other countries is how developed yet affordable it is, the government knew this of course, and that's why MYR is kept at a low rate.

I was in KL last September, stayed for a week in a hotel overlooking Masjed Jamek 😍. Thanks for this video. Wish I can visit this beautiful city again 😊
@@ZubZubi Yes the hotels can be cheap but the service is often appalling. It can be nice but KL is dirty, smelly, noisy and dangerous. Malaysia lacks any history and this makes it unique in south east Asia.
@@byteme9718 Kuala Lumpur has much better quality hotels and far greater cleanliness than Manila, Jakarta and most other cities in Southeast Asia. That's why it's the 6th most visited city in the world ahead of New York and many other European cities.
Back in the 80's, as a high school student in Canada, Kuala Lumpur was one of those magical sounding cities in the "orient". I've never been there but this video sure gives a good view of it! And what crazy cheap prices!! $28 USD for that hotel?? That's a cardboard box in most other countries.
Back in the late 70s and 80s, students from malaysia went to canada for tertiary education. At the university in Canada, they were asked by canadians..." do you live in trees?" Malaysia then is under rated, unpopular, never heard of...🙂😄 But we malaysians dont mind what foreigners think of us.
Malaysia has been a middle income country since 1979...but it's trapped in it for 40 yrs now, reaching only high middle income status for quite a while now. The positive side is since it hasn't climbed the value chain to become a high income developed country, everything is still relatively cheap while giving a high standard of living on parity with the current level of purchasing power. When I was an engineering student in London in the late 1970s, my Bangladeshi landlord couldn't believe it when I told him that we make washing machines and air conditioners etc at home in Malaysia at that time. Thank god he never thought we made them on trees 🤣
Cause you are looking at it from your Canada point of view, it's expensive for locals and frankly it's not that cheap, have seen 60-100$ per night. Which is of course still ultra cheap for luxury that is 1000$ elsewhere.
We are very happy when Arabs come here, We are brothers of one faith and one blood in Islam, Omanis were also instrumental in spreading Islam in Malaysia, Singapore and Indonesia
Glad you enjoyed your stay and thank you for this wonderful video! I'm born and raised in Kuala Lumpur and I think it's one of the best cities in the world with something to offer for everyone. It really is a melting pot of cultures and races. All the major races (Malay, Chinese & Indians) live in harmony and indulge in each other's cultures (mostly bonded by food!). Almost everyone is friendly and love tourists who come to visit our beautiful country. Hope you come back to Malaysia again and explore other cities outside of Kuala Lumpur! We have beautiful beaches (Langkawi, Perhentian, Pangkor, Redang, Tioman, East Malaysia), wonderful quaint towns (Ipoh, Penang, Melaka) and so much more!
Ringitt was purposefully underrated, as the country is not a West supporter. I live in Australia and go to Malaysia about once or twice a year and I can tell hands down that lifestyle in Malaysia is far ahead and more manageable compared to anywhere in the EU, AU or US. Malaysia is one country where a layperson lives a reasonably luxurious life. 3 bedroom houses and apartments are the norm and it is common to find triple-story houses. Every family has as many cars as the number of adult members.
Hi Paddy, I've watched pretty much all of your travel videos, and i have to say that the quality and production of the last few series has been immense. MALAYSIA 🇲🇾 IS THE BEST PLACE IN ASIA 🌏 IT'S BEAUTIFUL CITY LIKE LITTLE NYC 👍
You should visit this beautiful country
Government subsidies of RM80 billion.
Welcome to my city. The most underrated, unknown, un-popular, most ignored and sometimes hated too...but I don't give a damn bahaha. Love it that way. The lesser visitors the better. We're Asia's best kept secret. Shhhhhhh don't tell anyone about KL. Enjoy your stay.
KL is the 6th most visited city in the world though
Lived there for close to 3 years and loved every bit of that time. Beautiful city to live
Lucky you, looks like a great city to spend time in.
Where did you migrate from?
I love KL. Used to go to Sg and KL very often before the pandemic, only an hour flight from Phnom Penh, and also very affordable.
Me too. And Bangkok is about 90 minutes.
As an Indonesian Kuala Lumpur kinda feels like Jakarta but in the best way possible, I'd say my city has things to learn from KL. Love from Indonesia btw!

It's a bit underrated really - not a lot of people think about the city when talking about holiday destinations.
Never judge a city by cherry picked highlights.
MALAYSIA 🇲🇾 IS THE BEST PLACE IN ASIA 🌏 AND BEAUTIFUL CHEAP 5 STAR HOTELS 🏨
@@ZubZubi Yes the hotels can be cheap but the service is often appalling. It can be nice but KL is dirty, smelly, noisy and dangerous. Malaysia lacks any history and this makes it unique in south east Asia.
@@byteme9718 Kuala Lumpur has much better quality hotels and far greater cleanliness than Manila, Jakarta and most other cities in Southeast Asia. That's why it's the 6th most visited city in the world ahead of New York and many other European cities.
I love Kuala Lampur. It's one of my favorite Asian cities.
At the university in Canada, they were asked by canadians..." do you live in trees?"
Malaysia then is under rated, unpopular, never heard of...🙂😄
But we malaysians dont mind what foreigners think of us.
The Name of the Hotel you stay for 28$? Looks nice

We have beautiful beaches (Langkawi, Perhentian, Pangkor, Redang, Tioman, East Malaysia), wonderful quaint towns (Ipoh, Penang, Melaka) and so much more!
hello ..
This video brought back all the good memories I had from living in Malaysia. Thank you mate.
I love your narrative documentary of KL video. It's great to promote our Malaysia's capital KL. Keep it up
Ringitt was purposefully underrated, as the country is not a West supporter. Every family has as many cars as the number of adult members.
yeah in one family it is normal to have 2-4 cars, our petrol is cheap and we produce our own car
@@grunpycat5237I'm from the UK, and my uncle used to have a proton car.

And if you live outside KL maybe about an hour away you will have more space & land. I'm 1 of them!
Hi Paddy, I've watched pretty much all of your travel videos, and i have to say that the quality and production of the last few series has been immense. I've watched many TV travel shows over the years and yours are up there with the very best. All without a film crew, producers, and script editors. You should be very proud of your work, I'm sure people don't realise how much sheer effort goes into making a 20 minute video, and it's 100% your own work.
Fantastic stuff!
Exactly. To think the amount of editing & fact checking he needs to do before putting up a whole video on pretty much every aspect people wanted to see is amazing work no doubt
