I see u went to waterkant ... u should have stopped there and have something to eat they have good food there. Like saoto soup, bread with salted fis (bakkeljouw) anything from SU. I know after that long walk I would have been tired atleast for a fernandes soft drin. I like ur video keep them coming richard
Fascinating place and one of the most unknown countries from a European perspective (except for people from the Netherlands I guess). Especially that they speak Dutch is crazy for me as a German speaking person (which means I could understand maybe 20%-40% of what is said). Would love to visit Paramaribo one day.
i am assuming you're shooting your videos with a Sony 4K video camera. What did you mount it on to get such stable videos? Man all of your videos i watched are great!
I was in Guyana last year, but I was making any videos at that time. I only took some pictures. Now I am making videos of most places that I go to. I just didn't go back to Guyana this year.
Nice videos, one thing Suriname isn't under the Kingdom of the Netherlands. Its an independent country. How did you find the culture and the food? Since we have so many Asian (javanese) influence in Suriname, some flavours at least should have been familiar to you? (am just making an assumption that you are (South Eastern Asian).
There are indeed many choices of food. Too many to try in my days there. There are also a lot of Brazilians there now. And there have always been lots of Indians and I seen many Chinese people, and of course I guess you would call the black people Caribes I think.
Of course, why wouldn't people from EU be welcomed? :S Suriname is very diverse and open to everyone. There are many Dutch and Belgians in Suriname, some French. All others are welcome too :)
Yes, plenty of Brazilians, most do work in the interior though.. No Caribes (are you using it as the indigenous word or French?) are...uhm.. all people from the Caribbean including all Surinamese (Suriname, Guyana, Fr Guina are Caribbean too) The other meaning of Caribes are the native Americans... Blacks refer to themselves either as black, creole or maroon. Black could be any of the latter 2 groups ,creole has some mixing in it (usually going back to slavery time), maroons are blacks living in the interior who fled the plantations and continued to live with their African traditions up to this day in the Amazon forest, pretty much isolated from all other groups but over last 2 decades they have been migrating to the coast.
Richard's World Traveler Caribs are Amerindians. “The blacks” can be divided into two groups. Creole and maroon. Like the name implies, Creole is a mix. A mix between European and African and live mainly in the city whereas maroons live more in the inside of the country and can be full blooded Africans. They also kept their African culture alive. I’m Indian myself and for me, my culture of heritage is already gone. I like Indian culture a lot, but the more I learn about it, the less I can relate to it. It makes me wonder, what part of me is still Indian? I think many others of my generation have this.
I think Suriname is one of the most mixed up place I have been to. But I like it very much. The official language is Dutch, but I have only met a few people that can't speak English. Look at my video where I am in the Palm tree park. They were using lots of English and Dutch. And there are a lot of Javanese people and Indians and Chinese, and African decent there. They all seemed to be able to speak English and Dutch. And speak their own specific language.
Akarin Siri hey, I’m from Suriname . We Surinamese people are bilingual. 80% of the tv programs are in English ,that goes for the technology as well. Our official language is Dutch , but it’s slightly different because Surinamese dutch has a lot of English words /slangs compared to Dutch from the Netherlands . You can see it as British English and American English ,we have the same thing going on with Dutch. It’s also known that more teenagers speak English with their friends . Suriname was also a colony of England before landing in the hands of The Netherlands , so the English language and the way of driving (left) has never really disappeared .
This is one of few places in South America that I feel, or know I will go back again for sure. I like this place a lot. I like how there is a big mix of cultures and people and they all seem to get along.
Hmmm.. Well I didn't stay there long enough to notice any. There area near my Airbnb was mostly blacks and looked poor. I was a little scared the first couple days. Because I don't look like anyone in the neighborhood. But I never had a problem. I'm glad I rented a car though, but I wouldn't want to always be walking in the neighborhood of my apartment I rented.
Country is very sparsely populated, there are hardly anyone seen on the roads. I as an Indian especially from Mumbai would not enjoy it there. Area (162821 Sq Kms) almost half that of Maharashtra (3,07,713 Sq. Kms) population 5,76,000, whereas Maharashtra population is over 112 Millions. Any one local station in Mumbai caters to more than perhaps double the population of Suriname.
Haha, the ending. You hooked up!

Do you have any video in Georgetown - Guyana ????
I was in Guyana last year, but I was making any videos at that time. I only took some pictures. Now I am making videos of most places that I go to. I just didn't go back to Guyana this year.

The city is so quiet. Not much going on there
True it’s boring as hell
suriname is now more under the kingdom of netherland sind 25 nov 1975. is a free and independence country.
Why are the signs in English? In your other video they were in Dutch... an English speaking area perhaps?

Some of your comments about Suriname are extremely racist! This video is great as long as it is watched on mute
