  • I use adapters to turn my 1960’s fighter pilot helmet into headphones. I use it with a handheld radio (not transmitting only listening), an early 2000’s MP3 player, and show how I use it to play on MSFS in VR.
    Adapters used:
    MG-14 to GA: marvgolden.com...
GA to TRRS radio adapter: www.mypilotsto...
    TRRS to TRS: a.co/d/cquwZHC
I’m sure there is a better Easier way to do this but, this is what I had on hand to play with.

    Ahh TH-cam never fails.
I knew somebody figured out how to hook up a fighter pilots helmet to a mp3 3.5 jack. You rock!

That's actually pretty sick, you should make a video showing a sound test on how the mic pics up on your PC

There’s a usb to GA audio adapter that I use to connect my GA headset for radio communication, then use my built in audio to play the plane sounds on speakers for the ultimate immersion

This was a really enjoyable video, great work.
Would you mind some constructive feedback? Would be great if you could have briefly explained the differences in the pins (what they do, L/R,Mic, GND etc) for each adaptor / pin, maybe flash a brief diagram on the screen as some B-roll? Just something done in MS Paint would have been sufficient to give it higher production value. And most of all - get yourself a cheap phone tripod to record hands free!
Really did enjoy the content. Would love to support smaller YT creators. Have given you a sub - most interesting! Thanks.

Feedback alway welcome! Good points for sure! Yeah I am not the best at filming working on it though. Thank you!

That setup is from the 80s. But still valid 🤙

As someone into headphones I came for the lols while eating lunch... I was not dissappointed and properly amazed and entertained by the end. Dude, that setup is sick. Does the HTC Vive fit reasonably well over the helmet? I'm curious how the sound quality of the helmet holds up compared to modern headphones... but that doesn't really matter, does it? Having that face mask with the blood, sweat and tears of the previous pilot(s) on there right in front of one's face seems rather disgusting though.
Also I was not at all surprised that you are using a Zune and have what seems to be a telegraph key on your desk.

So I have cleaned the helmet so that’s not an issue lol. It originally belonged to a family member who was a AF pilot. As for how the vibe fits. I put it on first then put the helmet over top of the cables and straps. It not comfortable for long use but not bad for short term use. Audio quality is what I would describe as fair. These thing were never meant to be high quality head phones. They were meant for intercom and radio use. As such there is almost no bass and it can be tin sounding. It’s ok enough for me to use it happily though.

Do you know what would be used for quarter inch aviation to aux? my helmet is a really obscure Gentex model and came with an equally obscure cable. it looks about the same diameter as quarter inch but nowhere near the same length. its for low speed fixed wing aircraft and its headphones are attached just by the cloth with no molded shell attached to the rest of the helmet, its early to mid 60's I believe, I say this because I forget the name of the helmet right now.

I’ll be honest not sure what your talking about. Gentex made a ton of helmets types. Are talking about a cloth style helmet like a cap with gear attached?
