About the part on downsizing the Mark V, I made it a bit more dramatic to keep things interesting. From what I found, Henry Ford II wanted to downsize the car, but Lincoln eventually decided to stick with its original size. So it wasn’t exactly like the designers told him off or anything like that. If anyone has more details on this, let me know!
The Mark V was a lovely, gaudy, over the top, in your face hunk of beauty that was, in my opinion, the most beautiful automobile ever produced. I owned a 1977 dove gray edition with a 460 engine and matching gray leather interior. It was like sitting in a yacht on a cloud.
That's what I have...'77 Cartier Designer Series - all Dove Grey with a dark red single pinstripe, with leather interior. My favorite car ever made. Although the color was used in other cars by Ford back then, it looked best on the Mark V. Just gorgeous. I grew up in the car's twin which my parents got new in April 1977, right down to all the same options. When I was born in July 1978 and driven home from the hospital as a newborn, Mom said I went home like a king. I was bonded with the car from that first ride.
@ Does it have the retractable sunroof? I can picture that Cartier Edition so clearly in my mind. When I was a kid during the 70’s I worked in the parts department for a local Ford dealer. One of the salesmen drove a Mark V, and was rumored to be a member of the mafia. Anyway, one day I was walking through the body shop and a group of men were clustered around his Mark. Apparently someone had taken a shot at him and left a nice, large bullet hole in the quarter panel. That was my first memory of the Mark V, and I decided then and there that someday, I would own one.
@@jeffschueler1182 It has most of the options, but mine does not have the moonroof. I didn't care about having it because my Dad's car didn't have it. Back when he bought his new, the salesman talked him out of ordering the moonroof claiming they leaked, which isn't true. The moonroofs in these cars are wonderful with how big they are, plus they sold them in different colored tinted glass to best match the car it was going in. So, in a grey car for instance, you could order the roof tint in silver if you wanted it to be similar. In the 1977 and 1978 model years the moonroof tint colors available were Silver, Gold, Brown, Light Jade, or Rose. In '79, I believe one of those colors was replaced with Blue.
Worked on these back in the day doing Collision Repair one of the easiest well-engineered bodies you can ever have to repair,, much easier than the really complicated Cadillacs...
During the 77-78 model yrs you could get the optional 460cid engine. You forgot to mention 2 other special Mark's, the 1978 Diamond Jubilee Mark V, and the 1979 Collectors Series Mark V. Also the small picture you showed of the Mark IV was actually a pic of a Mark III. Great story on the history of the Mark.
Great info! I tried to fit as much as I could into the 8-minute video, but sometimes you have to leave things out. Didn’t realize about the Mark III pic, but you're right, I missed that while editing. By the way, I’m glad you liked the video, and thanks so much for your comment! 🚗

I’ve never driven a Mark V, so I’m definitely jealous 😂 I’m sure it was incredible. Thanks for your comment!

Why does Black culture love Cadillacs?
What famous people had one?
President Trump had one!
