Omgosh Alison growing up I heard of the Fairs, but I never knew anyone who actually went to the Ren. Fairs. But I lived next to Ojai Calif. which is basically a year round Ren Fair. This is yet another side of you!
I took a friend to the market we bought the whole fish. We made things with it. I don’t think she will ever repeat the process again. I’m adventurous in the kitchen. I love eating. Love cooking. Love watching home movies 😘 I would grill a whole fish but my condo won’t allow a grill. No lie!🙌🏻🍷🐠
You're the first American I've ever seen eating flesh out of fish head. I appreciate you show how great tasting and meaty fish head is. Very educational showing how to enjoy fish as a whole.
@@The_Beast_666 I am an American and I just want to show appreciation to her that she awakens there are chunks of tasty morsel that is missing in every pieces of fish filet in the supermarket.
It's very common in the states. it's not "restaurant style" unless you go to an ethnic restaurant, but it's very common among southern cultures and within our immigrant communities.
I was a "late bloomer" to the olive world and now I have no idea how I went so long without them in my life. Cucumber and olive? Never would have crossed my mind but now I'm intrigued by the "mash up". This is why I admire your talent.
Everybody waits for Home Movies every Tuesday. Everybody loves seeing you cooking on every Tuesday. I loved the fish and all of the sides to go with. Fish is always the answer to what to cook and is so tasty and light and perfect for a summer meal.Thank you, Alison, you are my favorite!! Yes l will grill a whole fish. Maybe a tuna or salmon. Maybe both.
It's winter here I'm Australia. But I'm going to be grilling fish so I can have my summer moment with you! Love love LOVE your casual nature and easy going recipes. They make me feel like I can achieve anything ❤️
I just love how much personality the video has just by the way it’s edited! Also Home Movie Tuesday is like the good old times waiting for a whole week to watch a new episode 😍♥️
I am also a longtime “whole fish” aficionado, and hope this converts others!! Seriously it’s the most high impact for low effort dinner party main in the world
Omg, I live in Helsinki and I was walking in my hallway and looked out the window and saw my neighbor was watching your videos on TH-cam on the tv! We love you out here! ❤️
Alison! Thank you so much for teaching us how to cook and how to LIKE to cook, rather than demonstrating how to follow a recipe. I watch every episode even if it's something I'm not planning to make because I learn so much every time that I can apply to other things I invent in the kitchen. Please keep making home movies forever.
It’s almost scary how timely your videos are. Literally last night I told my husband I wanted to try grilling not just fish but specifically branzino. Same thing happened to me back in April/May when I wanted to make strawberry shortcake, and with eggplant parm. Crazy relevant recipes! And your take on these dishes is always delicious! Thank you! Can’t wait to try this one!
Am I the only one that was waiting for a Home Movie this past Tuesday? I hope Alison is on vacation (which is something we all deserve)! If so, you go girl!
Excellent video as always. Can't wait to try everything. I usually like to crush my cucumbers by telling them they will never be good enough to be pickles.
I've always loved what you do with the fish. I wish we took photos of that whole red snapper you made a few weeks back at the house. The lemon sauce is also now a stable that crosses over to other dishes.
We have great fish here in the Pacific Northwest. It’s fresh, it comes from clean cold waters. Thank you for this video. I’m sending it to my daughter to introduce her to your videos and remind her she’s getting salmon tonight!
I didnt know it was the David show. I love Alison's quirkiness and that's probably why I am so obsessed with this channel. She can educate me on how horoscopes tie in with cooking.
We have the same grill - Can't live without it! In the winter its the first path cleared - Seasons don't and should not matter when you have a grill. 🥂
Slightly hungover following my birthday festivities (got both your cookbooks for my birthday as requested), I braved my local 'Seafood City' to buy my first whole fish to make this for dinner last night. It was just as special as you described so thanks for inspiring me and pushing me outside my cooking comfort zone. My boyfriend is a Chef and originally from NW France so he grew up eating whole fish and way more "exotic" things than I did growing up in Texas. Bonus: I feel cool & now have leftover orzo, tomatoes and cucumber salad for lunch today.
I’m gonna be rewatching this like crazy lol 😂. And I looooove olives I have them tatted on me along with some other randomness. In a perfect world I’ll add okra to the piece one day. Any way this video made me happy lol. Thanks for the recipe and hilarious video.
SE Asian native here - we use banana leaves to wrap the fishes and grill them, whether on the grill, on the pan or directly on the stove. It keeps the fish intact, the moist and much easier to handle, consume and clean. Which I might try the recipe because it looked very easy with very simple ingredients.
I want to THANK YOU for inspiring me to use more HERBS. I now buy multiple parsley and cilantro bunches and use them every day, in salads, overtop meats, fish, you name it. You're the best. Thank you, Alison for sharing with us each week, Q. for you- can you share what one gets for your paid subscription, and how it is renewed? What is your cancellation policy, etc? I could not find that anywhere....
I had always wanted to grill a whole fish but was way intimidated, but thanks to this video I've made this exaaaact meal many times now, including the day after this video came out...I had immediate confidence after watching, woo! It's really the best, everything goes together so well. I'm making it again tomorrow and just can't wait. Thank you for your recipes!!
Branzino tastes beautiful oven roasted as well! A hack that I learned is that you can "stand" up the fish on its belly by balancing it with lemon wedges or cherry tomatoes so that both sides of the fish get crispy while cooking.
My family has always grilled whole trout with lemons and parsley. We even have special fischzangen.. A kind of double sided wire in fish form , that hold the fish together while on the grill so nothing can fall out. Absolutely love it and taking the fish apart myself, is actually one of my favorite food related things to do, or teach guests, that are unsure. Loved this video. Now wishing for nicer weather for grilling😊
0:35 The ultimate moment of truth when David made you laugh! Hats off to David for being so witty and that beautiful laugh when you said gr.... ahaha oh God!
I love grilling fish. I usually add an onion, pepper, zucchini, corn on the cob, etc. Everything on the grill. It's easy clean up and the flavor is great.
Your recipes are always awesome but I especially love the amount of interaction with the crew, it makes it feel more like you are just having us over to hang
I love olives too, but my husband does not. I've tried forever to get him to like them, but he doesn't, so when I cook, I rarely use them. Maybe, you have to grow up eating them, not sure. I just got one of your books for my birthday. My sister asked me what I wanted and that's what I asked for. Thank you so much for your videos and books:0)
I used to despise olives until my husband and I went to an Italian restaurant and they served freshly toasted crispy fluffy bread with finely chopped olives in olive oil. I thought they were mushrooms for a year! I now tolerate it on pizza. My mom also made a Middle Eastern lamb in gravy that had preserved lemons and olives, and it made the olive taste milder.
Grilled some beautiful whole rainbow trout last night inspired by this video using your instructions and WOW! It was so delicious and really special to share with friends. Love your videos!
Hello Alison and associates! I love your enchantment with Renaissance Faires. What a refreshing video. I am going to try this technique with branzinos. So healthy and so were the sides. I was surprised how touched I felt when you were sitting out in the rain and waxed nostalgic about everyone deserving this experience. Diana Ross and the Supremes 🎊 it is so obvious that these videos reflect your true personality. Thank you. Many blessings to you.
I went to the Renaissance Festival here in Minneapolis in maybe 1979. I’m still not over the fear of it all. And then there were those gigantic turkey legs. So truthfully, a whole fish seems pretty easy and relaxing and fun. ❤️ And the term “chaotic flexibility” is now how I’m going to always explain my life. Should have know this 40 years ago.
Olives are absolutely the one food i cannot live without, since i was a child i have had a love for them that knows no bounds. When i tell people this they look at me like i am insane😂
I just finished watching this video, the first one from your channel and I’m already inloved 😍 so effortless, fresh, funny, easy, nice, and I love your accent too.
What a fantastic video. I think next Christmas you should do a "Feast of the Seven Fishes"-themed video--would be the perfect antidote to the endless videos about Christmas roasts, Christmas turkeys, hams, etc.
Oh my God!!! My husband loved this and he hates fish with bones🤣🤣 I made the recipe exactly as you taught us and I am right now finishing the feta🤤🤤🤤 Thank you for being you and for sharing with us!!! I grilled the fish in our grill at 10 degrees F in Chicago🤣🤣🤣
Your recipes are always bomb + your throws with the cameraman are always so funny but nothing’s the same without that “window and plants” I STILL LOVE YOUR VIDEOS THOUGH it might take time for me to get used to this new set.
Reminds me of Keith Floyd wrapping a lemon-and-thyme stuffed trout in newspaper, wetting it under the tap and then into the oven until the newspaper is dry signalling that the fish is done. "I use the Times," he would say between sips of wine.
Omg, I felt so seen when the blurb about the pot boiling over came up 🤣. My nerves were ramping up til then...then I laughed way too hard. Thanks for that and the great recipe!
Just wanted to say I made a variation of this meal with the orzo salad, the olivies and cukes, but did your lamb shoulder with garlicky tomatoes from Nothing Fancy (with a side of labneh and pita) instead of the fish and it was *chef's kiss*! Def will be trying the full branzino in the future.
Thank you for watching! Are you going to grill a whole fish this summer? Lie to me and say you’re going to!
I'm gonna grill two! I'm an overachiever lol
Omgosh Alison growing up I heard of the Fairs, but I never knew anyone who actually went to the Ren. Fairs. But I lived next to Ojai Calif. which is basically a year round Ren Fair. This is yet another side of you!
grill four!!!

Food is symbolic of love when words are inadequate. When you eat food with your family and friends, it always tastes better! Love from Korea🇰🇷💕

Yesss Alison whole fish with bone in!!! I love grilling fish. It’s quick, effortless yet gorgeous and tasty!
Also I am in support of an “on location” series!! Vlog style! I don’t think Allison would ever agree but I’d definitely watch!

Hello, how are you doing?
Such a tease with the salads. I so came for the fish but stayed because you're my youtube crush.
I grew up eating steamed whole fish with sesame oil and scallion, and it was amazingly tender and flavorful.
Okay, this is the best copy show I have found on TH-cam! Your so cute and funny!

Hello, how are you doing?
Just made some preserved lemons...so easy, I love them!
Hemingway tells us to distrust adjectives but in Alison's videos, they work pretty well and usually come in triplets.

as Indonesian, this is a very clean and neat grilled fish... i would go crazy with seasoning, keep the bone etc... I love the salad ideas!
