You are always so informative. The relationship you have with your bees is really cool. You always say excuse me bee,or hey bee your stealing the shot. I hope to be that comfortable and respectful around bees. Keep up the great vids!!!!!

My 2 year old Granddaughter is fascinated by the purple flowers of deadnettle. After eating some blossoms we checked to find they are not poisonous. Now we are trying to teach our aspiring beekeeper she cannot pet the honeybees in her backyard.
Pop, however can hang a swarm box!

This looks like a good strong hive. But if you would not have re-queened it that would not have been the case. And that new box looks like it should do pretty well. Thanks for sharing.

Yesterday our one State of Ohio inspector checked out my friends Apiary and mine. Both passed, yeh. My friend hives already had drone cells. None of my 3 hives did. She checked 5 of my friends 12 hives. Now we can sell bees etc.

Henbit is the same plant as dead nettle, Latium amplexicaule. I don’t remember which video you showed it on, but they are the same plant. I thought of it today when I was out walking but I watched several of your videos in a row. Have a great weekend!

They are very often confused as they are in the same family and look similar from a distance but they are 2 different plants. This is a good video that describes the difference. th-cam.com/video/ibJNeo0hHyo/w-d-xo.html

That's a lot of pollen. If it weren't so cool I would say you should try rearing queens. Nice video.

I am really skeptical of these new hive systems. One of the beauties of the Langstroth system is its standardization. A proprietary design locks you in to the manufacturer until it is adopted as a standard. They may work well but are expensive. And what do you do if the manufacturer goes bust?

Some days my hives are not nice at all, some days they're so sweet they'll rot your teeth. Except "the mean hive" you know that one hive in the yard you purposefully save for last, yeah that queens days are numbered... literally.. There's a nice fat queen cell just waiting.

6:55 saw some diseased larvae and at 7:01 a melted one. Is this something they'll clean up you think? I'm second year but my first year involved a bad nuc with chalkbrood, sacbrood and EFB. Or maybe I'm wrong? I'm still learning

    • @kamonreynolds

Hey Kamon, I distributed excess honey frames to those that were light a week ago. At what point do you think I should start feeding 1:1 syrup. I keep a honey super on each hive during the winter and would like to pull them off. I'm in SC. Thanks for all you do for us.
    Hope

Safety First says the OSHA man, don't play in the creek, you might drown! Don't climb that tree, you might fall! Don't run with those scissors, you'll stab yourself! Don't ride your bike on the road, you might get hit by a car! Don't fly a kite, you might get electrocuted! Don't eat those lemon drops, you might get choked! And by all means, don't shoot that BB gun you'll put your eye out!
I don't know how we survived to adulthood not knowing all that crap! A kid can't even ride a bike now unless they've got a motorcycle helmet on. AND NO, I never knew a kid that suffered an irreparable brain injury riding a bicycle!
Safety, safety, safety....it's the new age mantra and a person...let alone a kid, can't enjoy themselves for being reminded of the dangers of breathing without an oxygen mask on.
Go back inside, sit on the couch, play video games and eat granola bars and organic milk.....playing with bees is just too hazardous for most folks!

I noticed you mentioned the dead nettle plant. I have both dead nettle and hens bet . Can you tell me do they produce a nice amount of nectar or mostly pollen?? I am in West close to the Tennessee border.

    • @kamonreynolds
      @kamonreynolds  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

Hi robert they produce more pollen than they do nectar but I think they do produce a small amount of nectar.

Kamon, great videos. I’m also in Tennessee. Could you touch on when the first honey flow is and when it stops? I’ve tried to find online schedules but can’t find anything great. NASA has a cool site. www.honeybeenet.gsfc.nasa.gov Also could you touch on pollen vs. honey flow? Does one mean the other?
