I had a bumper rechromed for my AMC AMX a few years ago. I was shocked on how expensive it was however when it came back it was so perfect it made it all worth while. I never really understood why it was so expensive. Now I see how much work actually goes into that process, it gives me a real appreciation for the craftsmanship in this process to archive these results.
Would love to see a proper close up of the surface finish before the coppering to give us an idea of the depth of scratches/sanding marks/level of polishing that copper can fill . It would be a terrific guide to what the copper can/cannot fill. For that matter close ups of the finishes at each stage. Regardless, fantastic content once again. You have assembled a highly skilled crew of craftsmen at your premises.
5:10 “You can’t do this with a big tool, because you would end up wrapping the radiator shell around the spindle”. True, and I bet there’s a history behind that statement…
Well I learned something, lead can be plated over. I never knew that. My TF shell was in worse shape than this and the plater did a wonderful job bringing it back.
Another astonishing and informative video. This is a must see for anyone contemplating this process! Thank you and well done. Please let us know how many hours were involved.
Hello, Very interesting and informative videos!! I have a question. Can you plate nickel straight over brass without using copper as a strike?. Do the zinc in the brass mean that a copper strike is required over brass? Thanks for the advice and great videos

Happy you enjoyed the video
Great vid. Top marks to the narrator for sounding like Baldric too.
Fantastic, would be great to see the customers reaction to the transformation.
It would, but most of them wouldn't like me sticking a camera in their face.
The fineness in the hammer blows, blows me out.
True craftsman at work.
Thank you so much for sharing.... I had no idea this craft was so involved.
Very welcome

Yes. You have to be very aware of what you are doing
What an incredible process
It would very much help to know the cost of this job!

Thank you very much! Not exactly sure how many hours were taken up. The restoration took place over several days.

When you “blast those oxides from the surface” are you reversing the polarity compared to plating?
Yes
it's a wonder anyone can afford to have one of these restored! :)
so chrome plating is a bit of misnomer... in that what we see is the nickel plating?
Correct 👍
No, chrome is the outer layer, the very metal we do see and it has a slightly different color than the nickel under it.
gee... i'll bet THAT isn't very expensive! ha
bmw e23 kidney grille can't chrome !!!
Needs better lighting.
Thanks for the feedback. Completely agree. This was filmed before we bought some lights to improve the footage.
