  • I’m making the Ljosalfar Blade Broken Back Viking Seax from the videogame Assassins Creed Valhalla. The blade was forged from an old lawnmower blade, the handle is handcarved and powercarved wood and the brass fittings were cast from old faucets.

Not only did you make a beautiful, impressive blade, but your video making style is refreshing for a bladesmith. So many make boring and quiet videos, or else go overboard with the energy. You hit the perfect balance. Earned a sub from me.

Very good build; in games the blades are mostly way too thick, so your profile and weight are good as well. your polish is also way better than in game/s, which that kinda half rusty look would've been considered unfinished by the people of their times (ig the reason why in media blades are depicted so poorly maintained and unfinished because of the state that the historical pieces tend to be in modern day discovery/preservation/museums, but historically they would've been generally fairly well maintained while in use).
Would be great if you do more of these less common a/o videogame weapons, very interesting.

@@NjordArtisan I would love to try smithing, I've learned some principles of metallurgy so would love to try my hand, learn more from practice; just not sure where/how to start, without my own equipment/workshop; so I would definitively try to forge some, like the Witcher designs, but adjusting some parameters so they function even better 🙌 (I do also practice historical swordsmanship and know about designs, so I think I could design some nice functional blades too)

This knife is simply stunning. It is difficult from me to think of you as a common blacksmith--since you don't have the stereotypical build--but also because you are more perfectionist than, I think, a common smithy would be. I might be wrong but if I am I blame Orson Scott Card's novel series about a blacksmith called The Tales of Alvin Maker.

  • @bradcoffey8984

    Fantastic work!
    Beautiful!
Not criticizing at all, just clarifying : "blood groove" in reality is a "fuller".
    It serves 3 purposes.
    1. It is used to increase a blades width.
    2. By utilizing the fuller to increase the width, less material is needed.
    3. The fuller increases the rigidity of the blade.
    Nice blade tho, for real!

Lawnmower blades haven’t been made out of high carbon steel for a long time, more modern blades (last couple decades) have been low end of medium carbon steel using alloying elements to make them tough without being hard. Reason why is the older high carbon blades had a possibility of breaking when damaged but now they want them to bend instead of breaking to prevent injuries. You can still use them to make a decent machete but not good material for knives like the old mower blades were on the really old mowers
