Wonderful boombox, impressive electronics. Taking nothing away from this beauty, let me mention/remind about the unique feature of the GE 3-5268A- it is the only Superadio boombox, and the only Superadio in stereo. While cassettes are largely obsolete (this from a person who owns 5 Nakamichi cassette decks), superior radio reception and tuning remains a powerful advantage and a factor in why I'd still rather have a 5268A... Thanks for posting a video of this cool/ultra rare boombox
@@80s_Boombox_Collector You are a lucky man to also have a 5268- how often do you run across one for sale? Took me years to find one... I do like the speaker hookups on this model better than the 5268- having a coax speaker plug socket soldered directly on the PC board lead to a "cold" solder joint on one channel, and a need for epoxy to stabilize both jacks. The speakers on this "Pioneer-made" unit look amazing. However, I don't know that I love the LED VU meters, I prefer the analog needles as they look less "disco." Thanks!
@@wheelhorseman2306 I see the 5268 on Ebay maybe once every 3 or 4 months. And yeah mine has the issue with the speaker jacks too. Probably because the previous owner allowed them to rub against a wall or something. They should have made the plugs 90 degrees to protect them better. I'll need to go inside and fix that, but I really don't enjoy working on 3-piece boxes.
Just from peering through the vents at the internals, looks like a high quality piece. Pretty much like a nice bookshelf system you can put batteries in. Very nice.
I had one very similar to this one. It was a GE that had removable speakers and the tuner/equalizer separated from the CD player. It had a 5 band equalizer and presets for the radio. It used the same ribbon cable connecting the components as the one this video. I bought it with money from my first job from a close out/discount store called Odd Lots. The sound was fantastic. I used it for many years until the amplifier began to fail probably due to capacitors. I regret getting rid of it. I have never seen another one like it. The one in the video is the closest I have found.
@@80s_Boombox_Collector they were different. They were were a two way ported style made of mdf which was one of the reasons I bought the system. Most boom box speakers I had seen at that time were plastic and didn’t sound that good (I could be wrong, I was a dumb 18 year old kid.) After some googling, I found pics of a Sanyo c30 which had very similar speakers. My system used a ribbon cable to connect the d player to the tuner/amplifier. It had a similar connection for a cassette deck. With no internet at the time, trying to locate the cassette deck was impossible. I contacted GE and was told that part of their business was sold to Thompson Electric (if I remember correctly.) My unit began suffering from poor audio quality and the digital tuner ram was forgetting the settings every time I turned it off. I got rid of it 10 or 12 years back. Now that I see how rare they are, I regret not keeping it.
Use to have this and the silver model, they were amazing! Very loud and great bass. Used to plug in a portable cd player to record on cassettes. Cassettes would always record so clear too!
@@80s_Boombox_Collectorhonestly I’m not sure what brand the silver one was. I was so young back then. But we’re almost identical. Someone has one for sale online right now for $100
Jeez that's a beast, funnily I've never really considered anything with detachable speakers as a boombox more a portable hifi system , does it run off batteries or just mains powered, nice tho I really like that 👌 where do you find your stuff
@@80s_Boombox_Collector durr sorry blonde moment 🙄 that's really nice digging the planet rock too are all the speakers powered or any passive I want it lol you have a nice collection I'm envious 👍
@@doodsydoodsy5370 I haven't seen inside the speakers, so I don't know if any are passive. This thing sounds very good though, it shows what's possible when you put some quality into the circuitry and the amplifier. This is not your typical cheap plastic boombox.
he brought this system outside i said hott damm now thats tha deal lol!!!!!!made by pioneer well it brought ge all the way to top ge goes all the back to the 1930s they've been major electrical maker of everything from turbunes to tvs what a power house this stereo is!!!

Hmm, did the speakers look like this, or different?

When you say the silver model, you mean the Pioneer?

And sadly, GE got out of the boombox business only a year or two after making this unit.
Anyone knows the first song I forgot the name of the group?
Everything She Wants (Egyptian Lover)
e muito lindo
i like it...super
Мощный аппарат 👍
I have the Pioneer version of this! The surrounds are rotted though 😪
Yes. It is a PIONEER.
Có bán không bạn ơi
Does the GE CR-55 have two woofers or a woofer and a passive radiator?
I'm not sure, I haven't opened it up yet
@@80s_Boombox_Collector OK. Sure.

George mic and whamm everything she wants???
Yes
it's broken because George Micheal sound like a robot.
👍🇷🇺
More like a rip off version of the pioneer .
I doubt it. Way easier to purchase the parts than to design and fabricate them yourself.
Os aparelhos são bons e bonitos, mas...
Mas os usuários só tocam músicas porcarias.
Não conhecem músicas, péssimo gosto musical!
As pessoas não ouvem Mozart em um boombox.
