I'm too late to get one, unfortunately., but I certainly want to play this game! Any plan on how much it will cost when you release it? (Also will OS X be supported?)
They were gone fast! Maybe next time you'll catch one ;) Regarding the price, I'm aiming for around $5 USD, but it's not set in stone yet. As for OS X support, I can't confirm anything at the moment. Windows and Linux will be supported, but making the game compatible with macOS requires navigating some specific requirements from Apple, like certifications, which can be tricky. Since I'm a solo developer juggling a lot of tasks, I need to prioritize, but I'll keep it in mind. Thanks for your interest!
Wow this looks so great, I'm really sad I wasn't recommended this early enough to get a working key. The gameplay reminds me a bit like feed the deep and the visual style really makes me want to try it out even more. You really nailed the pixelated artstyle while making it look so good aaa
Yes I do miss them, that's why I am also making a 2D mining game with in fact many similarities to your take on the idea! I'm liking the simple art style you got going, seems like a coherent game already with plenty of potential!
This video was an incredibly quick jump from extremely simple graphics with fairly simple gameplay, to an incredibly polished game with a lot of mechanics and gorgeous visuals just twenty seconds later! Threw me for a loop! The game looks amazing! Excellent work, keep going!
Love this! There's no better reason to make a game than simply wishing more games like it existed. Also, this video brought back memories of an extremely obscure Dig Dug rip-off called Tunnel Blaster that I played when I was a kid - and like you said, the beauty of the game was in its simplicity. Best of luck with this project, and I'm excited to see where it goes!
This looks so so cool, very excited to play once it's out. The simple pixel art style really works for this style of game, I think it's really cool! Best of luck for pushing towards release!
This looks so fun!! I can't wait to try it - the art is so cute and nostalgic. I'd love to see a return of the gem thief! Maybe with some sort of scarecrow or magical alarm system that can be armed to give the player more time between raids. Keep up the good work!!!
this is really cool I like the art style a lot and it looks genuinely fun. I have been watching videos of people making their own games because I am working on one myself.
If you like these types of games you might wanna give aground a shot. While it becomes a bit less mining-focused late game, the crafting system is really fun and it’s a lot of fun learning all of the game’s secrets.
The art style is great! Only thing I'd touch up on is the particle effects (explosions/dust), I feel like they don't yet fit perfectly. But overall, this already looks very polished. I also like the king mechanic, neat idea!
ur game looks fun! I was kinda worried at first, because u shown clips with the camera super zoomed in, but the way it actually looks is good for me. Wishlisted and will be buying it if it comes out. I never ever played a mining game but I'm willing to give yours a try
One thing that I like to do when prototyping is to use emojis as placeholder graphics, so at least my prototypes don't look so ugly, and I don't waste time making placeholders LOL
particle effects and smoke effects are fun, but they can clash a bit when you're working with pixel art styles like this. the puff clouds and the smoke coming from some elements specifically distracted me a bit, especially because they look like a much higher resolution compared to the low-pixel environments and characters.
Should add a mechanic where the player is rewarded for collecting as much as possible all at once (maybe they are collected a sort of magical shards that needs to be dumped into the furnace all at once to fuse into a gem, the more shards dumped at once the larger and more valuable the gem) but also could be killed and lose everything (the shards are very unstable) they've collected since the last time they returned to the surface. This adds an interesting element of risk management and a natural difficulty curve, since the deeper you go the harder it would be to get back out without dying or falling to your death but also more skilled players are rewarded more for their ability to handle more risk.
I don't remember those classics but I remember a called "Block Miner" in which you played as some kind of mice or something and I digged and levelled up to unlock better pickaxes. It was online you could play together and show your world to others and build.
Maybe someones already suggested it but I think it would be a lot nicer if the tribute system worked in a day system. you have X amount of time each day to get the ore to the king, any extra can be upgrades. Kinda like the system in lethal company.
makes me want to dredge up my old concept for a casual mining game on an asteroid. i also remember a flash game of the same genre, i wonder if i can find it

What a good video, you just got yourself a new player. But I suggest you change your store thumbnail. It's too generic, it looks like premade asset. Change it to match you game graphics style like pixelart. It will attract more players.
looks fun, cant wait to see more from you :) i recommend checking out below the stone if you havent already, its not your classic sideview mining game, but it might provide some inspiration :D this might also be against the simple core gameplay youre going for, but having some random caves (you do have that but like... bigger), structures, diff biomes and stuff to explore would make the game more fun, but thats just imo :D
Yeah, I tried the demo of Below the Stone, and it's really cool! Definitely more combat-oriented than my game, though. As for the random caves and biomes... I already have some simple "natural caves" that get generated randomly each run. It's not too complex yet, but it's there! Different biomes sound awesome, but they would require a lot of additional assets and code. I don't want the game's scope to get out of control, at least for now. Thanks for your feedback! :)
@@LudiminalGames you do have caves and its neat! my idea w biomes and bigger caves is more for if u want some more exploration or something, but if its not the core of your game thats perfectly fine :D i definitely dont want to cause any scope creep or make u add stuff u dont want in ur game, what u have rn is great as it is :) also you nailed the art, absolutely love the aesthetic
Ok, big brother is definitely watching me. I just started trying to make motherload over the weekend using html canvas and then this pops up in my feed …
Another retro-inspired mining game I have seen (but not tried so I can't vouch for it exactly) is Murtop. Your game definitely is different and has a unique hook - but that's a modern indie game you might like given the kind of game you are interested in and are making.
i know it would make everything way more complicated, and also its very late into development already, but making it so that the king starts chasing you through the mines when he runs out of patience instead of just being a flat game over, would be very fun. also introduces replayability as people may purposefully run his patience out and then try to out-run the king through the mines lol
That's a really interesting idea! It reminds me of how Spelunky handles shopkeepers (you can choose to steal from them, but then you have to deal with their hostility for the rest of the run). I can't make any promises, but I'll definitely think about whether I can add something like that to my game. Thanks for the suggestion!
Wow. Awesome. I've been trying to find a mining game that I like for a bit, maybe this will be it? Depends on how many different ores/gems/treasures there's going to be. I love museums and collections for the most part, but aside from Stardew valley there hasn't really been a game where mining features those sorts of collectables/collection-mechanic, as far as I know. Mostly it's just 5-10 kinda of ores, and/or a lot of focus on the topside instead of the underground... But yeah, this game doesn't have to be that of course, it's all up to the creators vision! Also scope creep. Collection mechanics might be a lotta work, idk. Wishing all the best with game development! But if there are any connoisseurs of mining games seeing this comment, if you know of a mining game with a lot of collectibles, then please do share the name. It could be a mod of minecraft or terraria or something too. Would love to hear some more experienced opinions on mining games :D
Oh yes, I wanted to add that the aesthetics of the game really speak to me. Nice use of 'low resolution' pixel art. The background and foreground elements really add to the visuals.
Hey I love your game, it really looks like something out of '80s. Although I'm disappointed that the key art is some sort of simple 3d :( A drawing (or commission) of a cool art in the same style would be amazing!

@@LudiminalGames Yeah I heard bad things about their TileMap. On another subject seeing you go so far with placeholder art is a great motivation, I always read "make placeholder art" but...
