But I think it's something about a dream....I love this track, you're right, purely on sound, I can't even remember completely what it's about myself even though I watched the video. Sometimes with music it doesn't really matter even though lyrics are important to me.

Soyoon is the guitarist and singer of the band Se So Neon. It's an indie rock band that started in 2016. RM shared their music since they first started. She presented an award to them before and gushed about it, and they finally are working together for her first solo album without the group.
Song is inspired by shadow theater, more specifically a story of a young girl and boy creating various stories and fairytales together as shadow theater. Might explain why the lyrics are a bit murky in terms of meaning, it's the shadow/silhouette idea. Ummm, last thing i could say is that some scenes are references to old movies, esp the arrow part, but not sure which movie exactly.
Edit: Murky lyrics in my opinion. Someone else pointed out that lyrics might be in English for the same conceptual reason - some distance from what is actually happening, only a silhouette.

sprite is a folklore word. the easiest understanding of this word is spirit
there are different elemental spirits, so i guess you can take smoke spirit as something of that type. if to dive further into the symbolism of smoke in mythology and stuff or try to interpret it, smoke is the result of burning, it comes from fire and ascends to the sky until it's invisible and disappears. smoke is literally the release of the soul, the spirit itself, transition from visible and physical to spiritual realm
that's just one of the symbolism, there are many more as smoke also is an instrument for signals and communication, used in sacred rituals, funerals in different cultures, etc
i think the lyrics as well as mv have themes of running away and judgment vs acceptance, "don't run away", "i understand your body and soul so don't be ashamed"
especially this: "you should tell me the truth don't lie no lies, step close to what's fantasized, it's time to go off site, smoke sprite"
as stop being afraid of something that makes you conform to the norm, you are different and it's fine, face it, don't run away, even if it will get you low, be true to yourself, release the spirit you keep hiding inside
also smoke is something you can't catch, i think it aligns well with the run away topic
and in the mv she's running away. there are burns on her skin in the shape of the clothes she took off, like that period of her life when she belonged to something was hurting her, but now she's setting herself free
and there are also some kind of ritualistic scenes, reminds me of something between life and death, she keeps appearing and disappearing of the sacrificial table, and it brings me back to the smoke sprite and the release of the soul
soyoon said she has a lot of imagination and often feels a sense of dejavu while standing on the border between dream, fantasy, and reality and she tried to express this feeling

I love this girl’s voice. It’s very androgynous too. Some songs she kinda sounds like a male artist I know. Her album is AMAZING. Totally deserves a listen if you’re curious. She’s an excellent guitarist too. It’s like soulful funky rock or somethin, idk but I’m addicted lol

Me neither, I have no clue what the song is about or what she's trying to tell me. I think I can figure out RM's verse, he said he wrote his, however I'm just here for the music 😂 I heard she played the guitar for this too: She writes, sings, produces as well, I'm impressed & grateful RM introduced me to her. She's mutual friends with RM and J-Hope I believe (she was at Hobi's JITB release party). My only issue, just this only thing that bugs me about this song, is I wish they'd turn up Namjoon's voice on the very last verse. I can ever so faintly hear RM and Sooyoon harmonizing, but her voice is so piercingly sharp (the good kind, which *works* so well in this song) it overshadows RM's. The song is so stupidly catchy, but I think I would've gotten goosebumps if I heard them *both* clearly at the very end. Anyway, I don't go an hour a day without hearing this song in my ears. I am *actually* obsessed. It is so ridiculous at this point. I don't think you understand....I-a-m-o-b-s-e-s-s-e-d.
What I believe is, what BTS had broken through, especially Namjoon, is trying to unfold what's in general labeled as underground music to become above the ground in order to bring in more colors to the "stereotype" KPop industry. What a rebellions move!

NGL I thought the same thing but then I remembered sprite is also a type of elf or fairy. But when I looked it up to see a connection, I saw another meaning I had never heard of. “In computer graphics, a sprite is a two-dimensional image or animation that ... grass and brown puffs of smoke are integrated into the scene using sprites.” I feel like that’s it since she said “go off site”
Sprite is an elf/fairy-like creature. They've used different versions of sprites from mythology in the video, Joon plays a "wile" which lures men on highways to their death, hence the lyrics and the imagery of a car wreck.. So yoon also mentioned in an interview that she was inspired from animes where they disappear in a puff of smoke..
So happy to see you reacting to BTS music again! I miss it. This song is not really my cup of tea, but I'm happy RM is doing collabs with indie artists and drawing attention to them.

Soyoon is technically the lead guitarist for Se So Neon, (pronounced seh-so-nyon) but really she is the whole band. When the other members went into the military she just replaced them and kept going. Boss level.

I appreciate everyone's thoughts and interpretation of this video and her song. I needed that to try to understand. The fact that we are talking either about a Sprite fairy tale connection or a comment about a computer code translation lets me know how amazing she is in terms of lyrics content and how RM gravitates towards multi-layered interesting artists. I've listened to this song countless times at this point and most of it is in English but damn it I can't begin to tell you what it could possibly be about. If someone told me that they just strung random sentences and phrases together to make a banger, I'm in no position to tell them that they're wrong lol. It's kind of hilarious that I can understand the Korean tracks better but now I get an English track and I'm so lost. Weirdly enough, it doesn't bother me. The song is so good, that I'll happily play it dozens more times and sing along even though I don't know what I'm singing about.
And yes good catch, this is a perfect example of lgbt artists using more gender neutral or direct language where they're not telling you about a person, they're talking directly to a person. RM really needed to reign in that sex appeal he was exuding from that first line though. After Indigo, I thought he'd let us go back to our innocent, pure, ARMY ways. My interpretation: she is hurting herself with the arrow, she's running in the snow (real, check the making of O_O) after being burned and changed clothes. Just from her part I think she got hurt because of her who didn't know better, still hoping for someone to be back, but saying she can't make that person "wake up" and I still think she's referring to herself in a way.
Chronologically: she got burnt by love because of her own expectations, she changed clothes (hence the burn marks can be seen)/mind and run away. She's telling herself to stop running or she'll hurt herself even more, which she does.
RM part (yeah, I know, but still! XD): I find it a bit connected to Closer, and I think he means metaphorically "in my bed" like why is this person assaulting his thoughts before he goes to sleep. His mind (in bed) is his favorite place (all 7 recently released short videos about what they do before going to sleep, and yep, he's the one that'll spend a lot of time in bed before sleeping). I think he's (in witty way that leads to second interpretations) talking about a relationship in general "show me what you can do", "show me your level", "you don't need to be my person, just pike my interest enough" (although the "kill you" part hits a lot if you can think in French and yes, everything can be 150% read in a sexual way and there is no problem), "so I can kill you" as if saying show me all you got so I can forget you/kill you in my mind where you are stuck.
So whereas she gets hurt, he has a lot of arrows flying at him but none hits him, nothing interests him or hurts him (anymore?).
The end is just a trip and she being the sprite reappearing somewhere else in a different form.
About the crash: I read that in some mythology (norse?) sprites would appear on the road and make cars crash/burn. Indeed, before Namjoon comes into frame, seems like we are in a car and she appears briefly (your 3:30)

This is a very sexual song. Actual a lot of her tracks on her album is about relationship/sex/love. But of cause it can be interpreted in many ways even though RMs verse is quite explicit. It it something about giving in - sexual but also emotional. In the video we see her being sunburned ( burned by love - perhaps?) - she has been to close to the sun. We see her being shot by an arrow( Cupid perhaps)we also see RM being surrounded by arrows - so he is affected too. We see a car crash/ someone had crashed into someone. She is emerged in water ( her feelings perhaps ?). We see a lot of round holes ( guess what that could symbolise?). She sing something about not running away and " drown in you " "I understand your body and soul, I know how they work", "So don't be ashamed, It's not all over".

I always pull a stunt, ah, I apologize to your babe" and something about not tell a lie. So someone in the relationship is not true about their feelings or what they want. but the song conclude that they have to give in to what they feel or desire.
What I understand they have written this song together. They have worked on it for a long time, or at least spoken about working together for a long time. RM is a big fan of her and she of him. She is a more alternative rock artist. I think her sound has a 90's feeling to it. I think of Björk and Skunk Anansie when I hear this track. And by the way ...a sprite is a pixie or spirit and not a soft drink.
